No comment on the reason for this game being in South Dakota? Only stupid, immature remarks typical of your format.
No comment on the one dimensional aspect of EWU so far this season? Is the running game simply going to materialize on command or is there some reason you think EWU can conjure up some yds on the ground?
You see, everybody is not going to be an EWU fan or a USD fan for that matter. When you run into an opposing opinion you are always better off discussing the subject at hand than expressing your frustration with free thought and start calling names like you and your friend have done. It exposes the shallow nature of your intellect, such as it is. But, if thats going to make you feel better do go on.

hmmm, seems this topic has somehow gotten far off base. Seems someone might still be a little bitter about last season.
By self admission, I do not know much about South Dakota's team other than a brief synopsis from one of their fans, the game they played last week and their overall record last season. Anyone have any insight into what we can expect from this bunch?

The reason this game even exists is because we wanted another FCS game, not a D-II, and USD wouldn't agree to it if it was in Cheney. They, just like the bi-son, are afraid of the red turf.
The reason why we were predominantly a passing team through ONE GAME has already been explained to you. But, given your mental inadequacies, I will make a futile effort to educate you once again. Are you ready for it? We didn't try to run the ball. There you go. When we make running the ball a point of emphasis this weekend, you will choke on your words.

Thats one of the reasons why I can't wait to go west. That red turf looks cool on tv and must be a sight in person. Plus my son's favorite color is red so he is excited that UND plays out there next October. As long as the weather is decent and since its October it should be I am excited to go!!! Just hope there are tickets available. Us Sioux fans travel quite well, and going west we are entering our recruiting/alumni area. Oh I pick EWU over USD.Screamin_Eagle174 wrote:You and lakes are the only fools in this thread, Excuse Maker! Immature remarks? If this game were in Chenny it wouldnt get a blip. Its a Dakota Big 3 game and as such is garnering a lot of interest in Fargo, the nations hot bed for FCS football. Here is what is being said in Fargo:

Both USD and EWU looked decent in losing efforts to FBS schools last week.
Last week EWU had about 500 yds passing and 31 yds rushing on 17 attempts. They ran up and down the field all day but the 500 yds were mostly in vain. USD showed a very balanced attack. If the USD Defense can slow that passing game up a bit and the Eagles dont get the running game moving, the USD 3.9 yds/carry will win the day.

Re: #1 EWU @ USD Discussion & Game Thread
The reason for EWU agreeing to play at USD has been discussed ad nauseum, and is entirely irrelevant to the current discussion. But just as a recap, EWU rotates between 6 and 5 homes games every season. This was a 5 home game season, but instead of the usual DII or extra FBS game, we wanted an FCS opponent, even if that meant having to travel. I would have preferred a home and home deal, but I don't know the intimate details of how it worked out. I seriously doubt it had anything to do with the BSC trying to throw USD a bone in hopes that it'd give them some sort of additional incentive in joining the conference. USD is going to the MVFC; I say congrats to them as it seems like a much better fit for them. UND, on the other hand, obviously understands the benefits of playing in a more historically established conference which will house the majority of their sports. Not a hodge-podge of random schools with no real connections to one another like the Summit. They have obviously also taken note of the the fact that in football Big Sky members have an excellent shot of playing for a National Championship every season. This is obviously something that UND fans should be excited about. Playing in a conference with a higher level of competition will raise the competitive bar for their program.
As to the previous question, the Coyotes of USD seem to have a solid bunch returning. They welcome back 9 of 11 starters on offense, and 10 on defense. This is something that they have to feel good about. Their leading running back rushed for 817 yards last season and their QB had 2,530 all-purpose yards. He seems mobile and could give the Eagles problems if they cannot contain. The Coyotes are 34-5 in the DakotaDome under their current coach, including a 23-game winning streak from Nov. 15, 2003, to Nov. 10, 2007. USD has an overall 124-58 record in there, an impressive stat which should give them confidence going into this one.
EWU should be able to get their yards through the air. Several have noted that they will not be able to run the ball. That remains to be seen, but I think we will have more success in that area against FCS opposition than against our Pac-12 opponent last Saturday where we mostly ran draws to try to keep their defense somewhat honest.
Let's hope for a good, injury-free game.
As a side-note, what sort of playing surface is in the Dakota-dome?

