Re: Poll: Week 1, Big Sky's shot for FBS win
the best chance of any big sky beating any fbs is future member suu at unlv sep 24. suu should get a lot of fans. it is the closest school to suu and well unlv is joke in fbs and suu is supposed to be really good this year and has a payton candidate.
unlv had maybe its worst season in 10 years last yr. they had just 2 wins beating 2 of the worst teams in the nation in wyo and new mex. well, we dont want to take any credit away from san jose st at the nation's worst team.

I went with WSU mainly because I think Wyoming is bad...but I don't know much about Wyoming. I'll be rooting for all the BSC teams in these FBS match ups.

Same day MSU beat Colorado, Portland State beat New Mexico. That is the last win for the BSC over the FBS.weberwildcat wrote:Montana St @ Utah (50 votes in preseason AP Poll)

If I remember correctly, our game was at night and the Bobcats got their win during the day. Technically, our game was the last win then.
I don't see any wins out of that bunch. I took WSU over Wyoming, but I don't think the Wildcats will actually do it (maybe with last year's team). Really, I'd be surprised at anyone staying within 2 touchdowns.

Re: Poll: Week 1, Big Sky's shot for FBS win
Until I started hearing about all the OSU injuries, I had EWU pegged for the best shot. I still think that will be an outstanding pick. Weber over Wyo is also a great pick. I do think Montana has a shot at beating TN, but not as good as those other three. NAU has a chance, too. About the only games where I would consider a FBS winner a foregone conclusion are MSU and ISU. There's NO way ISU beats Paul....

As much as I'd like to say Montana, it probably won't happen.
I think EWU has the best shot.

I agree, though I doubt any will happen. A playoff-caliber team should beat Wyoming, but Weber isn't one of those teams.uofmman1122 wrote:As much as I'd like to say Montana, it probably won't happen.

UW's Polk -- just announced -- may miss or 1 or 2 games.
That'll drop the line, anyway.

Five games against the Pac-12. We cannot fathom the depth that they have. For as good as Montana State was last year and how bad Washington State was, depth was what wore down the Bobcats in that game. The last time the Big Sky beat the Pac-10 was 1996 when Montana beat Oregon State (Colorado was in the Big 12 in 2006 when MSU beat them). That year, that was a terrible Oregon State team going up against a great Montana team. In those five games against the Pac-12, close would be good, but still not a "W". A win? Not gonna happen.

The closest we have played a Pac-10 team was back in 2000 when we took Fiesta Bowl Champions Oregon State down to the wire, sadly losing by two points. But we did beat Boise State that year, 41-23.
I hate having to go against the Eags, but I honestly think WSU has the best shot @ Wyoming. And unfortunately, with as much as WSU has to prove, it's a very outside shot.

Re: Poll: Week 1, Big Sky's shot for FBS win
While I don't think they will win, look for MSU to give Utah a good fight. From what I've seen and heard out of their camp, Utah could be down a bit this year. They don't have much of a backfield, and the QB and OLine are suspect. If DM and the Bobcat offense can move the ball in that game, MSU could have a chance to steal one at the end.

I'll take UNLV in a walk in this game............................BTW, Hauck just got a 2 year extension. Must be doing something right.weberwildcat wrote:the best chance of any big sky beating any fbs is future member suu at unlv sep 24. suu should get a lot of fans. it is the closest school to suu and well unlv is joke in fbs and suu is supposed to be really good this year and has a payton candidate.

As much as I'd like to pick the Eagles, I agree with what you say. Wyoming isn't much better than a mid-pack Big Sky team, although they have shown they ability to play well at times. Weber over Wyoming is the logical choice.SDHornet wrote:I went with WSU mainly because I think Wyoming is bad...but I don't know much about Wyoming. Re: Poll: Week 1, Big Sky's shot for FBS win
Idaho State isn't going to beat Washington State... but Kramer is a much better coach then Wulff. It ain't even close.SuperHornet wrote:Until I started hearing about all the OSU injuries, I had EWU pegged for the best shot. I still think that will be an outstanding pick. I can tell you a lot of guys I know smiled with shocked amusement when WSU hired Wulff from Eastern. They did the Eagles a favor in getting rid of Wulff. I'm not saying Wulff was the worst of the worst, but he certainly was no better than ordinary, and he has a history of being very difficult to work with.
Interestingly, Beau Baldwin was not Eastern's first choice to replace Wulff when he left. Eastern had chosen Jim McElwain (offensive coordinator at Alabama and EWU grad) for the position but couldn't come to terms on compensation.

If Polk doesn't play against us, then I think it's hard to pick against EWU being the best shot. Polk takes away a big dynamic for UW. Sure, they have depth and good RBs still, but Polk is a beast. I love our chances.

While I disagree with Sil over the Sac-OSU and (especially) EWU-UW games, he has the Weber game dead on unless Weber wins, which is definitely possible. I'd like to know where the relative noob before Sil gets the idea that Wyo will win by three scores.
