There's a nice, clean, geographically concise 10 team league. 5 FCS. 5 FBS. :thumb:
Poor SUU.

Poor SUU.
Too far south...along with NAU.
PSU - too far West
If I could find a way to eliminate ISU I would...maybe by including Central Washngton?

Blech. WAY to FCS centric. Where's Nevada? San Diego State? Fresno State? I like the Mountain Division, but the Pacific Division needs serious work. Get rid of PSU, NAU and SUU and add in the above three teams and you might be onto something.

It is, but you know that Montana will get the AUTO. I wonder...how much would the SOS of the Ivy League go up if they included Montana....

I would like to see a conference develop as a second "Ivy" ... maybe a Southern Ivy conference ...

at the very least something along the lines of the Patriot League that takes in a lot of quality schools and would be great for the branding of the FCS. They would be required to send a team to the playoffs FYI. Can't be doing final exams now.

The New Patriot League (16 teams)

North Division:

Colgate, Lafayette, Bucknell, Villanova, Lehigh, Holy Cross, Stony Brook, Fordham

South Division:

Georgetown, Richmond, William & Mary, Davidson, Furman, Wofford, Presbyterian, Old Dominion

I would also consider Rice (FBS school) and a few other FCS teams.

I like Wildcat Ryan's a lot, especially since the Big SKy might be growing in the near future.

This is some bullshit! We're douchebags, not snobs. Didn't you see that top ten douchiest list a few weeks back?

I can sort of agree with the douche list. When I go to campus now, I see a ton of douchebags. It was filled more with down-to-earth alcoholics when I was there.

I took into account lacrosse- near and dear to many. This is a conference I could live with. Villanova is football and lacrosse only.

I know this is insane, but what if this realignment opens a door we didn't think possible? We know that there will be a few current BCS schools on the outside looking in if the BCS migrates to four 16-team conferences. What if that list includes Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State and maybe Baylor. I know the Big 12 leftovers are talking to the scared members of the Big East, but that lifeboat might turn out to be an unstable Frankenstein.

Back in the beginning, conferences formed between schools that were similar in mission and profile. The Ivy League is one of the few remaining that has held true to that model. As the decades passed, more and more conferences have abandoned the similar model in favor of the almighty dollar. The Pac and Big 10 are examples of this. Maybe it's time for some schools to go back to the old model.

Are Kansas State and Iowa State really that different from us? They're bigger; 20-25k vs 15k. They do more research; $125-225M vs $115M. But we have very similar missions. And we could hit 20k fairly easily if the state would actually support us. How about a conference core of ISU, KSU, NDSU, SDSU, maybe Kansas, maybe Missouri State, maybe the Montanas if they were interested(though I don't really like them for this), maybe Baylor. In effect, we're looking for land-grant and other research schools in the central US that aren't big enough for BCS football.

It's one of the things missing in the great plains. Most other parts of the country have a starter FBS conference; we're stuck a little too far west for the MAC and a little too far east for the WAC. Both the Big 10 and the Big 12 were unreachable. If the Big 12 breaks up, the fallout might create a non-BCS conference within our reach.

Odds? Way, way, way the heck small. But it's something to think about. We've been lucky to be in the right place at the right time several times since the DI move. Maybe it will happen again in five years or so.
