I'm not too worried about CP's offense. The Griz have historically done well against option teams with Breske as DC (unlike Paulson). The key is avoiding the mistakes from last year: turnovers, big pass plays, penalties & poor punting. The Mustangs have had a porous secondary in recent years, so hopefully the Griz QBs can be accurate enough to take advantage (UM threw for 416 in SLO last year).

Re: BSC predictions Week 2
ISU is not on par with UNC. UNC will own the cellar this year. ISU is taking a step out of the basement with Kramer. They might have been blown out by an FBS school (albeit a bad one, but WSU is getting better too), but they did put up 400+ through the air and score a few times. They will win 2-3 games in the BSC this year I think.SuperHornet wrote:ISU is on a par with UNC, and we all know what happened to THEM last week....biobengal wrote:

Re: BSC predictions Week 2
After the first week, I sit at 7-2, not giving Sac State enough credit and giving Northern Colorado too much. This week, I search for perfection to make the overall mark a bit better. With Portland State having a bye this week (hope we at least make it competitive), I don't think any of my picks would fit the "homer" category, so here they are.
EWU at South Dakota---After their near win at Washington, the Eagles play in their own level, facing a true test in their quest of defending the national champion moniker. Being the hunted as compared to the hunter brings a whole new set of responsibility, but based on the game last week, it is clear the Eagles are up to the challenge...EWU 38, South Dakota 23.
Western State at ISU---Last week, the Bengals stepped up to a higher level, going on the road to Washington State and, even though both may be considered the "doormats" of their respective conferences, the Bengals did give a spirited performance. This week, they return back home to face DII Western State, whom Montana opened up with the last couple years. Should be no problem...ISU 48, Western State 10.
Cal Poly at UM---42 points may seem like a lot of points for the strong Grizzlies defense to give up, but then again it was against the SEC. On a better note, the questionable Grizzlies offense managed a respectable 16 points. This week, a return home and a return to the FCS, and a return to better times...UM 24, Cal Poly 20.
UC-Davis at MSU---What to make of this. Last week, the Bobcats defense held a strong Utah offense down enough to keep the team in the game. This week, there should be no letdown in the defense, but the offense needs to get on track. Against a future conference foe, that may be a bit difficult, but of course not impossible...MSU 31, UC-Davis 17.
Fort Lewis at NAU---Lost in the good things around the conference last week was that the Lumberjacks were having a typical Big Sky/Pac-12 game against Arizona. This week, a return to better times (probably) as they play DII's Fort Lewis in the Skydome. The Lumberjacks still have a few questions that need to be answered, hopefully they can answer them in this game...NAU 31, Fort Lewis 17.
UNC at Colorado State---The Bears struggled mightily against the NAIA's Lindenwood team last week and came out on the short end. Many questions surrounding this team and this week, at the Mountain West's Colorado State, they all may not be answered. Can the Bears get back on track? Not in this game...Colorado State 38, UNC 7.
Sac State at Southern Utah---The Hornets opened up some eyes on the west coast and across the nation with their shocking victory over the Pac-12 Oregon State. Their great season is off to a flying start and they don't intend to slow down for anyone. However, this week brings another upstart, Southern Utah, in to the picture, who also had visions of greatness that took a big hit over the weekend. Can the Hornets keep it going...Sac State 30, Southern Utah 27.
WSU at Utah State---Last week, the Wildcats headed into Wyoming with some questions. Now, with a bunch of those questions answered amid a near victory, they stay in the FBS and head down the road to Utah State, who threw a surprise into Auburn. Indications are that this Wildcat team is going to be good, but indications are that Utah State will be too...Utah State 31, WSU 20.
EWU at South Dakota---After their near win at Washington, the Eagles play in their own level, facing a true test in their quest of defending the national champion moniker. Sac, EWU, and the Griz have amazingly tough early schedules. I can't ever remember so many important games in September. This could end up being a four bid year for the conference - especially if Poly stumbles against us.SDHornet wrote:This. As a Hornet fan this is a must win game. Especially heading into WSU in week 3 in a place we never won followed by facing UM at home in week 4.Kadeezy wrote:
Well, I think it's a bigger game for SAC than it is for UM. If SAC wants to make the playoffs and be considered "for real", they need to beat a quality FCS opponent on the road and head to Weber with Utah confidence!
Looking objectively... I would say that the UM/CP game is probably the bigger game. 0-2 UM would spur craziness amongst the Griz faithful and the Sky...
CP has their backs against the wall in week 2. They have a non-counter and another FBS program still on the schedule. They lose this week (assuming they lose their FBS game) and they have to win out to have a shot at the playoffs. I have a hard time seeing CP getting blown out this week.

I would love to see that...not sure if you actually watched that game. UT really only had a couple of big passing plays. The first one was off a flea flicker...i'm pretty sure that would've caught most defenses off guard. Honestly, and I may be alone here, i'm not concerned about our defense...at all.

You scored 21 points against their 2's and 3's. They're the worst team in the Pac 12. Wasn't it something like 44-0 at half time? By the 3rd they've pulled their starters. You've got Tavoy Moore out until Oct and AJ Storms out for a bit. You should handle Western State, but it might be close.biobengal wrote:FYI, ISU scored 21 on the road at Washington State, Western State scored 12 at home against Angelo State. EWU 38-24 South Dakota — Coyote QB Dante Warren makes an upset possible, but it still isn't likely.
Sac State 38-28 Suutah — The T-Birds don't have the defense to win this one.
Western St. 10-45 Idaho St. — Good thing for ISU that the Mountaineers are a terrible DII team.
Weber 21-51 Utah St. — Could the Aggies actually be good enough to make a bowl?
Ft. Lewis 7-49 NAU — The 'Jacks are good at hammering DIIs.
Cal Poly 14-31 Montana — I hope the Mustangs like breathing smoke.
UC Davis 21-38 Montana St. — No 45-0 embarrassment this time.
NoCo 6-35 Colorado St. — Good thing for CSU that the Bears are a terrible FCS team.

Re: BSC predictions Week 2
It is interesting how the eight Big Sky games this week can be put in four similar pairs:
Weber State at Utah State and Northern Colorado at Colorado State--two teams playing nearby FBS schools (that are their respective state's landgrant colleges). Unfortunately for the Big Sky, I think Utah State and Colorado State win these games.
Montana and Montana State hosting Cal Poly and UC Davis (teams in the Great West, that will be football only in the Big Sky and in other sports in the Big West). I think the Montana schools win these.
Sacramento State and Eastern Washington playing at Great West schools Southern Utah and South Dakota. The Big Sky schools are among the best in FCS. But, I think the Big Sky splits these games with Southern Utah and Eastern Washington winning them.
Northern Arizona and Idaho State hosting Division II GMAC schools from western Colorado (Fort Lewis and Western State). NAU and ISU easily win these.
