At the other end of the spectrum we have the Arizona Diamondbacks....they started a lineup tonight that included names like Cowgill, Burroughs, Bloomquist, Para, Hill, Overbay & Montero. Hardly a murderers row....yet they win their 8th straight, go to 77-59 and are about to go 6 games up on the fast-sinking SF Giants (who are losing 5-1 to the Cubbies in the bottom of the 7th).

Oh, by the way, the one guy I DIDN'T mention in that makeshift lineup had a 2-run HR that went about 600 feet, and 3 RBI on the night... (a HR that, BTW, matched his career high for a season with a month to go)...

Joe, in EVERY MEANINGFUL CATEGORY Halladay is the better pitcher, but he hasn't EVER had the kind of supporting cast that Sabathia now enjoys. This is still a team game....and if the NY Yankees had Halladay they'd have more than one WS ring since 2000.

Halladay is four years older, has only 22 more starts, and only 10 more wins. When Sabathia completes another four seasons, he will probably have at least another 70 wins (at least 244 wins), probably more, and at 34, still have some good seasons ahead of him as he aims at 300 wins. At that time, you will sound like one of the guys who said years ago that Garciapparra was better than Jeter.

Guys like RJ who pitch well into their 40's are few and far between. He averages 17 wins a year IN HIS PRIME. To get 125 more wins he'd need to average 15 wins a year for EIGHT more years.

I have a prediction of my own. High-maintenance Minka Kelly will be replaced by some other big name, high-maintenance broad and Jeter will continue getting progressively worse as he gets older. Accept it...get used to it. This isn't your daddy's Derek Jeter.
