I didn't say they can't hang with the big boys. I said that if you took a team with their talent level and had them play an SEC conference schedule they would not be in the conversation for a place in the national championship game because they'd lose some games. Yes it might be true that if they were in a BCS conference they'd have more talent because it'd help their recruiting. And their talent level is high for a non BCS league team. But it's not high enough to play against 8 SEC teams in 10 or 11 weeks and come out of the other side with a record good enough to put them in the BCS championship game conversation.Yeah, pretty funny that St Wrong resorts to rambling about how many NFL players each school has, rather than manning up and admitting that Boise has proven they can hang with the big boys

You position is both arrogant and ignorant. When Boise is given the chance to play one of the "Big Boys" - almost always on the road - they usually win.JohnStOnge wrote:I didn't say they can't hang with the big boys. Rather than credit them for what they have actually done on the field, you resort to some lame hypothetical argument. Nobody knows if they could compete week after week in the SEC, they haven't been given the chance.
If the SEC really wanted to put an end to the Boise talk they should beat them on the field. Maybe LSU could step up and schedule a home and home with Boise. Until then, beat Boise or STFU.

Boise State is now 1-4 against the SEC; so the SEC HAS beaten Boise State. What I'd say is have Boise State schedule all of its non conference games against good BCS league teams and beat them all or STFU. Rather, have all the people who tout Boise State as deserving a BCS championship game bid for winning one game against a good but not great BCS league team then waltzing through a weak schedule to STFU.Rather than credit them for what they have actually done on the field, you resort to some lame hypothetical argument. And this year's Georgia team might be better characterized as "mediocre" rather than good. The Bulldogs have a favorable schedule in that they don't have to play any of what are expected to be the SEC West's three toughest teams (Alabama, LSU, and Arkansas). But that was not one of the SEC's top teams Boise State played. It's a team that has more overall athleticism and talent than Boise State does and Boise State deserves credit for beating them. But it's not one of the SEC's top teams this year.

FWIW the University of Iowa has something like 50 NFL'ers the last 10 years or so....no national titles and only a share of one, maybe two, big 10 titles.

The SEC is 0-1 now against the real Boise State. With a blowout on on home turf. Against Chris Peterson. Boise State wasn't Boise until he got there. How many games has the SEC played in Idaho? LOL. Boise would run any SEC team off the field in Idaho.JohnStOnge wrote:Boise State is now 1-4 against the SEC; so the SEC HAS beaten Boise State. your point is exactly what? It makes no sense geographically for an SEC team to go play a team in Idaho. SEC teams don't need to go out of conference and play notable opponents even though most do (Florida/Florida State, Alabama/Penn State, LSU/Oregon and so on)...Boise on the other hand don't have much of a choice if they want to be considered for a BCS bowl game.eagleskins wrote:The SEC is 0-1 now against the real Boise State. OOC schedule is more of a money issue than a geography issue. You are right that the SEC doesn't need to schedule games in Idaho, but then their fans shouldn't complain if Boise goes undefeated and gets invited to a BCS bowl game.ODUalum11 wrote:your point is exactly what? Re: Boise State vs. Georgia
I was thinking about this conversation about talent level. As I was watching LSU play Mississippi State then Boise State playing Toledo I was thinking about how many Boise State players could start for LSU. Of course we can never really know if I"d win the bet or not but I'd bet no more than 5. Probably less than that. This is what I was thinking position of by position group(s):
Quarterback: Yes. Boise State has a very effective quarterback and LSU just hopes its quarterback manages the game and doesn't lose it.
Running Back: No. The Boise State guy is pretty good but I think he'd be no higher than #3 on the depth chart at LSU.
Tight end: No.
Wideout: No. None of Boise State's current wideouts would start at LSU and probably none would even see the field unless they made the roster and there was a bench clearing blowout.
Offensive line: This is where Boise State might make some hay. For sure one probably would as he is a solid NFL prospect.
Defensive line: No way. None of Boise State's guys would even make the two deep. They are postively sluggish compared to the guys LSU has.
Linebacker: Hard to tell. LSU's defensive line is so good and deep that the linebackers' jobs are relatively easy.
Secondary: No chance.
Punter: Not when LSU's punter is healthy (he's out with injury right now). He's a former Austrialian rules football player who can boom them and also place them very well.
Kicker: Probably not even though LSU's placekicker does have problems getting kickoffs deep. He's pretty accurate on field goals and it looks like Boise State doesn't have a lot of confidence in their kicker.

