I can't decide which pick is more retarded, UNC to score 40 on JMU or ODU to only beat Cambell by 4etiger1 wrote:Delaware @ Navy - Navy 34-27

And as much as that sounds like its a total biased opinion, its not. Just look at the two scores from the last two years.BDKJMU wrote:I agree- anyone who thinks ODU is only going to be Cambell by 4 is totally clueless in regards to the 2 teams....ODUalum11 wrote:

'10 - ODU 44-13
However, it is possible that Campbell could be starting a SMU transfer at QB.

At least VT will play JMU (4 meetings since 91'), unlike those elitist snob pussies in C'ville. Bourne has called them a # of times to schedule a game and they refuse. UVGay loses to JMU in 82' and after their already scheduled 83' game, refuse to schedule JMU in the next 28 years and counting, while they continue to play W&M and UR. VT loses to JMU, and the following week are talking about another meeting in 2017:jmufan wrote:At least I'm not a dumb VT fan...ugh...and there is nothing wrong with going the CAA homer route. WM beat UVA in the 80's as well and somehow got on the schedule in 95, 09 and this year. Whatever the reason, I doubt its becasue you beat them 20 some years ago. I read on the JMU board that JMU has turned down offers to play UVA becasue the guarantee wasn't high enough relative to what JMU could get elsewhere.

Re: Colonial Athletic Association Picks for Week #1
Navy 28 Delaware 24: Like to say that UD will pull this one out but between not knowing how UD's defensive backfield will fair against an option attack and how UD's new QB will be able to take the focus off of AP and the strong OL, I see Navy squeaking past what should be a very good Hens team this year.
UNC 21 JMU 6: While UNC has it's troubles and JMU's defensive will be the best in the CAA this year, I don't have any confidence that JMU has solved their offensive woes from last year. OL is still patchworked in too many places and I don't think Thorpe has the arm to open things up.
Maine 24 Bryant 21: Maine's always an enigma these days. Who really knows what Cosgrove has up in Orono and even if they were good I'm sure he'd find a way to muck it up.
UMass 28 Holy Cross 10: UMass's farewell to FCS tour kicks off in fine fashion, although I think there'll be plenty of stumbles ahead.
Toledo 21 UNH 30: I really like Decker as a QB so I don't think UNH will miss much of a beat success-wise. They won't have the defense they had last year but McConnell has consistently found ways to win with changing parts. Besides, UNH does well against FBS teams.
ODU 45 Campbell 14: If I said I knew anything about this game I'd be lying.
Duke 17 Richmond 14: Tough to tell how the coach dismissal will impact Richmond, but it can't be a good thing. Besides, we're now another year further away from Clawson's recruiting and I fear that London wasn't in the same class in that regard.
Towson 24 Morgan St 17: A Towson W - savor it, it may not happen again for awhile.
Temple 30 nova 7: nova's starting too many true and redshirt freshmen, on both sides of the ball. Even when they struck gold with that approach back in '07 they still missed the playoffs. I'm not convinced they have another class like they had back then and I think they plummet this year.
UVA 31 W&M 35: W&M is always very competitive in its FBS games, even though they rarely win them. Last time they won an FBS game, though, was in Charlottesville. I think they pull this one out again against a blah UVA team.
UNC 21 JMU 6: While UNC has it's troubles and JMU's defensive will be the best in the CAA this year, I don't have any confidence that JMU has solved their offensive woes from last year. OL is still patchworked in too many places and I don't think Thorpe has the arm to open things up.

W&M beat UVA in '09 didn't they? I almost never buy that explanation that a team doesn't play another one because of a loss suffered in the past since it's rarely true. Don't know why UVA doesn't play JMU but it's highly unlikely to have anything to do with a result back in 1982.BDKJMU wrote:At least VT will play JMU (4 meetings since 91'), unlike those elitist snob pussies in C'ville. There isn't much to know about this game other than that ODU is 2-0 against the Fighting Camels (28-17 in '09, 44-13 in '10) and the only real interesting storyline is that CU will be starting a transfer QB from SMU.GannonFan wrote:ODU 45 Campbell 14: If I said I knew anything about this game I'd be lying.
In other words, I think your predicted score is right. I say ODU puts AT LEAST 40 on the Camels, possibly even 50.

