Fresh off a 42-6 victory over the Lafayette Leopards the demonstrated an improved passing game along with a rock-solid defense, the Bison football team will face off the St. Francis University Red Flash in their week 2 matchup in Fargo.

Good write-up of the game. Nothing new. We have touched on everything in this thread but its got some interesting details about DJs ankle and some additional insights. Good author with a lot of knowledge about football and the BISON.

HIs final prediciton is 54-7 NDSU.

Oh, there are. They just don't care about this game because it's not against a spotlight team.

There is a whole spectrum of teams in the FCS spanning the scale from weak to strong. St. Francis would be considered on the weaker side, schools like Laffayette, Montana and Illinois State are in the middle and in the top group you have schools like GSU, the team that was supposed to be in Fargo this weekend but backed out, and of course NDSU.

Whats important is the fact that NDSU is scheduling intra-division, playing all comers in the FCS/BCS/FBS. Some schools like GSU and UND cant say that. But the common thread for NDSUs scheduling model is the opponent must be a play-off "counter".

Ducking worthy opponents with D2 games or worse is simply not in the cards for the top FCS programs in the country. Poor scheduling choices are often indicative of other problems particularly money problems. Its also insulting to the conference by telling your conference mates that you can waste a game because you can win all you need against them.

No, St. Francis isnt the strongest opponent NDSU could have had but they are a counter, an FCS school and we are glad to have them after the spot GSU put us in.

Hopefully after this game NDSU will be 2-0 on the playoff win ledger. Other schools will have played 2 games and not have anything to show for it except and FBS loss and a D2 game or worse.

Interesting game predictions here:

http://www.sportsnetwork.com/merge/tsnf ... id=4434902

They are predicting:

North Dakota State 45, St. Francis 31

This is a generous point total to give the Red Flash and has some BISON fans brisling a bit but its a legit call. Last week The Flash lost to Wagner 38-28. They put up some good numbers: about 200 yds rushing and 275 passing. This will be a nice test for the NDSU defense. I dont expect the Red Flash to put up 28, much less 31, but its a possibility if the Flash play as well as they did last week. Its clear Sports Center is expecting a very entertaining game!

There are some other things you want to remember. Sports Network has never really had a good handle on the NDSU BISON. They had a bad time of it in the playoffs last year.

Robert Morris 21, North Dakota State 9 (actual score 17-43)
Montana State 30, North Dakota State 16. (actual score 17-42)

Some other predictions from the article include:

EWU 41 USD 17 Seems to be a good measure of popular opinion
UNI 31 SFA 27

Lots of games of interest covered.

There is going to be an impressive crowd at this football game tomorrow. Word is starting to come out that a "Sell-Out Alert" has been issued. Apprently, from what I have heard, that order puts concession suppliers on notice of fines if any products run out. :coffee:

It also means if you want to go to the game you should probably check in at http://www.gobison.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; now.

Tailgate weather is expected to be sunny, in the 80s. It will be an outstanding late summer day on the NDSU Campus. Its worth the walk around if you have the energy and the time.

They aren't, but the backup (Esley Thornton) will see significant playing time. I believe Coach Bohl said he will likely come in during the first half.

Here we go again. Last week you heard - and posted - that NDSU had 600 yards of offense. The number was closer to 400. Never mind the fact that you could easily have checked your facts, it's clear that your sources suck.

I hope Bison fans aren't overlooking this game and towards Minnesota. Cal Poly beat St. Francis by 8 last year...yes 1 TD and a 2pt Conversion. Northern Colorado overlooked Lindenwood and got beat last weekend. Without DJ in the backfield it could be an interesting game....or it could be a total ass kicking which I predict 63-0.

Game day is here! Fans are moving toward the Fabulous Fargo Dome as we speak. Others are finishing their coffee but all the traveling fans are ready to move the lodges to the West Lot at the prestigious and insanely popular Fabulous Fargo Dome. When the BISON take the field the full stadium will certainly be rocking.

What will they see:

1) Lots of Sam Ojuri #2 BISON Running Back. Ojouri is very fast, athletic, can control his body. He made a move last week that reminded me of Lamar Gordon the great BISON/NFL running back of the late 80s early 90s.

2) Lots of Esley Thorton #2 BISON QB. Its been known for several days Thorton was getting the first half. Some are fanning the flame of controversy thinking Thorton is overtaking starter Brock Jenson. I dont think so. I think The Coach learned a lesson. Its something a lot of us criticised him on: Give the back ups some experience. Thorton is good. Should be fun.

3) Lots of Ryan Smith. Ryan has been tagged to replace Zach Vraa, the injured WR. Smith is a dynamic player. He should add a lot of yds after the carry.

4) Billy Turner will play. He is The NFL quality Offensive Tackle for the BISON. He has a broken thumb. He is 6-6 295 (#77), fast and strong. Easy to spot keep an eye on him.

Its game day folks. The BISON are ready. The TV crews are setting up now. There are some coaches in the offices deep under the stands but this is not seen as a matter of concern regarding todays game plan. After a successful week of practice that stressed "One game at a time", fundamentals: catching, throwing, blocking, tackling, running, and a good diet with exercise the Herd should be ready to stampede!

GO BISON!!!!

JBB: I enjoy your passion for, as you describe it, “The Fabulous Fargodome.” My one time experience there was for the NDSU vs. UNI game two years ago. The Fargodome is, as you state, a very nice and very comfortable facility. One gets the feeling that the playing field is subterranean which made for a unique experience. As a casual observer I felt that the lighting needed to be improved and the “manufactured sounds” from the P.A. system became annoying at times. Never-the-less it was a quality football atmosphere. However, tailgating from what the Bison faithful refer to as the “west lot” was short lived for me. There was a breeze from the west and, as I learned, to the west of the Fargodome are the hog, sheep, cattle and equestrian barns and beyond that to the west is a landfill. The tailgaters looked to be enjoying themselves but on that day, for me, no thanks. All and all it was nice visit. :thumb:

Besides being what I would call an obviously over sensative person to your environment - there are no large congreation of barns but what barns are there are a couple miles west. The landfill is several miles south and the EPA has, over the past 20 years cleaned that place up - The winds must have been crazy that day?

Im sure you will be happy to hear the insanely popular FCS venue has redone the lighting and the sound. Both are a huge improvement for the fans. The turf will be replaced this coming summer.

If you enjoyed your visit we would certainly like to have you back but if you are as sensitive as you claim I would recommend you move into a bubble. Thanks for checking in! :thumb:

Most attendance estimates now have the crowd pegged to 18,000 pluss. Last night there were fewer than 500 student tickets left and only about 600 reserved left this morning. That triggers the estimate of 18,000 +. That will make this game one of the largest FCS games in the country. Top 5.

That makes this game a big game that could draw the highlite spotlight from the nationa networks. The game is streamed live at http://www.gobison.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and check your TV listing if you are in the Dakotas. The game is televised state-wide.

I'll take your word for it on the pig manure, you obviously have a lot of experience with it, but NDSU doesnt have any hog barns near the main campus. 19,000 acres is a pretty big spread.
