That seems about right. ODU is definitely not a small school. I think we have 115,000 alumni, with 70,000 in VA.

UNI's enrollment is right about 13K....in a much less populated area....and an area that doesn't understand what the FCS is. Iowa fans (not all but most) honestly believe UNI is D2 in everything except men's and women's basketball, wrestling, track and field, and volleyball.

But I can't imagine there's that much more to do in Iowa than Montana on the weekends, in that situation. What is it about Montanans that hop on the bandwagon?

University of Iowa (who was ranked the #4 party school in the nation) is 90 miles down the road. Their stadium seats 70,585 and they sell it out every week, plus those that tailgate only and then go to a bar/house party to watch the game...there are probably 130kish people in Iowa city every weekend for a football game.

Iowa State probably had 50-55K in Ames (2 hours from CF) every weekend.

The fan base in Iowa is split
90% Iowa
8% Iowa State
1.5% UNI (sadly of that 1.5% 98% are also Hawk fans)
.5% Drake (about 100% are also Hawk or Clone fans)

To answer your question, the renovation of the east side of JMU's stadium (Phase III) has not been approved by the board. One of two events gets phase III approved; 27,400 tickets consistently sold every game with additional demand to boot or a FBS offer/accept.

As mentioned on this board numerous times, FCS crowd averages cap out at 25,000 give or take so that means Bridgeforth stays as is unless JMU finds a suitable FBS home (?who knows what will happen with that?)

Phase three would take capacity to 40,000ish...the stadium is there and waiting, no chop job plans necessary.

Steep stadium = good sightlines... and better noise as the fans are right on top of the other team.

The steeper the stadium, the better, imo.

Michigan Stadium is a great example of a stadium built "out" instead of "up."

Bingo. I attended the 95 Rose Bowl (Penn State destroying Oregon) and I felt like the game was going on "over there". That place is just bland and not a good place to watch a game. It does look great for TV though with the mountains, Palm trees, and mansions on the surrounding hills.

From someone who has been to multiple game in Bozeman, they are way to redneck. Total turds.

Yes, I know this is an all inclusive, "I love you brother" board, but I have NEVER, EVER been treated well in Bozeman for a game.

I talk big **** on this board, but am really an easy going person. **** no. Bozeman is horrible for attending fans.

Its only bad for you if your a griz fan, same thing happens to Cat fans in Missoula.

Last time I attended a game in Bozeman I came out of a restaurant to find a broken beer bottle on my windshield, and I am as far from a Griz fan as you can get.

I couldn't even tell you what the nearest city of any size is... maybe Spokane? Boise? There isn't much there. You head East on I-90 out of Seattle and you hit Spokane, Couer d' Alene, Missoula, Butte, and then Bozeman. It's still a long way from Billings.

Big Sky is two vicious mountains. Great terrain to be had everywhere and seldom much of a crowd. I've never understood wqhy they don't just merge with Moonlight Basin. It would make the whole of the resort a lot bigger and better. When Skinet rates resorts, it would instantly climb from the 20s into the top 10. At the very least, it would rival Jackson Hole is every way possible.

Both Big Sky and Moonlight have been in bankruptcy off and on. You can buy a pass for both for a day or for the year, but it is not cheap. And like I said, MSU stadium is looking great, but I don't think anyone in Bozeman thinks it is the best in the state much less in the FCS.