Re: Colonial Athletic Association Picks for Week #1
Thur Night
UNH @ Toledo: by a TD or less. I know some people are apt to see UNH vs “MAC” and ASSume this is the CAA’s best chance for a I-A win. However, Toledo from the MAC preseason forecasts I’ve seen, is picked to win the MAC West division. They ain’t Ball State (picked next to last and whom UNH beat 2 years ago). Last season UNH returned only 11 starters and slipped from 9-2/6-2 in 09’ to 7-4/5-3. This season they return only 10 starters, must break in a new starting QB to replace Toman (albeit a 5th year senior Decker with some experience). However, McDonnell is IMHO the best coach in the CAA, and they have 2 AA/Butkus candidates to anchor their defense, and I think they at least match last year’s 7-4/5-3, maybe even 8-3/6-2, and take their nation’s best streak of 7 straight playoff appearances to 8. But I think this will be one of those losses.
Villanova @ Temple by 2-3 TDs. 3rd Year of the “Mayor’s Cup”. Nova loses 13 of 22 starters, more than anyone else in the CAA, the majority of whom received All CAA honors, and several of whom received AA honors. Lose 20 some seniors from last year’s team. They lose the best player from last yr in I-AA, consensus AA and 1st player from I-AA drafted, 2nd round pick Ben Ijalana. Also loses Szcur. Also lose Whitney at QB, who they are replacing with a redshirt freshman. Lost their starting RT in the spring due to a ACL tear out for the year. Probably lost more talent than any other team in the nation. May have signed the best recruiting class in all of I-AA when they were selling the “we’re going to the Big East for football”, but those guys won’t be difference makers this year. Nova HC Andy Talley said in my local paper (I live about 15 miles from Nova) Nova will likely only be starting 3 seniors. A lot of those true freshman will be playing. Nova’s 3 year playoff streak will come to an end, but its only going to take a 1 yr hiatus.
Temple on the other hand, returns a majority of their starters from last season’s 8-4 team, and from every MAC preview I’ve seen, is picked to finish 1st, 2nd, or 3rd in the 7 team East Division of the MAC.
I’m only about 10 miles from the LINC, and if work doesn’t interfere like it did last yr, I might even go to this game like I did in 09’
UMass @ Holy Cross: UMass by 2-3 TDs. Thur night game televised on CBS Sports Network. Don’t know anything about Holy Cross, but do know that UMass will bring more size and speed to the table than any Patriot League team, and will have one of the top defenses in the CAA. UMass sometimes plays poorly on the road, but this isn’t much of a road game for them- its an instate rival.
Saturday
UD @ Navy by a TD or less.
Televised on CBS Sports Network. After the opening series of last season’s GSU @ UD semifinal, UD’s defense did a pretty good job against the GSU triple option. Navy probably doesn’t have better athletes than GSU, but they run the TO so much more efficiently that GSU did last year. Even with having to replace Dobbs, Navy should be more proficient at running the TO in their 1st game this season than GSU was by the playoffs last season. They’ll face a UD defense that only returns 3 starters, all on the front 7, and they got that transfer LB from Auburn who saw playing time on Auburns NC team last season as a true freshman. UD has to replace all 4 starters in the secondary, all 4 of whom received 1st-3rd team All CAA honors, and 2 of them got some AA honors. If UD was facing a team with a I-A with a high powered passing game that aired it out 40+ times a game they could be in some real trouble. But that isn’t the case here. An entirely brand new secondary won’t be too much of a handicap against Navy’s weak aerial attack, but it will be a problem in secondary run support, which is a crucial element in stopping the TO. I see Navy being able to consistently move the ball on the UD defense, but as they often do early in the season with the high turnover risk TO, I also see Navy putting the ball on the carpet a # of times, losing a few fumbles. That will likely keep the Navy offense from being able to score in the 30s against UD.
I see Navy trying to stuff the box to try to take away the run from UD, if not initially, they will after Pierce behind the CAA’s best OL starts moving the ball on the ground on them. I think UD will have some success through the air, but I don’t think Sestak will be able to consistently move the ball enough through the air against the Navy defense, and I think UD will probably turn the ball over a couple of times also.
W&M @ UVGay by 1-2 TDs. Every CAA preview I’ve seen has UVGay picked to finish either last or next to last (along with Duke) in the ACC Coastal Division. However, given that UVGay returns (according to the USA College Football preview) 19 starters, given what happened 2 years ago and that many of those UVGay players are still on the team, and given London’s familiarity with W&M, I don’t see this happening again.
UR @ Duke: Again, very CAA preview I’ve seen has Duke picked to finish either last or next to last (along with UVGay) in the ACC Coastal Division. I would have had this as a Duke by a 1-2 TDs pick, but UR having their coach fired 1 days before the opener changes this to 2-3 TDs.
JMU @ UNC: 24-10. I’ll start a thread on this game later
Bryant @ Maine by 1-2 Tds. Last yr Maine returned 17 starters from a 5-6/4-4 team. I thought they would able to get 7 wins and make the playoffs, and I wasn't the only one. Well, they hosted Albany in their home opener, losing 3-0. And they slipped to 3-5 in the CAA, finishing 4-7 overall. This yr Maine has 16 starters coming back. I'm not going to make that mistake of predicting them to hit 7-4. Fool me once shame on you. Fool me twice,....The NEC coaches have Bryant picked to finish 5th, and Phil Steele has them picked to finish 2nd in the NEC. I don't think Bryant is quite as good as Albany. Maine gets the win here, on their way to a around 5-6/6-5 season.
Morgan State @ Towson: Towson by 2-3 TDs in the Battle of Baltimore or whatever they call it. Towson gets one of their 3 wins on the season (I'm going to go out on a limb here and say they also beat Colgate at home and win a CAA game this season, although I'm not sure who).
Cambell @ ODU: ODU by 5-6 Tds. The only real blowout of the weekend among the CAA games.

Cambell @ ODU: ODU by 5-6 Tds. The only real blowout of the weekend among the CAA games.

On December 12, 1775 the Continental Congress created a Battalion of minuteman from the three counties in Delaware. Kent county militia were fans and owners of Game Cocks; Fight'n Blue Hens as they were called. The Fight'n Blue Hens became known far and wide as the very best Fighting Game Cocks around. Thus, the Blue Hen was established.

JMU vs UNC: UNC is a mess right now
Willam & Mary vs Virginia: The Tribe seem to have the horses this year
Delaware vs Navy: Both teams have to replace key players, Navy probabaly a little deeper
Villanova vs Temple: Rivalry game, both are going through a bit of a transition period
Richmond vs Duke: coaching change causes me to rethink this one
UNH vs Toledo: The Rockets will be much better than most FCS'ers think.
URI vs Syracuse: The Orange should take another step in the right direction this year
