Sad Flyers News
Reports from Russia this morning are an entire Russian League hockey team perished in an airplane crash, including their head coach & former Flyers blue-liner Brad McCrimmon. I was in high school in the mid 80's watching McCrimmon team with Mark Howe as the best defense combo in hockey. RIP Brad.

A passenger airplane that had been chartered by one of Russia’s best-known hockey teams crashed during take-off Wednesday, killing much of the team, including many of its star players, in the latest air disaster here this summer.
The Yak-42 jet was carrying the team, called Lokomotiv, from its home in Yaroslavl, a city northeast of Moscow, to an away game in Minsk, the capital of Belarus.
The initial accounts of the number of people on board varied from 37 to 44. A Russian aviation official told the Interfax news agency that all but one — a member of the crew — had died.

So far, 2011 has been a terrible year for air safety in Russia, with eight crashes that have killed 120 people. Six of those crashes have occurred since June.

Re: Sad Flyers News
Damn - that's scary shit.
A guy I went to high school with plays (or at least played last year) with a KHL team... When Dan Patrick reported that "a KHL team plane had crashed" there were a few panicky moments - he didn't reveal that it was Locomotiv...
I'm wondering if my friend will rethink playing another season over there... given that he's 30 now and only been up in the NHL a couple times and never stayed long - the payday would have to be might nice to justify this kind of risk.

I thought this thread was going to be about Paul Holmgren's bicycle accident.
