Both of those CAA teams were in the bottom 30% in sacks (Delaware would have been 9th. in the Big Sky). Just because they have "CAA" on their jerseys doesn't mean they're good at everything. ;)

And I dispute that Mitchell played well against NDSU. He did OK at the end, but still had a low 96.1 efficiency rating for the game.

Mitchell is a solid QB, but he has to shore up a lot of things to be a great one.
Agree about BLM. I was just relaying what Ive read ad nauseum about CAA defenses and MVFC NFL franchises.

Wildcat Ryan's picks

MSU- As long as thier QB stays healthy
EWU- Good enough to win the BSC again, but the 7 road games will wear this team down down the stretch.
WSU- The Wildcats have depth at every position, Big offensive line, QB Mike Hoke will suprise
UM- Untested QB, but thier defense will win them games
CSUS- Will be a dangerous team, but rough first half of schedule does them in.
PSU- Probably gonna lead the conf in total offense., but no defense.
NAU- Too much lost to graduation, but NAU is always tough
ISU- The Bengals will have a new attitude this year, and will get better, but not till next year.
UNC- New coach, and many defensive and offensive ? marks

MSU, EWU and WSU go to the playoffs

That's the worst poll I have seen and you're picking UNC low because I made you cry about the past basketball season. There's no way UNC is rebuilding this year and I don't think Weber is good enough to finish 3rd.

It's called an opinion, Im picking Weber 3rd cause I've seen the team in the scrimmages and seen the talent and the depth this team will possess, I know what Mike Hoke is capable of, and Weber will have the best o-line and a veteran defense and a horde of talented running backs at thier disposal. Im picking UNC low because I see nothing coming out of Greeley, they have untested rb's a new head coach, crappy offensive line, etc. Its either 9th or 8th for the Bears this year take your pick.

Quit whining, thats what losers do.

A few things.

A. We were bad at o-line last year because we had 4 starters out with injury last year and 3 of them are back healthy.
B. John Burnley is our starting running back and he isn't unproven. He had to sit out last year because of grades. Check his '09 numbers out.
C. A new head coach doesn't mean we will take a step back. There are plenty of examples of college coaches who come in right away and do well. I like what Montana's coach said in the coaches teleconference. UNC has talent and it's a matter of putting the pieces together.
D. You mentioned you liked what you saw from your scrimmage. Well, you can't take too much away from scrimmages. You're defensive line might be good, but what if they guys up front aren't blocking well? You like your receivers? What if your DB's are bad? etc,

I never said Weber had a good d-line, I said Weber had the best O-line, and a veteran defense, 9 of the 11 defensive starters to last years squad are returning as well as Ryan The Beast Eastman. I also never said anything about receivers, I did mention running backs though. A good o-line gives the qb plenty of time in the pocket to hit his receivers, (and unlike Higgins, Hoke will run) and opens big holes for the running backs(weber has quite a few really good running backs). I guess what Im saying is Weber's O-line will make Weber good, baring injury.

UNC went 3-8 last season, only beating a D II team, a team that went 1-10, and a team that went 2-9. They lost half their starters, had no one on the preseason all-conference team, and have a new head coach who comes in with a career 8-12 record. It should be no surprise that most people would pick UNC to finish 8th or 9th.

Look its true that a coach can do wonders for a team, look what Rahe did for Weber in his first season. I think coach Collins was a good hire, I didnt see a lot from what he did at Alcorn, but thats a different team. Collins will do wonders for UNC, just not this year.

I didnt pick UNC last because I "hate" them or had an argument with a Bears fan, I picked them last because I think ISU, NAU and PSU will be better than them, simple as that. And Im not the only one who picked them last either. I picked Weber high because I believe they will be better than Montana and Sac, but thats just my opinion, the team has to prove that. You should not put so much stock in preseason predictions, they are just opinions and most of the time they never happen the way they are predicted to happen (see 2008 and 2010).

I predict Weber goes 6-5 overall, 5-3 in conference. That wouldn't be good enough to make the playoffs.

