I did that in 2008 and what good did it do? It made me feel good at the time but I'm here to tell you that the joy dissapated quickly.

You would think that in a country of over 300 million people there would be at least a few people who could do better than what we have now in the White House and Congress. But then again why would any sane normal person put up with the process. The media anal exam. Loss of personal life. Negative campaigns. Being personally insulted by your opponents. Having to explain why you got a "C" in Psychology 201 in your sophomore year or why you peed on the Deans lawn in your junior year. Only a person with an ego the size of Jupiter would be willing to try and over the years I think we have had quite enough of that.

I say that if they throw their hat in the ring, they are disqualified.

We all know people who are smart, thoughtful, even-tempered, honest and whatever other qualities you think would be good. But how many of them would submit themselves to the process? And who could blame them?

The way the candidates are shaping up as of now, I’ll be voting 3rd party…which is a defacto vote for Obama. But I live in CA so it doesn’t matter who I vote for in the POTUS race.

Well it's decided then...we should start our own political group: The Championship Party. Our motto can be:

"Where votes are earned, not given."

Hey, we've got members in almost every part of the country, right? Think about it... :coffee:

If there was 3rd party candidate that had:
-served in the military
-had business experience
-had executive leadership experience
-had held elective office before

All the current R POTUS candidates have 2-3 of those 4. (Which is more than Obama had coming into office, which was one). The only one who has all 4- Ron Paul. I may disagree with him on some issues, but the man is consistent. His website claims:

"He has never voted to raise taxes.
He has never voted for an unbalanced budget.
He has never voted for a federal restriction on gun ownership.
He has never voted to raise congressional pay.
He has never taken a government-paid junket.
He has never voted to increase the power of the executive branch.

He voted against the Patriot Act.
He voted against regulating the Internet.
He voted against the Iraq war.

He does not participate in the lucrative congressional pension program.
He returns a portion of his annual congressional office budget to the U.S. treasury every year.

Congressman Paul introduces numerous pieces of substantive legislation each year, probably more than any single member of Congress."

Love the "has never voted for an unbalanced budget" considering the current debt ceiling and balanced budget debate. He also voted against Boehner's bill yesterday, saying he would not vote for any legislation that raised the debt ceiling. I'd be willing to consider him if he ran 3rd party, depending on who the Repub nominee was.

True, but there are too many dyed in the wool Dems and Republicans - unfortunately, a third party vote is effectively a wasted vote IMO. Until US voters get really tired of more of the same they'll continue down partisan lines for more of the same. A moderate candidate, even if elected, would very quickly fall prey to the DC partisan tactical machine in short order. Unfortunately, it's how American politics are done. :twocents:

You could roll every incumbent every election and nothing will change until you can kick out the fucking lobbyists and overturn the bullshit SCOTUS ruling from last year that allows corporations to buy whatever they need done.

Of course, I'm assuming you're referring to people taking back the government, right?

Respectfully, I disagree....a vote for either of the two major candidates is a waste as they are already going to get more than enough votes from the thronging masses of sheeple who get their political ideas off of a bumper sticker. If you really like a candidate from the two major parties, then by all means, vote for them. But if you're voting for a "winner" you don't agree with, then you're merely supporting the current dysfuntional system that has brought us to our current state...
