The thing that is embarassing and distracting when you look at it - it's your signature. Specifically the part about 32 NC's, 114 All-Americans & 50 Olympians. Did you ever research that & see where those #'s come from? The majority, 80-90% of them come from one heckuva run your field hockey team had in the 90's and from a club sport - sailing. Heck, you're even counting multiple national championships in the same year with sailing, again a club sport, not sponsored by the NCAA. That's like a school saying they won multiple NC's in track because they won multiple events. In all seriousness congrats on the womens hoops NC in 1985, I didn't know ODU won that, impressive. However, if your name on this board is accurate & you graduated ODU in 2011, they won that NC exactly 4-5 years before you were born, which would make that a violation. All-Americans & Olympians? Again, save for Anne Donovan, it's littered with Sailing (club sport) and Field Hockey.
No, it's not like track. And you have to understand how the administration of championships works. It doesn't matter that it isn't NCAA if the NCAA does not administer championships in that sport. Women's basketball wasn't under NCAA until the early 1980's but they still crowned national champions. Moving on to the real reason why I am responding...... What do you think of Virginia Tech athletics. They have been around for over 100 years. Did you know that they do not have a single NC. In any sport? They tried to claim a championship in Bass Fishing a few years ago as their first, but that is truly a club "sport". Surprising? That's an example of how hard it is to win a NC. The fact that we have more than a few spread out in several sports is pretty good. That is all. ;)

QB - I'd give ODU an edge there, slight one. Donnelly is who I'd expect you'll see on Saturday. Not much of a running threat, really his 3rd game ever vs DeMarco's 3rd year but he is completing 80% of his throws.

RB - Decent edge for UD. AP had 1,600+ last year and hasn't been held under 100 so far this year. When he gets a blow David Hayes comes in - faster than AP & actually has a higher YPC so far. ODU brings a nice "two-headed monster" into the game to quote your local papers but they're not AP.

WR - Even. Both teams have some nice wideouts, Vaughan for ODU & White for UD being the top of the bunch. It seems that both squads have some depth there too.

OL - Big edge for UD. Veteran OL for UD littered with All-CAA & All-American honorees. Big aid for rushing success and keeping any heat off QB. Easily the best ODU will have ever faced.

DL - Even. ODU's DL has created some pressure on lesser opponents, and both teams have not allowed opponents to run the ball, save for Navy that can run on anyone in the country.

LB - Edge to UD. Worrillow is a big-time tackler & can get after it, Harrison is a 4-year starter. Wilkins & Williams are a decent pair too. The CAA is littered with big-time LB's.

DB - Even. Seems to be what both teams would worry most about. UD lost all 4 starters and looked shaky against WCU. ODU lost their best DB to injury earlier this year & looked shaky against Hampton.

ST - Edge to ODU. ODU's punter is All-America candidate. UD isn't shabby but does rugby style so don't look for any/many returns. Kickers seem to be about even

Summation: ODU has been looking to this for 3 years now, welcome to the CAA. You are a welcome addition to the league & I expect to be a good team for years to come. ODU isn't green either, 4 senior starters on both sides of the ball. The Monarchs have been very successful playing their competition from start-up to now. While ODU is shooting for respectability and a few wins this campaign, UD is shooting for a return deep into the FCS playoffs. UD represents the best team that ODU has faced to date since beginning football. AP and Gradkowski, Allard, Nagle & McDowell represent forces on the offensive side of the ball. That's not good news for an ODU defense that routinely has let up gaudy numbers to any respectable competition. Add to it that the game is in Newark where the Hens rarely lose.
Can't argue with that other than I need to see if AP is THAT good or if your line THAT good. I could not tell you if our backs are high quality or if our line was that much better than the opposition's D-line. The problem with our defense is our style. I don't know if the style reflects the talent though. We bend but don't give up the big one (I think CPoly was the only one to throw one over the top but then again we were getting a steady diet of the TripOp). Underneath passes can be had all day which is maddening for us. But I like to think we can play the run well. Who knows? Can't wait to find out.

I know where Athens is...I grew up in Bristol and live in Kingsport.

We've had a few of those talented athletes from the 757, amazingly enough, we still get some!!

