Essentially the same thing, the govt being responsible for peoples health care.

If you take issue with Medicare from the smaller govt position, it isn't the govt's job to be in the health care biz, you have to take the same position with the VA.

Except for the lower sunk costs with Medicare as Medicare doesn't actually employ the doctors and support staff providing the care, or own/maintain the facilities.

Hey, menestrualguy:

a) you don't HAVE to do anything.
b) it's part of the contract that's signed
c) they aren't even CLOSE to the same thing
d) you might want to retake that Mensa test.

Just give gramps a "voucher"

If he needs his ass scoped or the pus squeezed out of something AND Dick and Jane taxpayer for whatever reason feel obligated to pay for it, let him go down to the local hospital on the corner and present his little voucher.

OR, gramps can just get a fukin job and pay for his own goddamned healthcare like everybody else.

Our elderly population "earned" it too. They paid into the Medicare and SS systems their entire working lives with a promise that those benefits would be there for them. "earned" just like a vet "earned" his VA.

My dad was never in the military, he was exempt because he was the sole earner for the family and was a farmer. He worked winters in an electronics factory assembling communications eqipment and bomb detonaters and in a canning plant putting canned tomatoes into MRE's during Korea and the early stages of Vietnam. While no question not being as dangerous or life threatening on an hourly basis like front line combat, his contribution was no less significant. One study i have seen reports it took at least 5 civilian workers back home to meet the needs of a single deployed combat soldier.

Where's his VA benefit? He worked hard to support the war effort and to protect America's freedom.

Our elderly certainly have "earned" their benefits. If you want to change the system moving forward, by all means do so, but the benefit promised those already in the system can not be taken away from them, they have "earned" them.

Put down the shovel. You're about to hit bedrock.
Better yet, give gramps a tax credit to pay for his medical care. There are 3 truths in American Government, and this would agree with all 3:

1) Socialized Medicine is ALWAYS a bad thing

2)The govt has no business being involved in or providing for the healthcare of individuals

3) Whatever the problen, Tax cuts/credits are always the answer

That wasn't what you proposed. Yesterday you were opposed to the goverment paying for veteran's benefits. How is giving them a voucher or tax break not paying for it? You are now trying to spin this a different way.

What's scary is I think you really believe the shit that comes out of your mouth and you aren't pulling a D1B and just stirring the pot.

I still think we need to eliminate all the USDA and NRCS and the jobs that go with them.

So then, if the VA is a great system, supported in both theory AND practice by conservatives.....................

Lets adopt the same model as our National Health Care System.

Get the vets to start this off, and the teabaggers will jump on board because they don't want to piss off the vets.

Before long, we'll have a national movement led by conservatives leading to a tax supported network of Govt owned and managed hospitals and clinics staffed by govt employed docs nurses and support staff.

Way to go right wingers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

GREAT IDEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The answer to all our healthcare problems has been right here in front of us the whole time.

And its a solution heartily endorsed by the right.

Using Tax dollars to support a vast network of govt health care providers.

This is even better than ObamaCare proposed.