I think your buddy Frank Rizzo needs to do his homework a little better before he opens his mouth. What four road games in a row? We play at Missoula next week, which is a short distance away, and then we have MSU and Weber State at home. Yeah, the USD game is a trek, but as was previously mentioned they are flying charter, so it's not like they're doing an 8 hour bus trip or something. Excellent post Ranger! Head and shoulders above the drival you read from some of the others.
The surface is field turf. New, maybe a couple years old.
Vermillion is a very small town. Downtown bars are fun. Stay in Sioux Falls. If you dont mind walking a mile or two you can easily walk from the stadium downtown. The parking lots are kind of small but there will be some tail gating.
Even though you dont think EWU was sent to USD by the BSC nobody is really sure. Its just conjecture on my part but proof either way has not surfaced. It fits your NDSU approved scheduling model for the season as well. Hats off to that!
I havent been to the Dakota Dome in a number of years. We quit scheduling them in 2003 and just played the first of the new series in Division 1 last year in Fargo. They gave us a whale of a first half but the BISON came on strong in the 2nd. I wouldnt be surprised to see that happen tomorrow.

I dont know Ranger. A road game is a road game and wishful thinking isnt found in the statistics. After tomorrows game we will have a 2 game picture of both teams. A much better foundation, but right now the only wishful thinking I see is the 4th road game.

I think USD fans are as scarce as Red Flash fans.
Im surprised by the number of people picking USD. Thats not to say the majority isnt going with EWU, maybe enough to justify a USD win as an upset, at least against popular opinion. Right now though it looks like a decent match-up and there is no reason to expect it to get out of hand. It could be competitive to the end. Thats another reason the game is getting some interest in Fargo. It has some drama. NDSU fans are only loosely focused on the St. Francis game because it appears to be all NDSU.

The Eagles are playing USD on the road because they get paid $50,000 to beat a team with a modicum of cachet. For all you mouthbreathers named JBB, that means USD, unlike Lafayette and St. Francis, doesn't suck. And now for a lesson in history, economics, and football. The Eagles will continue to throw the ball because of what the great social philosopher and economics pioneer Adam Smith called the division of labor. See, Smith argued that productive labor should be made even more productive by deepening the division of labor. For Eastern, that means emphasis is placed on passing since passing is already it's most productive labor. It's not that the Eagle running game is lacking, only that a redoubled focus on the passing game yields greater results. I apologize if this is difficult for the average Bison fan to grasp. It must be heartbreaking to know that a proper education is but a fleeting dream.

NDSU wouldnt travel accros the river for $50,000. Like I said the money looks better than a home game for EWU. They were lucky to get this deal.blazerbird wrote:The Eagles are playing USD on the road because they get paid $50,000 to beat a team with a modicum of cachet. Although your game analaysis is intriguing and offers an interesting counter point, at this time I would have to disagree about the EWU running game. 17 attempts, 31 yds. Maybe Washington has the best run defense in the country, I dont know? But dont you think a defending national champion should be able to muster a little more than that.
It may also be true that the Washington pass defense lacks a bit. But, like I said you can have your 500 yds as long as that points/yd ratio stays below .05/yd or so the passing attack is seen as neutral.

Ask Nebraska. That Washington DL dominated the Huskers in the Holiday Bowl last December. One of their DTs is a projected 1st round NFL draft pick.Maybe Washington has the best run defense in the country, I dont know?
Re: #1 EWU @ USD Discussion & Game Thread
I didnt see the game with UW and I didnt see the Holiday bowl last year but Ill take your word for it the UW defensive line is NFL quality. That was the big reason for the 31 yds. Just like the BISON last year when they beat the Jayhawks. Great defense limited the BISON offensive production. EWU lost a clean contest. Probably the biggest stat is 4 lost turnovers. Lots of wasted possessions.
USD isnt as good as NDSU. A win by EWU isnt unexpected. I can see the way for USD. They have to limit the passing and neutralize the EWU running game. The Yotes have to get the same game they got last week. A nice balanced attack, scoring points and moving the ball.
