Gentleman Jim Thome
Hit #596 over the weekend.
From Peoria IL, about 45 miles from where I grew up.
Like to see nice guys have the kind of success Jim is having.

In a rare moment, I'm going to have to agree with you. Of all the brass baseballs in the flag court and along Eutaw St in Camden Yards, I would venture to say Thome's is the #1 visiting player out there.
I am a huge fan of his. Actually I had no idea he was still playing, what team?

In case no one knows what I am talking about...
Every home run hit onto Eutaw St and the flag court above the right field scoreboards at Camden Yards gets one of these..

Really. Is he a full time DH or just spot play. MoFo is as old as I am.AshevilleApp wrote:andy7171 wrote:In a rare moment, I'm going to have to agree with you. I thought he was the full time DH, but I see he's only played in 42 games this year. Might have been injured earlier in the season. He knocked the shit out of that ball yesterday.

I seriously hope he gets to hang on long enough to get 600.

Phillies fans still love the guy, even though he's gone. He's at 596 homers now -- lead pipe cinch to crack 600. A legitimate first-ballot HOFer.

Consumate professionals. Just went about their business.
Never even heard a peep about either one of them connected to PED's.
They don't churn out guys like that on an assembly line somewhere.

Thome, Griffey and The Big Hurt. Prolly the only three HR hitters of this generation to escape the steriod eyebrow.

I kinda liked Mo Vaughn and Albert Belle for that reason too.andy7171 wrote:Thome, Griffey and The Big Hurt. Prolly the only three HR hitters of this generation to escape the steriod eyebrow.
Sort of too bad Albert was a Douchebag Royale.
Mo Vaugh Trivia time:
What distinction in MLB history will he hold FOREVER?

I loathe Joey Belle! He made Peter Angelos the asshole douchebag owner he is today. Refusing to retire and collect the last FIVE years of his contract with a degenerative hip. Orioles haven't been the same since that fuck was on the team.OSBF wrote:I kinda liked Mo Vaughn and Albert Belle for that reason too.andy7171 wrote:Thome, Griffey and The Big Hurt. Yes he was on the DL quite a while this year...along with every single Twins starter it seems...AshevilleApp wrote:andy7171 wrote: Really. Is he a full time DH or just spot play. MoFo is as old as I am.

Thome was a GREAT asset to the Twins last year and will be again this year in the 2nd half of the season when the Twins win another AL Central title.

Re: Gentleman Jim Thome
Andy, Thome hit a HR at the game you gave me the tickets to last year. The Phils were up big at the time and Thome pinch hit a late homer and got a standing ovation from the Phillies fans. Little did we know his HR would start a huge comeback rally leading to a Twins victory.

Contreras and Lidge stunk up the 9th inning of that one. Stay on the DL, boys!93henfan wrote:Andy, Thome hit a HR at the game you gave me the tickets to last year. SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

All players, managers, and coaches are required to. Who are you referring to?SuperHornet wrote:Not everyone wears 42 on Robinson Day....93henfan wrote:

Since when? It's always been player choice. Most do. There have been some who have not, mostly because they feel it cheapens the honor to Robinson.93henfan wrote:All players, managers, and coaches are required to. Who are you referring to?SuperHornet wrote:

EDIT: According to Wiki, it became mandatory three years ago. Before that, it was optional. Players were debating how appropriate it is for EVERYONE to wear the number, especially given that every club was forced to retire it. That was what was sticking in my head.
