Not sure why. The score will be 10-3 by then. JMU will still have a chance at a comeback.

Aww, who am I trying to kid. There will be no chance. Time to tailgate.

You must've misread. I'm talking about JMU, not ODU's first jaunt through hell..I mean the CAA. Back to your subs, sailors.

This. It's great we've got 25K at the home opener and 8K of those are students...but if only 3K of the students stay, we're down 20% in the fourth quarter, EVEN in a close game. That, in the words of the immortal Chuckie Barkley, is turrrible. Oh, and I know I'm the one that posted about selling out homecoming and family weekend, but I'm worried the fourth quarter attendance will be atrocious at those games...
That starts with student culture. I don't think there was ever an attempt to teach freshman the importance of staying for the whole game. Change the culture, changes the atmosphere.

Delaware sells out their student alottment every game. Whether or not those students actually walk through the turnstiles and stay for the whole game is a whole other story.

The best question to ask 1AA fans would be, whose students have the coldest beer in their coolers back in the parking lot?

I agree to a certain extent, but I think that's a universal problem with student bases. But when a smaller school, like Richmond, only gets 1,200 (which is a good number for their student body), the 600 bodies that might leave aren't as noticeable.

To the extent that changing the atmosphere will help, I think it's great that they had a freshman pep rally in the stadium this year and I hope that kind of stuff helps.

at Southern the student section runs from the 50 to the South End Zone and they get in for free with a school ID. I'd say we get at least 3K to 4K depending on how well the team is doing and what game it is. The student section is full for homecoming.

Gosh, you'd think they'd stay in the parking lots for the tailgating.

GSU's enrollment is supposed to be at 21,000 this fall. I would say we are going to get about 10K students per game.

NDSU students cant get rowdy or loud in the fargodome without fargodome rent-a-cops throwing cuffs on them or just kicking them out for no good reason.

W&M usually gets about half of its 5,700 undergrads. Delaware game a few years ago drew 3,400 when they cut them off.

Not enough but it's getting better. The students do a better job of stepping up and supporting university athletics than the Flagstaff community does.

8k students won't make it into the stadium (too many drunks, esp if tailgating/partying all day before a 6 PM game). Tickets sold versus butts in seats is two totally different things.....

If JMU sells 25k tickets, then won't have 25k butts in seats. Typically at most schools are probably about 10-20% no shows in good weather, much higher in worse weather (keeping fingers crossed rain holds off (currently calling for 30% chance).
-You have season ticket holders who know well ahead of time that they won't be making a certain game and yet don't turn in their unused tickets (I never do).
-You have people (be they single game or season ticket holders) who have something come up last min game week with work or family and can't make it.
-You have the more social types who are less interested in the games & more interested in socializing at the tailgates but also have tickets who never make it in to the games.
-You have people who plan on making it in to the games who end up getting too drunk and never making it (esp students)

To get 25k butts in seats, or at least inside the stadium, JMU would need to sell about 30k tickets.....

This game on the one hand would have a lower % of no shows simply because the hype of the opener. On the other hand JMU has pulled out all the stops to be able to call this a sellout (ex, the 2 free tickets to season ticket holders that renewed by Dec 31st) and there will be a lot of unused tickets (heck, I have an extra myself). If the weather remains good with 25k tickets sold will have 20+k butts in seats. Close game most will stay, may slip to a little under 20k. There will be the pull of the post game fireworks and band. If its a blowout will have probably 10-15k in the 4th qtr...

FWIW I was told they let the student tickets sell over the max 8,000 ... because they built in the fact they didn't expect them all to come ... heard they went over by a few hundred ... and if all do come in ... they can squeeze em in

A few hundred over won't matter. Even if JMU gave 8500, they'll be well less than 8k making it into the game, as at least 10% will be too drunk by 6 PM (or just won't want to stop drinking at whatever tailgate or pre game party they are at). This is JMU after all.. :|