Re: Boise State vs. Georgia
BTW, I would love to see Boise State play LSU. I think Boise State would have a shot because of the difference at quarterback and LSU is one of those teams that's beatable because it wins with defense and special teams while having its offense play just not to lose. I think LSU has the secondary guys to lock down man on man and pretty much smother Boise State's receivers as well as the D line personnel to possibly develop a good pass rush so it'd be interesting to see. It'd be interesting to see how Moore would do if he was getting heat and not having receivers pop open quickly if that is indeed how things developed.
Maybe it'll happen. One never knows.

Re: Boise State vs. Georgia
You could say the same thing for 95% of FBS football. LSU is one of the most talented teams in the entire country, and they are always loaded. The fact that the majority of LSU's team is more talented than Boise St is not something unique to Boise St, and doesn't really prove anything.JohnStOnge wrote:I was thinking about this conversation about talent level. Re: Boise State vs. Georgia
I didn't make excuses. I said I think Georgia has more overall talent and I still do. I think if you follow the NFL draft over the next four years you will see more Georgia players go in the NFL draft than Boise State players. Also, I think if you look at who is on NFL rosters 5 to 10 years from now you'll see more players from this year's Georgia team on them than you'll see from this year's Boise State team. And I don't think it'll be close. You can tell me to STFU up if you like, but you're the one who started the thread, and then started with the excuses when Boise won
I did not predict a Georgia win. After the game, based on the way Georgia played, I said I think it'll be a long year for Georgia in the SEC. We'll see. I do think they caught a break in that they don't play any of what appear to be the three strongest team in the SEC west. Ole Miss is really bad. Kentucky's not real good either. Vanderbilt appears to be better but we'll see. Florida, Tennessee, Auburn, and Mississippi State are going to be tough games for them.
I said they were 3-5 in the SEC last year and that's the truth. Another thing is that they were bad on defense last year and had changed DCs in hoping things would be better. But the early returns aren't encouraging for them as they gave up 35 to Boise State then 45 to South Carolina. The 45 against South Carolina is a little deceptive because there was a pick six and a 68 yard TD run on a fake punt but it was still 31 if you take those two away. Also when they needed to in the fourth quarter they couldn't stop South Carolina from just running the ball down their throat.
We'll see. But right now I think we'll look back after the season and see that they were a middle of the pack SEC team. I think it's a real accomplishment for Boise State to beat a middle of the pack SEC team. But I don't think they beat anything like a top SEC team and I think it's more likely than not that Georgia is going to finish the season outside of any of the major top 25 polls. If we get to the end of the season and I'm wrong about those things then I'll be wrong. But I interpret what I saw when Georgia played Boise State as indicating that Georgia is not going to have the turnaround from last year that it hoped for and what I saw from their defense against South Carolina only strengthened that impression.

Re: Boise State vs. Georgia
I think 35-21 is a solid win and I guess what constitutes a "blowout" is subjective but I don't think a 14 point win is a blowout. They controlled the game and moved the ball far more consistently but they only outgained Georgia by 390 to 373 in total yards. With a blowout on on home turf.
Nothing we can put to the test but do you really think that Boise State could take the team it has right now, play an SEC conference schedule, and finish with a good enough record to be in the conversation for being in the BCS championship game?
Seriously now.

Re: Boise State vs. Georgia
They would probably have a better chance than they do under their current schedule. Right now, if Boise goes undefeated there is no guarantee that they will be in the BCS title game. They could lose a game in the SEC and still have a shot at the champ game.JohnStOnge wrote:I think 35-21 is a solid win and I guess what constitutes a "blowout" is subjective but I don't think a 14 point win is a blowout.
