Pac Ten/twelve Team Selling Tickets On Groupon
Re: Pac Ten/twelve Team Selling Tickets On Groupon
Eastern has some of the same problems, but instead of "lack of being consistently decent" they deal with the old FCS "perceived as inferior." Strangely, a lot of people think Cheney is farther than it is... Cheney is a shorter drive than the affluent communities in North Spokane are from downtown.
And then there is the super-obvious... Eastern is WAY behind the times in terms of having a level-appropriate stadium. Eastern has twice screwed the pooch when it comes to finishing their stadium upgrade. Once, they lost university funding due to a budget cut and the second time they had a falling out with a mjor donor over naming rights. The actually named the stadium "Roos Field" for half the money that they were comitted from another donor and when they wouldn't rename it a few years earlier.
Roos Field seats close to 12,000 with all the temp seats, but it really only seats about 7,000 well. So when a lot of people come to check out a game, they get stuck in terrible aluminum seats with an even worse view. It doesn't do much to encourage regular attendance even with a quality on-field product.

I've disagreed with you in the past concerning the importance of stadium upgrades, but you're now winning me over

With the renovations that were done in 2004, the permanent seating at Roos is 8500. 11k with the crap bleachers for the Governor's Cup. The thing is, it wouldn't take much to vastly improve the stadium.....what's there is decent and not too far removed from what Nevada's was like when they were in the Big Sky. maybe they should look into ringing up whoever it was they pissed off the first time.
Re: Pac Ten/twelve Team Selling Tickets On Groupon
I don't think the Groupon thing is a big deal, we've been absolutely terrible the past 3 seasons and understandably fan support is at an all-time low (and as AZ and others mentioned, attendance in Pullman wasn't even great in the early 2000s). How most people in Pac-12 country perceive it, the game we're playing is against a "Division-II" school, and a bad one at that. It's tough to convince people to drive from Spokane or Seattle, pay full ticket price, likely have to say the night in Lewiston, Moscow or Spokane (for the Seattle folks) just to watch us roll a terrible Big Sky team. Others have touched upon it in this thread but the lack of hotels in Pullman, 2 lane highway to get there, geographic isolation and just overall bad football has made it tough to attract people down. We should be a much improved football team this year and any way the school can get more people to come on down, the better.

Why is something to do with the Pac 12 on the FCS discussion page?

We get it, Palouse fans are so bad they don't know Division 2 from FCS.

We have tons of fans who drive from the High Line every game. and by every game I mean every game, even during crappy winter storms.Landshark wrote:WSU had three consecutive top 10 seasons a decade ago and they still had attendance issues. Not a convincing excuse. Face it, their fans suck if you need to give them a deal on Groupon to show up.

Honestly, I don't know why you guys don't draw better. You've consistently had a winner the past 10 years. I believe UNC will do well in numbers once we start winning. Less than 80 miles from Pullman is a metropolitan area of over 500,000 population, with a large number of WSU grads...if they were decent/good, they'd fill Martin Stadium.

Answer is simple, WSU and UM should just switch places in their respective divisions/conferences.

Pullman and Spokane are linked via a two lane road, that becomes super congested even with meager football attendance. 1 hour, 31 minute drive according to Rand McNally, and that's not game day.

Re: Pac Ten Team Selling Tickets On Groupon
Over 6500 in season tickets last year but those numbers were bolstered a little by the hype of the red turf and also by some Montana fans I believe. It won't be better than that this year with as few home games as we have, but we will draw better on the whole. There's been more people out to the scrimmages than ever before. Thing about the Spokane area is that as the weather goes south, so do the fans. First three home games last year were close to 12k, 7600, and 7200, which are decent draws for us. After that, it started going downhill as the weather got colder and particularly bad the first two games of the playoffs and school was out. Cheney's pretty bare with no students around.BigSkyBears wrote:Honestly, I don't know why you guys don't draw better. You've consistently had a winner the past 10 years. And, as was previously mentioned, we compete with two in-state Pac-12 schools, one of which is 90 miles away. I guess you could also throw Idaho in the mix as well, even though they draw like shit as well.
