Met and talked with a bunch of Eagle fans, and there wasn't a douche in the group! kalm is a freakin' Pimp of the first order!!!
I left the game with one question that I just couldn't figure out! What do you suppose the "FTG" that was on BLN's wrist band meant?

Mitchell isn't good enough to do well without a running threat. If he gets pressured, he can't hit the broad side of a barn.
I don't know, I wouldn't say he isn't good enough when pressured, because he showed he could hit players on the run at UW. I just think he is a "sketchy" QB. One play he's throwing the game winner, and the next he's throwing a pick 6 to loose it. Every time I'm watching him play...It drives me nuts because you don't know witch Bo showed up to play. The dude is just a damn roller coaster. Good example: 4th and goal on the 6inch line and almost throws a pick 6, if Montana took that to the house, the score would have been ugly. All he had to do was lob the damn ball up to the back of the end zone to the wide open tight end....but then again easier said than done

Right back at ya buddy! Missoula and WGS is a blast as always. Those were two pretty good teams that met yesterday. We rushed the ball good enough to win and played solid enough defense to win. Oh well...at least we've still got Swoop.Grizo406 wrote:Met and talked with a bunch of Eagle fans, and there wasn't a douche in the group! kalm is a freakin' Pimp of the first order!!!

Might have helped if your receivers could catch the ball looking back over their shoulder. Had two go right through their hands.................Griz receivers have had that problem off and on through the years.kalm wrote:Right back at ya buddy! Missoula and WGS is a blast as always. Re: EWU @ Montana
Here is my post game write up.
1st let me get my bitching out of the way....slow down the offense!!!! I do not have time to post, and keep up with egriz posts anymore. Hauck's offense was more egriz friendly. Just kidding, I like the fast pace, it sure causes fits for opponents. Enough joking, onto the game.
No doubt about it, the defense, rushing the ball, punting, and better special teams coverage won this game for the GRIZ. Sounds familiar doesn't it? I am not worried about McKnight. He got his stinker of a game out of the way.
Defense hit EWU hard, and confused them to no end. I was disappointed EWU had some good yards on the ground though, and we gave up some costly long runs. Again, our front 7 depth was huge. I was worried when Tripp went down, but man was glad to see J K shine, and step up. I now have more confidence in our depth. With the way the game turned out, the 1st half defensive stand may turn out to be "THE SWING" moment of the year. As it played out to end the half, that alone was a 4 point swing on the scoreboard. They got 3, when they should of had 7. If JJ does not force a pass, EWU does not even get that.
I was worried about our pass defense coming into this game. I am relieved we contained their passing game well, but a lot of that was due to BLM missing on a few too many passes. Roots is a very smart player. He knew he was at a physical disadvantage today, and rather than figthing for the ball, just knocked the ball out when WR's were trying to bring it in. Overall, JJ won his matchups. I do not see EWU's passing game struggling like they did against the GRIZ, very often. GRIZ pass Defense is good, but have the potential to be great. I think the GRIZ safeties are too green to become excellent this season, but definately improving every week.
Specials teams punting and coverage was great today. If Brody, had his normal game, it would have been an A+ day from special teams. Coverage teams contained much better, and did not give up costly field position, which was huge in a close game.
Offensively, JJ showed he is human, and give EWU credit, they did not let him find his game. Despite the passing game struggling, I still love watching JJ. He is fun to watch, even when he is off. He is a much better runner than I thought he would be. I love when he makes himself skinny, like a running back, and gets a few extra yards, after seeing a defender or 2 tackle air. He reminds me of Doug Flutie in his BC days. I do wonder why the GRIZ did not stick with slants, and hook routes? It looked to me EWU's scheme allowed for those routes. Then again, why change the defense when the offense does not take advantage of what is given? I hope the coaching staff sees that, and next week we see more of these routes. The GRIZ passing game will not struggle that much, very often. Good thing we ran the ball well.
Speaking of running the ball, this is the kind of game I wanted to see from the GRIZ offensively. Last week I posted, it would be nice to see more of an attitude in running the ball. Mission accomplished from this game today. Our OL can dominate running or passing the ball. It is nice to see the OL depth starting to develop too, but I hope Opperud is back healthy, asap. I hope the GRIZ will have enough faith in the running game to use it more to balance the passing game. This game did enough to make game planning against the GRIZ more difficult of D coordinators.
If the offense can add more slants, hooks, and utilize the middle 1/3 of the field better, this offense can get much better, and dangerous. Also, please, in a close game, keep the rotation of Moore and Canada. As fun and shifty Nguyen is, I fear the outcome every time he carries the ball. Let him work on his game when the game is more in hand.
I have a feeling the goal line stand will be huge in the final outcome of the season, let alone this game. It will go down as the biggest reason for a successful season this year. I honestly feel, EWU will only lose 1 more game this season, and would not be surprised to see them sweep rest the BSC season. Not bad mouthing MSU here, but EWU's defense is very good, and will make it difficult for MSU. I see EWU's offense as a very talented one too, and they will not struggle like they did this week. MSU and EWU will be a dog fight, but homefield will be enough next week at EWU. EWU is not dead, and will have a major say in this conference at year's end. I am glad we got them early.
As for the GRIZ, this GRIZ team is BACK as a contender.