Collins did go 8-12 but you don't know the situation he was in at Alcorn. It was a miracle he won 1 game. That was a bad situation he was in. Oh well, pre-season picks aren't anything. Obviously every team will have to prove it on the field.

You're Griz masters wont be upset if you say McGhee is the best player in the conference right now. Griz nation really needs to let you off the leash every once in a while. I'll have a talk with them, maybe they'll let you go to a Hornet game or two this season. :shake:

Looking at it like that, it's kinda amazing we won 7 games last year especially with all the injures we had!!

Isn't Weber's QB "untested" too? Yet somehow he will "surprise" and Weber makes the playoffs. If Montana doesn't make the playoffs it's only because they scheduled themselves out by having an FBS and a D-II both on the schedule.

No, Mike Hoke played in every game last year, mostly as a running QB, he has been around for a while and knows the system. I have seen him throw, and he is accurate. He took over at MSU when Higgins went down, and led Weber to a come from behind victory at NAU. Hoke has played. The reason I said he would suprise, is because a lot of people dont know what he is capable of. Us Weber fans do.

Hoke's 2010 #'s: 27 rushes, 104 net yards, 1 TD, 23-36 passing, 2 TD, 9 games played
Jordan Johnson 2010: 6 rushes, 14 net yards, 0 TD, 15-20 passing, 1 TD, 6 games played.

Pretty much this.

It's funny how people assume that losing Selle and Roper will just decimate us. Roper never really was that great to begin with, and Selle, while still being awesome in 2009, just wasn't the same player last year. Neither could run this offense worth a damn, not to mention Roper's obvious leadership/teamwork issues.

Kemp has surprised the shit out of me, from what I've seen. He or JJ will be better running Pflu's offense than Roper or Selle ever were or could hope to be.

They're both (all) unproven, but I fail to see how replacing two QBs that were worthless in a system, even if they were seniors, with QBs in the same system that was basically designed for them will be a weakness. In fact, if Kemp plays in live games like he has been in practice the last few days, not only will he be the starter, but there's no doubt in my mind we'll be a favorite for the BSC title again this year.

Reynolds I'll give you. None of our RBs will have the kind of single-season numbers he put up in 2008 and 2009.

I agree that Roper was a good QB that just wasn't cut out to run Montana's new offense. But I'll disagree with you on Roper. He was recruited to Oregon, which runs basically the same offense that Pflu's trying to implement at UM. Roper just wasn't that great.

That said, I think either Johnson or Kemp will run the offense better than Roper or Selle could. :twocents:

No, Mike Hoke played in every game last year, mostly as a running QB, but I have seen him throw, and he is accurate. He took over at MSU when Higgins went down, and led Weber to a come from behind victory at NAU. Hoke has played. The reason I said he would suprise, is because a lot of people dont know what he is capable of. Us Weber fans do.

Which is wy Weber makes it and UM doesnt :thumb:
Your line between "untested" and "tested" is pretty damned thin....

Hoke's 2010 #'s: 27 rushes, 104 net yards, 1 TD, 23-36 passing, 2 TD, 9 games played
Jordan Johnson 2010: 6 rushes, 14 net yards, 0 TD, 15-20 passing, 1 TD, 6 games played.

Yep, Hokes, a regular John Elway.... 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-)
While Hoke doesn't have a ton of experience, he does have some, and he is a Junior. And in the limited time he played last year he was very productive. He actually lead the Sky in passing efficiency with a 162.7 efficiency rating. Also, taking snaps behind a solid veteran line will help. Hoke can run much better than Cam Higgins, and will protect the ball much better (that will be easy to do, as Higgins was a turnover machine). The biggest question mark is not with Hoke but with his targets. Weber graduated their top two receivers.

2010 Big Sky Pass Efficiency
1. Mike Hoke-WSU 162.7
2. Denarius McGhee-MSU 153.8
3. Jeff Fleming-SAC 147.4
4. Bo Mitchell-EWU 135.8
5. Justin Roper-UM 133.1
6. Dylan Orms-NC 132.7
7. Michael Herrick-NAU 130.3
8. Cameron Higgins-WSU 124.9
9. Chase Stangel-NAU 112.4
10. Russel Hill-ISU 99.4
