I dunno, 41-11 is pretty hard to refute.
Maybe we could come up with something a little snappier and more modern sounding?
UND and the bitches 3.

UND does not have more online students than students on campus. NDSU chose to increase enrollment without having the resources in place to accommodate them.UND can sustain their numbers right now because a larger number of UND's enrollment is online students. They are not having the housing and classroom space issues that NDSU has had.
NDSU was giving out more tuition waivers than the other 10 colleges in North Dakota combined.Tuition waivers are higher than what UND has given out but make no mistake UND gives out waivers to their grad students as well. I think a trade off would be the state funding UND gets for online only students that never step foot on ND soil. The waivers were high as NDSU started growing in hopes to attract higher quality grad students to lure in more lucrative research dollars. As NDSU became better established those waivers were to be reduced. NDSU did just recently make the Carnegie list of top research schools in the nation and I think that is a result of the grad programs that have benefited from the waivers. Making that list will help bring even more research dollars and students to the state.
There was no cut in funding. There was additional money in a bill before the legislature equity funding for all of the higher education institutions that did not pass. The legislature has been increasing money to the colleges and felt they had done enough without this bill. As a result NDSU went to the SBoHE with a request to increase tuition to 8.8%, which the SBoHE allowed begrudgingly. The legislature didn't like this one bit and called NDSU's president before committee and told him to count on no increase in funding next time around. They also pointed out that doing the real math, NDSU received only $551,676 less than what they had been counting on.You are completely wrong on the reason behind the 8.8% tuition increase. The increase was a result of the state legislature cutting NDSU's equity funding by $1.5 million at the very end of the 2011 session. NDSU was forced to make up that $1.5 million by increasing tuition 8.8% which breaks down to an average of $250 a student per year. That increase brought NDSU's tuition on par to what UND had already been charging their students. That means UND was charging more tuition than NDSU and were receiving $40 million more in state funding all the while NDSU had a larger enrollment and to this day still have a larger enrollment of students on campus.

UND has 20 programs, 9 for the men and 11 for the women. Go to http://www.FightingSioux.com and click on the teams button and remember that for Track and Field you have indoor and outdoor. I couldn't find the latest numbers for NDSU Team Makers, but in 2009, they were at $2.1M. In 2011 the Fighting Sioux Club was at $2.19M, so unless Team Makers significantly increased their support in the last two years, during a recession, I don't believe that they donate double that of the Fighting Sioux club.UND does in fact have a larger athletic budget than NDSU's. UND has two more athtletic programs than NDSU which are men's and women's hockey. That sport takes a large chunk of change to run correctly. One thing that isn't covered is booster donations which the last time I looked up NDSU's Team Makers were raising nearly double of what the Sioux Booster Club were raising annually. NDSU doesn't have to spend a fortune on the two hockey programs and has nearly the same budget as UND's if booster donations are included.

Its The DAKOTA BIG 3 celebrating the shared traditions of the major institutions of higher learning in North and South Dakota.
The real fun is the College Football Championship of the Dakotas!!!
The NDSU BISON are the reigning champs!!
Everyone outside of the Big 3 know who the REAL champion is.
Big 3 vs. UNI - 1-10 (only win was SDSU over UNI in 2009 at SDSU's homecoming)
UND vs. UNI - 1-0 (Yep, that is a 100% win% against UNI for UND)
By looking at these undeniable numbers...coupled with the fact that UND is 41-11 against the Dakota big 3...it's clear that UND is, indeed, not in the Dakota Big 3. They are a member of their own league....The Elite Dakota 1.

So DII UND can go to Nothern Iowa and win 35-31, but NDSU and SDSU on even ground goes to UNI and get spanked. Glad we are not in that group.clenz wrote:Since 2006AZGrizFan wrote:

The Dakota Big 3 are in annual competition with UNI. UND has its own problems with the "Dead in the Shed" Bowl coming up in a couple weeks. Sioux Falls should be a wonderful opponent for UND and appropriate for them as well, as are Black Hills state and the other down games.
Comomon heritage binds communites together. The coummunity of the Dakota Territories and the Big Dakota 3 is celebrating 100+ years of competition, conference and traditions.
Other schools and their bitches brag, belittle and whine because they want to be in the Dakota Big 3 but its a closed group. If you let schools like Minot State or Sioux Falls University in you would have to start looking at UND and other peer insititutionss like Bismarck Mary. No, none of those schools meet the critera of inclusion.
Just for speculative fun, Sioux Falls University could probably make the best claim for membership. They emobdy many of the traits necessary to make it into the exlusive Dakota Big 3 club. First and formost they are all Dakota. They have a conference in the Dakota time zone not 1 or 2 time zones west someplace. Sioux Falls will play anybody anywhere any time. They win big games. Just a few years back, the same season UND had the big moral upset victory over Texas Tech, Sioux Falls came into their house handed them a lopsided defeat in front of at least 5,000 fans, which is huge up there.
Can yuou imagine that! An NAIA team rolling over the powerhouse that beat UNI a while back, beat TT in a moral upset win, went toe-to-toe with Idaho twice, had the other big moral wins at Northern Ill & FSU. Thats the kind of spirit we want in the Dakota Big 3 and thats exactly what we have with NDSU, SDSU and USD.