Nice write up, Thanks.
These guys are seniors. They better improve and fast. Tully and Hermanson next season. They will get lot's of reps in 2011.I think the GRIZ safeties are too green to become excellent this season, but definately improving every week.

EWU is now relegated to curiosity status. Where was Bill Fette when you needed him?Grizalltheway wrote:Yeah, 300+ yards rushing was the result of blind luck.JBB wrote:EWU improved running game but still flawed. EWU = #15
UM gains little in the short term. They were not clearly superior. Good game to build on. Montana = #10
UM is now in a position to make a move but their rushing defense is certainly suspect.
Great game for two teams struggling.

I know. 0-3 leaves no room for error though and it should take more than a couple wins to get them back in it. If UM beats State their best hope is an at large and the MSU EWU game gets some traction.BlueHen86 wrote:Win 7 of their last 8 and they have a good shot at the playoffs. He "wasn't on" both from a passing standpoint and poor decision making as well. In the first qtr. I thought possibly it was early game jitters and trying too hard thus the poor accuracy, but it did not get better as the game went on.freebird wrote:Good football in the second half. Mitchell just wasn't on today.
The defense was AWESOME, but our offense has to score more than 1TD and 2 FG's if we are going to win a game this season. If Baldwin uses the reason for errant passes on his sprained ankle I will be wondering how long you stick with a player that is hurting the team due to his injury vs. another player at full potential?

Thought the Griz secondary did a great job of tackling EWU receivers pretty quickly when they caught a pass. Not much in the way of yards after catch.

I'm certainly reading alot of postings about the Eagle Offense and Mitchell having a bad game. Well how about some credit for that Griz Defense? Fantastic goal line stand. Interceptions. Rushing the passer and making him hurry and throw off his back foot all day long. Reason for the rushing success of Eastern was the aggressive rush the Griz put on. It created opportunities for the draw play. I maintain that the Eagles still have a good chance to go 8-3 in their remaining schedule. MSU will be tough but the Eagles are desperate right now and at home this next weekend. I think the eagles win by 10. Yes, give the Griz Defense the credit for this win. The rush, the LB's, the DB's all played really well and if Delaware had this Defense last January they'd be the defending champs.

This analysis applies across the board. When premier offenses stmble, it is usually because of defensive play.

Your D played well and was very aggressive but Mitchell flat out missed on several wide open throws and had a couple dropped that would have been big plays. It was there all day in the passing game, we just didnt execute. And if you've watched Mitchell much, you'll realize that he throws off his back foot a lot.ronbo wrote:I'm certainly reading alot of postings about the Eagle Offense and Mitchell having a bad game. That Delaware D finished the season giving up 11 ppg. If you guys are that good and JJ continues to improve than we can go ahead and give the conference title to you right now. But perhaps last year's EWU passing attack was really that good...
