Bradley Fired - US Soccer

Amid concerns that progress had stalled during his tenure, Bob Bradley has been fired as coach of the U.S. men's national soccer team.

In a surprising announcement Thursday, U.S. Soccer President Sunil Gulati said Bradley had been relieved of his duties.

"We want to thank Bob Bradley for his service and dedication to U.S. Soccer during the past five years," Gulati said in a statement. "During his time as the head coach of our Men's National Team he led the team to a number of accomplishments, but we felt now was the right time for us to make a change. It is always hard to make these decisions, especially when it involves someone we respect as much as Bob. We wish him the best in his future endeavors."

I'm not unhappy about this but who will replace him? Is Klinsmann still living in Southern California? They were close to a deal with him a few years ago.

Let the Klinnsman rumors start up yet again! I hope we are going out to get someone and not promoting someone within. Going to be a very interesting WC cycle to say the least.

I'd be in favor of Claudio Reyna (runs the youth system) or Jason Kries (Real Salt Lake). Of course most the rumors will be about Klinsmann, but there's other good choices out there.

He's not that far removed from his playing days, would he really be ready to lead a team to the WC?

Didn't Argentina decline to renew Bianchi's contract? I always thought he was pretty good. He couldn't be worse than Bradley.

They're making the announcement tomorrow apparently - would be shocked if it was someone other than Klinsman.

I don’t know much about soccer, but didn’t Bradley pull the US squad out of irrelevance? Whoever the new coach is, hopefully he runs a system that uses the players he has to their strengths.

This news is about 2 years too late. But I'll take it! He had this knack of puting in the exact opposite roster/formation than what was required to win a match. If the team they were going up against was weak on the forward left side, he'd put in right footed player who couldn't cross the ball. If a team had one of the best attacks in the game, he'd put in his reserve players on defense. He's a fool.

I wasn't exactly thrilled with his stint at Bayern, but we'll see how this goes.

Not much time to get ready for the match against Mexico, should be interesting.

Jurgen Klinsmann officially unveiled as US national team coach

German icon meets expectations with optimism, says "work to do"

NEW YORK — A face already familiar in American soccer circles finally has received his close up, this time as the figurehead for the future of the sport in the United States.

Jurgen Klinsmann, the German soccer icon who was named as Bob Bradley's replacement last Friday, was officially introduced as the new head coach of the US national team during a press conference on Monday. The 1990 World Cup winner, who has lived in the US for more than a decade, said he is facing his new challenge with both pragmatic and optimistic expectations.

“Having lived here for the last 13 years and having known the US soccer environment for quite some time … there’s always been kind of this feeling around that maybe one day, I would get the opportunity to coach the US team,” Klinsmann said. “This is a big moment for me personally and for us as a family, and I’m really proud that I get that opportunity to be a part of the future of US Soccer.”

What would be the over/under on success for him?

1. Qualify for WC
2. Make it out of group stage
3. Win Round of 16
4. Win Quarterfinal
5. Win Semifinal
6. Win it all

Klinsmann will take his time deciding on coaching staff

New US boss says he'll keep Reyna, Ramos, will confer with MLS coaches

NEW YORK — With Jurgen Klinsmann now firmly in place as the new head coach of the US national team, one of the biggest questions left unanswered is how he’ll fill out the rest of his coaching staff.

Klinsmann, who was introduced to the media in his new post on Monday, was understandably vague about how he’ll fill his staff, insisting that he’ll likely take a democratic approach that could include coaches from MLS and elsewhere.

Current US assistant coaches Jesse Marsch, Lobos Cubic, Mike Sorber and Zak Abdel were not released upon Bob Bradley’s dismissal as head coach last week, but their status under the new coach is unclear.

“I won’t confirm a full-time staff over the next couple of months, because I want to see what’s out there,” Klinsmann said. “There are a lot of good, highly qualified coaches in the US that I might not know. So I need to talk to people, I need to understand what’s out there.”
