A product of Yale University, Lavarnway said his family, which is from the Los Angeles area, won't be able to make it for his debut. He said he's received numerous texts from old friends, including Florida's Brett Hayes, his offseason workout mate, on the approach he should take in the big leagues.

"Basically they tell me it's the same game and just keep doing what got you here," he said.

It's a Yale baseball thread. Took care of your PR issue on this board here. Look above.

Thanks for the info, Joe.

I remember Ken McKenzie was on the original New York Mets powerhouse team (40-120) in 1962 and was the only pitcher with a winning record.

It wasn't 1-0, by the way.

Who gets your nod as best Yalie ever in the bigs? It looks like Ron Darling, to me.

I agree about Darling, although I think he underachieved relative to his talent. Then again, so did the rest of the '85-'88 Mets.

I never knew that Eddie Collins Jr, son of the Hall of Famer (and clean member of the Black Sox) went to Yale.

Darling had a number of great years, but then the wheels seem to come off all of a sudden.