Indeed that was a big day for USF when they defeated The Elite Dakota 1. It was a painful day for me as a fan of The Elite Dakota 1, but I did tip my hat to the Cougars of Sioux Falls. It was a huge day for them, not unlike the day App St. defeated one of the nation's other elite college football programs in the Wolverines of Michigan................

That was the lead-in game for The MIghty Dakota Land Grants the only members of the exclusive club at that time. It was the Jr Bowl early game before the spotlight game at Brookings, The Mighty Border Marker game which determined the best College Football Team in the Dakotas. SDSU won it that year. NDSU is the current reigning champion of the Dakotas.
What a day it was! Folks were laughing and celebrating the Border Marker game and then the news of the Jr. Bowl began to spread!

Celebrating heritage and carrying on the traditions is what makes The Dakota Big 3 THE Story in Dakota College Athletics. NDSU, SDSU and Jr. member in transition USD are all competing in the MVFC and the Summit. They are partners, allies and friends on and off the field. It is more than winning and losing. Its about community, respect, traditions and sharing.
There are a lot of good teams in the Dakotas. The Sioux Falls Cougars are one of them and UND is still good enough to play on the same field with them, although the 3 TD loss has a few folks wondering, but after the big moral upset victory at Fresno State UND should be ready for the Cougars. They also tore down Drake 16-0 so, This could be the Year!!

Re: THE DAKOTA BIG 3
No JBB this is the year of NDSU as they tore down the powerhouses of St. Francis, and Lafayette, and about to take on former National Champion Minnesota (former as in the 1920's) a huge powerhouse in the Big 10 as they beat powerhouse Miami (OH) last week. So NDSU will have played 3 huge games their SOS should be #1 in all DI. Let me know when you get thumped by your conference mates.JBB wrote:Celebrating heritage and carrying on the traditions is what makes The Dakota Big 3 THE Story in Dakota College Athletics. Re: THE DAKOTA BIG 3
NDSU beats the teams they put in front of them including Minnesota, Kansas, Ball State, Central Michigan, etc etc.
UND, a school from the extreme northeastern part of North Dakota, is not a member of the Dakota Big 3. Thats not to say they havent had their moments of glory down at Texas Tech, Northern Ill and most recently FSU. Those were all impressive moral wins for the squad from up in the frozen north. The "Cockriders" (proposed UND replacement name) came to play and made some people from the Dakotas proud I guess?
ODDS AND ENDS:
St Francis has the #16 offense in the FCS right now. Dakota Big 3 member The NDSU BISON has the #2 defense and held them to 3 pts.
The Pards put up about 40 on Penn last week. Good team that could beat Lehigh this season. Lehigh beat UNI in the playoffs last year at the UNI Dome.
Im not sure how Black Hills State or Montana Western have done so far. Sioux Falls held up well at McNeese. These should all be challenging, but winnable games for future BSC member UND and entertaining for the fans as they wait for the "Spotlight" Dakota Big 3 games.
USD is listed as a Dakota Big 3 Jr. member in transition because they do not start play in the MVFC until next season. They are however in their second full year of competition among the Dakota Big 3 members.
The expression "toe-to-toe with Idaho" came from UND head coach Chris "put the screws to the kids" Mussman when, after a 45-0 loss to the Vandals, which I predicted to a massive amount of self rightous criticism, he uttered the imortal words cementing the moral victory in history.

Good one Darell. Now lets get this back on topic.
I can see how upset the UND fans and their devoted lapdogs are about the exclusive nature of the Dakota Big 3. All I can do is ask for understanding. The Dakota Big 3 are united around higher principals. Principals that trump the mundane. Obviously that is why many of you, especially the UND folks, are having troubles with this Dakota Big 3 concept.
NDSU, SDSU and Jr. transition member USD share:
1) confernce affiliations in MVFC and Summit
2) 100+ years of cooperation and competition
3) Similar Dakota heritage
4) Common ancestory both for the institutions and their history and the people that have supported them over the 100+ yrs.
They are THE DAKOTA BIG 3!
Right now The NDSU BISON are the reigning champions of college football in the Dakotas. The BISON unseated the Jacks last season.