But, we all know you can't exclusively recruit the 757 so all ODU has done is throw another competitor in the mix. If location was that big of an advantage, Norfolk State, Hampton and W&M would all be where ODU hopes to be.

Delaware 41 - Old Dominion 21
Whats so embarassing about taking pride in other ODU sports that isn't basketball and football? I don't care if those numbers are dominated from one or two sports. The fact is that those numbers represent ODU Athletics as a whole and include all championships, olympians, all-americans in every sport and I'm willing to bet that not one other CAA school comes close to matching them with the exception of WM and JMU. And of course I researched that, there's a whole section on the ODU sports website breaking it down by each sport. The fact is that if ODU has it I'm going to take pride in it. Do you realize you're criticizing someone for being passionate about something? Someone for having a tremendous amount of school spirit? I thought thats what college sports was all about. Also you're really gonna bring my age into it as well? Outside of Football and Lacrosse what has Delaware done in any sport? The fact is that ODU is pretty damn competitive in every sport it fields.

Anyway, I agree with most of you analysis of the game this saturday. The match-up I'll be looking at is ODU's defensive line vs. UD's offensive line, in particular Ronnie Cameron. A lot of people think Cameron has the potential to get drafted by the NFL and with his performances so far it's hard to have any doubts he won't get at least some chance to prove himself. Heck, Deron Mayo got a chance with the Broncos.

I'm really nervous about ODU's secondary. Even before TJ Cowart went out for the season with a wrist injury it was still a very weak position on the team and I think UDel will have a great amount of success throwing the ball and Donnelly will have a great game because my guess is that ODU will have to crowd the box and try to stop AP which will open up the passing game. Thats where I'll be watching the match-up in the trenches. ODU's defensive line is going to have a monster game because it literally starts and ends with that unit on the defensive side.

On the offensive side I'm feeling a little bit more confident. ODU has some great recievers including Gill, Evans, Vaughan and then like you already point out have a great 2 headed monster in Goodwyn and Harper. Maybe not this year but in the next few years I think those two are bound to have special careers in the CAA.

Special teams, I won't go into much detail because pretty much everybody already knows about Plisco and Brown. I'll just say that I'm concerned about the KO unit which has seemed to really struggled at times this year. If ODU allows them to start at around midfield consistently this will be a game where UD will score 50+ easily.

I will also throw in that I think this game will have some great coaching as well. Wilder seems to prepare his team well when playing on the road.

Yes, I have talked a great deal of smack but the point is that I'm not ignorant as well. I have a grasp of reality and the fact is that I still have a great amount of respect for the UDel program. I guess the only thing I was ignorant about is the fact that I thought this thread was just for some friendly banter but it has gotten a lot more hostile since.

No skirts allowed - you ruffle the feathers of the big boys on the block - stand back. UD isn't like W&M that you played last year - it's a different attitude. Football is our flagship sport, has been our flagship sport, will be our flagship sport. Hoops is a distraction between the playoffs & spring practice. Friendly banter, hostile banter, it can all be the same, you're young, you'll get used to it.

There's nothing friendly about this. It's pure unadulterated hate. If you haven't figure that out then you should go mess around with the VCU fans on their smelly, hippy message board, where it's all sunshine and buttercups.

Unlike my fellow ODU brother, I have absolutely no grasp on reality. We're ODU and you're Delaware...you're beneath us in everything and I have no reason to believe that football will be any different. When Saturday comes around, I'm just gonna sit back and relax, have a few shots, and watch ODU win this one running away (as if I even need to say that).

ODU destroys the chickens by 80...63 to -17.

Capacity is 22K+. We've averaged 18.5K in two games this year. I doubt ODU is bringing the extra 3.5K to fill up the Tub. Or are they? You tell me. How well do you travel?

No, they don't sellout their stadium anymore. Can't blame them though...tough to do when a large portion of your fanbase is dying of old age every year and their young alumni are apathetic to UD sports. And yes, I did some research and young Delaware alumni do in fact exist in real life. I know, I was stunned too.

I honestly have no idea, it all depends on whatever allotment UD's AD gives to ODU. I expect ODU to use that completely and then I think you'll see some random ODU fans here and there. It is definitely easier traveling to Newark then it is to Atlanta.
