the dakota big 3 is such a special rivalry that they dont even play each other this yr, it is too big, it would turn out like the raiders-9ers preseason game which had dozens of fights and 2 shootings. dakotas are some crazy mothers.
many do not know this outside of the lone state of dakota but there are actaully 4 teams in the big 3. north dakota state is the secret team that was added most recently due to a stadium upgrade.

So what you are telling me is, we have a legitimate 4 team BCS conference right there, ofc SDSU would need a dome.
I thought UND was the secret team of the Dakota Big 3 because we own the series of the other 3 schools!! We have trophies to prove it! Sitting Bull (UND-USD), and the Nickel Trophy (UND-NDSU). UND-SDSU never played for a trophy but NDSU-SDSU play for a road marker or something which I think NDSU has.
The Dakota Big 3 are: NDSU, SDSU and USD. These schools play in the same conferences. They play each other every year for the same traditional stakes they used to compete for in the NCC and earlier. They compete for conference titles, playoff spots and even national championships. Its all about carrying the past traditions and rivalries into the future. UND is no longer a part of that having moved out west someplace playing most of their games between 10PM & 1 AM local time.

I suppose everyone can have a Dakota Big 3. There is no harm in fooling around with the jokes. Officially the Dakota Big 3 are: NDSU, SDSU and Jr. member USD (still in transition but eligible for the Dakota College Football Championship if they play SDSU and NDSU.) The round-robin crowns the best college football team in the Dakota Territories. Currently NDSU has the Title!

National Championships....SDSU has never been in 1. USD has played once but in 1989, and NDSU hasn't seen it since 1990. If it wasn't for SDSU you guys would be in our conference...at least until the end of this season because you would be a team without a conference when we go to the Big Sky.

why isnt und and ndsu in the conf now and before? maybe ndsu cant bring to the table what und can. i do not know. i have been learning about und over the past 6 months but know nothing about ndsu.

A Big Sky Offical said NDSU was too good of a football program for the Big Sky. I wish NDSU had joined the Big Sky.
UND has been having all the problems with the name, the Tribes, The NCAA etc. The MVFC was never interested. That sealed the deal for UND. USD just did the faint, led UND into believing they were on board too, UND jumped at the offer and now they are out-a-here!

UND set enrollment records again this fall, and, for the first time in four years, it’s ahead of North Dakota State University.
The Grand Forks university reported today that it has a total of 14,697 students, an increase of 3.5 percent compared to the previous fall.
Its friendly rival in Fargo reported a total of 14,399 students, a decrease of 0.1 percent
Historically UND has been the larger of the state’s two flagship universities, but that changed under Chapman as NDSU strived to grow beyond its “cow college” reputation. He succeeded in closing the gap in the fall of 2007 when NDSU was 32 students short of tying UND, which had 12,559.
By the following fall NDSU was ahead by 481 with 13,229. The biggest gap was in fall 2009 when NDSU was ahead by 1,017.
Shortly after those numbers came out, Chapman was heavily criticized for overspending at his official residence and resigned. Since then, he’s also been criticized for using too many tuition waivers to raise enrollment and starting too many new programs.
This fall, NDSU raised tuition 8.8 percent after state lawmakers declined to give it as much money as it wanted.
The Dakota Big 3 is not about puffing your chest out. Its about tradition, competition and conference affiliation.
