Congrats to CC Sabathia for giving up 10 hits in 6 innings. No other pitcher in baseball could have done that.

CC has a veritable all-star lineup playing behind him in Boston. At the other end of the spectrum we have the Arizona Diamondbacks....they started a lineup tonight that included names like Cowgill, Burroughs, Bloomquist, Para, Hill, Overbay & Montero. Hardly a murderers row....yet they win their 8th straight, go to 77-59 and are about to go 6 games up on the fast-sinking SF Giants (who are losing 5-1 to the Cubbies in the bottom of the 7th).

Oh, by the way, the one guy I DIDN'T mention in that makeshift lineup had a 2-run HR that went about 600 feet, and 3 RBI on the night... 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-) (a HR that, BTW, matched his career high for a season with a month to go)...

Yeah, but if our second best pitcher can shut out the Red Sox, I can't wait to see our ace face them.

The Phillies are 2-1 against the Sox this year. The Yankees are 2-10.
holy crap. I'd be trying to convince myself of CC's wonderfulness too, if that were the case.
Yawn. Regular-season numbers.

BTW, with his gutty win tonight, Sabathia now has 58 wins in less than three full seasons with the Yankees. He's been the best pitcher in the game over that period.

Roy Halladay 184 wins in 372 career starts for a winning percentage of .669.
CC Sabathia 174 wins in 350 career starts for a winning percentage of .647.

ANOTHER swing and miss.

Joe, in EVERY MEANINGFUL CATEGORY Halladay is the better pitcher, but he hasn't EVER had the kind of supporting cast that Sabathia now enjoys. This is still a team game....and if the NY Yankees had Halladay they'd have more than one WS ring since 2000. :coffee: :coffee:

You know it. I know it. The whole world knows it.
Halladay is four years older, has only 22 more starts, and only 10 more wins. When Sabathia completes another four seasons, he will probably have at least another 70 wins (at least 244 wins), probably more, and at 34, still have some good seasons ahead of him as he aims at 300 wins. At that time, you will sound like one of the guys who said years ago that Garciapparra was better than Jeter.

Verlander has 57 wins over the same period with less of a batting order and defense behind him. Their stats are relatively the same the last 3 years, except this year Verlander is a step ahead of Sabathia in almost every catagory. Over the last 3 years, I would take Verlander.

Verlander's been the best pitcher in baseball this year, but over the three years, Sabathia has been slightly better, most notably in ERA.

Over the past 3 years, Verlander's ERA has been 3.08. CC's has been 3.18. How is that better, especially "notably" better?

Hey, not knocking CC, he's clearly one of the top 5 pitchers in the game today, but I'd still take Halladay and Verlander before I take him. No shame in that.

In both prior seasons, Sabathia's ERA has been lower at season end. He might still beat Verlander this season too.

With the lineup the Yankmees put on the field every night, even I could win 10 games a year there.

Let's pretend you're a GM. Pick one: the 30-year old with 174 career wins or the 34-year-old with 184 career wins.

Sabathia has a legitimate shot to get 300 wins. Halladay is a long shot.

The guy just turned 31 and has 175 career wins. How can you say he doesn't have a legitimate shot at 300 wins?

It's funny how I'm always called delusional for making predictions that come true. I called the Yankees' sweep over the Twins last year, and Clenz in particular said I was nuts. In February, I said Ivan Nova was major-league ready, and everyone laughed at me. I called the Yankees' 2009 World Series title in 2007 (saying the Yanks wouldn't have the pieces in place to win in 2007 and 2008), and everyone laughed. I called correctly every game of the 2009 World Series, in advance, as well as a 4-2 Yankees' win in the series, and everyone laughed.

I'm the only guy here who knows what he's talking about.

BTW, here's another prediction you can take to the bank. With high-maintenace Minka Kelly out of his life, Derek Jeter will return to being a .300 hitter for the next couple seasons.

Guys like RJ who pitch well into their 40's are few and far between. He averages 17 wins a year IN HIS PRIME. To get 125 more wins he'd need to average 15 wins a year for EIGHT more years.

I'll take the under.

I have a prediction of my own. High-maintenance Minka Kelly will be replaced by some other big name, high-maintenance broad and Jeter will continue getting progressively worse as he gets older. Accept it...get used to it. This isn't your daddy's Derek Jeter.
