Re: BREAKING: Big East Going for Navy and Air Force
I don't think that geographically makes sense for Air Force....I've read somewhere that the only reason they were not independent like the other service academies was because they were so isolated (to an extent of course) as opposed to Navy and Army being smack-dab in ACC/Big East/ Big 10 country. Their closest competitor is probably TCU

You shouldn't be. They were in Conference USA up until a few years ago and dropped out, in part because they didn't feel that they could compete. I would have been surprised if they did apply to the Big East.ODUalum11 wrote:I'm surprised that Army didn't apply....

Well I was just saying that considering the fact that the two other armed forces applied....BlueHen86 wrote:You shouldn't be. Re: BREAKING: Big East Going for Navy and Air Force
Why would that matter? The three schools have never been in the same football conference. If Army didn't think they could compete in C-USA, there is no reason for them to think they could "step up" and compete in a BCS conference. (I don't think the Big East is going to be that good, but it's still going to be better than C-USA).ODUalum11 wrote:Well I was just saying that considering the fact that the two other armed forces applied....BlueHen86 wrote:

There's actually one other service academy (maybe two). The Coast Guard Academy is D-III and plays in the New England Football Conference. They are 0-2. In their opener, they lost by a TD to the Merchant Marine Academy, which is probably the fifth service academy.ODUalum11 wrote:Well I was just saying that considering the fact that the two other armed forces applied....BlueHen86 wrote:

Having a grandpa that spent his life from 1919-1952 in the Navy...can't say I disagree...I'll also add that his service took his marbles from him.SuperHornet wrote:I'm an ex-nuke. That's what we do....SDHornet wrote: You are over thinking thi....nevermind....

I was doing a translation from a French copy of the Book of Life (a book designed for presentation of the Gospel) on my way to boot camp. THAT was confiscated, too. LOL.SDHornet wrote:Having a grandpa that spent his life from 1919-1952 in the Navy...can't say I disagree...I'll also add that his service took his marbles from him.SuperHornet wrote:

I don't mean they took his "books", I mean he put his life on the line and they also took his sanity. Having served on the large battleships through WWII, he was recalled for Korea for duty on a much smaller destroyer (or cruiser, not sure which) and had to leave behind his new born son. Needless to say it fucked him up pretty well. From accounts I have heard, he was never the same after his recall.SuperHornet wrote:I was doing a translation from a French copy of the Book of Life (a book designed for presentation of the Gospel) on my way to boot camp. Yeah, the service can do that to you. But we have our freedoms because of the sacrifices of good people like your grandpa. I hope he was properly honored for his service.

With the big schools leaving the Big East, Army should reconsider. I've always felt Army and Navy would be good fits in the Big East.

Re: BREAKING: Big East Going for Navy and Air Force
Army was 3-22 in conference their last three years in C-USA. If they couldn't compete in C-USA there is no reason to think they could hang in the Big East. From the Big East stand point, adding Army isn't likely to help them keep a BCS bid. It's not a good fit.Seahawks wrote:With the big schools leaving the Big East, Army should reconsider.
