Is NDSU@Gophers a must win for The BISON?
Re: Is NDSU@Gophers a must win for The BISON?
I agree, Minnesota looked very good and I watched a lot of the game but not all of it. NDSU will have their hands full from what I have seen tonight.

You have to remember there will be another coaching force pushing back. Coach Bohl knows whats going on. I give NDSU a +1 on coaching if only because Kill is new.Gil Dobie wrote:Had Brewster still been coaching, I would say NDSU wins. With Jerry Kill and his style of looking for a weakness in a team, creating a mismatch and attacking it the entire game, could wear the Bison down. Hopefully the Bison weakness that Kill attacks is not so weak that it cost the game.
I thought the Gophers were impressive yesterday. But, they did lose and they did have weaknesses.
I think the Gophers looked bigger than the BISON. Im not sure about speed. The BISON are fast.

That Gopher team impressed me. Playing in the L.A. Coliseum in front of a hostile crowd and yet they had their chances to win it. A very note worthy performance indeed.

Dude, this verbal queefing thing you can't seem to stop doing is getting embarassing......
The simple fact of history is Kill beats you every time he coaches against you.
And being fast compared to a paid non-scholarship opponent is not necessarily fast......
You matter. Unless you multiply yourself by c squared. Then you energy.

I said I give +1 for coaching to NDSU right now if only because Kill is new. When he was coaching at SIU he had a mature, playoff program and barely beat a transitioning NDSU BISON team. I think that was 2005?
His squad got by the BISON 9-0. It was by far the closest game of the season for the Salukis. They blew out everybody but the BISON and finally lost to App Sate on Dec 3. So you see even coach Kill met his match long before the promised land was even reached. He isnt invincible and his moral victory yesterday doesnt amount to a hill of beans. I did think the Gophers looked good.
Since that time Coach Bohl has certainly shown he knows the game and knows how to coach. I think he is 2-1 against Lennon since 2008.
This isnt a move-up job for Coach Bohl like it is for Kill. Bohl has been in division 1 a long time. This time Coach Bohl has the mature playooff team, among the best in the country, and Coach Kill has the new, transitioning team.
If you see it differently you would sound a lot smarter if you explained yourself. Unitl then you are just hot air!

It looks like you are talking to yourself. If so, telling yourself that you are full of hot air is the best post you've ever had, and probably ever will.

For the folks that have no reading comprehension and can fashion such sophisticated humor as this:
In the meantime those readers with comprehension skills that are following the conversation I have the BISON @ Gophers early card looking like this:
NDSU = 5
UM = 5
Offense:
Rushing NDSU +1
Passing NDSU +1
NDSU = +2
Rushing UM Neutral only 110 yds last week
Passing UM +1 200 yds and 1 TD last week. One INT.
UM = +1
Defense:
Rushing NDSU +1
Passing NDSU neutral
NDSU = +1
Rushing UM +2
Passing -1 gave up 302 yds and 3 TDs
UM = +1
Intangibles
Home Field: +1 NDSU
Home Field: neutral UM
Coaching: +1 NDSU
UM: neutral
Level of competition:
NDSU neutral
UM +3
I say have at it.Chip from Back East wrote:It looks like you are talking to yourself. If so, telling yourself that you are full of hot air is the best post you've ever had, and probably ever will.

Analysing the following card the big advantage UM has is the level of competiton. Their stats are "better" than NDSUs.JBB wrote:This game is a toss-up folks, but almost everyone I talk with thinks Kill will be the difference. They forget about Coach Bohl. It might just come down to coaching?

No doubt about that, but they're still USC, even with a clown like Kiffin. They left some points on the field and dominated the statistics, but the important thing for UM is that they will play with a whole new attitude now. They will likely expose NDSU's secondary.ming01 wrote:or maybe usc isnt that great this year? just a thought

Re: Is NDSU@Gophers a must win for The BISON?
I liked the Gophers QB. Their offense looked good. The passing game was outstanding. 300+ yds sure tested the USC secondary so I would expect the NDSU secondary will be tested as well. Its the NDSU defense line that will be the difference. A good pass rush will sure help.
It should be noted that the starter Marquis Grey was relieved in the third quarter because of leg cramps. Their second man Max Shortell did very well too throwing for almost 100 yds but on the last drive for the win he was intercepted ending the Gophers chances.
USC is not a powerhouse team. they were ranked 25 or so and with a bad game will disappear from the top 25. This could have been a game against two average teams or it might have been a good or bad day for either one of them. Time will tell that but in the end it was a good game between two evenly matched teams.

USC was ranked 19th abd eill probably stay about there
Re: Is NDSU@Gophers a must win for The BISON?
I had heard that too but the following source is either quoting another poll or this is where they are ranked after the victory, a fall of 6 places;
http://www.gophersports.com/sports/m-footbl/recaps/090311aab.html wrote:Second half touchdowns from Duane Bennett and Brandon Green pulled Minnesota within two points late in the fourth quarter. But the Gophers couldn't complete the rally to give first-year head coach Jerry Kill a victory over 25th-ranked Southern California in his first game at the helm as Minnesota fell to USC, 19-17.

Re: Is NDSU@Gophers a must win for The BISON?
Actually, this game is a lot like the UND Cockriders game against Texas Tech a few years back. The Cockriders dropped that contest by 21 points or more and they acted like they had arrived. They filled the air with moral victory talk that continues to this day bragging up coaches, players and program with I guess the greatest moral upset in the history of college ball, at least until yesterday.
The Gophers are doing the same thing. They are posting a moral victory with celebration and congratulations all around for the loss. This moring all the talk is how great Jerry Kill is, how well they are playing, how good they looked. If you didnt know the score you would think they won.
Thats what bad programs do. The more they celebrate that loss the better I like it.

Re: Is NDSU@Gophers a must win for The BISON?
The Gophers have 2 great recievers in McKnight the veteran and Marcus Jones the up and coming Freshman. Mouton and Green are also reliable. Chances are they will send McKnight deep and hit Jones on the slant. They had a good showing against ESPN #25 USC.houndawg wrote:No doubt about that, but they're still USC, even with a clown like Kiffin. To illustrate what you are saying Gil Im posting these highlights. Some great plays and a lot of problems NDSU is going to have to solve. The recievers are everything you say they are and Grey can run. Several True Freshman starting including Grey.

This thread was fun to read from beginning to end, in view of how the season played out. You go JBB, ya made 'em eat crow, even the queasy-spined Bison fans.
