This game is basically too close to call. We'll likely find out the Liberty game meant nothing in terms of evaluating JMU, and we'll find out similarly about W&M's game against New Haven.

James Laycock will have his team ready to play. Mickey's defense will get their licks in though.

I'd be betting the heavily on the under if it was available.

But since I have to make a prediction, W&M wins by about 40 points on their SAT and a late score with about 5 minutes to go. JMU turns the ball over one more time than the Tribe, and a shoots themselves in the foot during a crucial drive b/c of a procedural penalty or two.

I'm actually feeling this one. Dae'Quann Scott is emerging as one of the better running backs in FCS ... Justin Thorpe is starting to emerge as a leader ... and the JMU defense is finally going to master the new 4-3 scheme they adopted during the off-season. No lack of respect for WM or Grimes ... but starting a 3rd string walk-on QB makes their offense very one-dimensional.

I think JMU is hitting W&M at the right time. The Tribe will right their QB ship and will be tougher later on in the season.

That said, if JMU turns the ball over they way they did against CCSU, they lose, if they hold on to it like they did against Liberty, they win. Let's not forget that prior to the Liberty game, it was all doom and gloom for JMU...because of turnovers.

I'm thinking...

W&M QB Lang Campbell (the 2004 Payton Award winner) was a walk-on. JMU offered him a full ride but he opted for W'burg. The Tribe has a storied history turning walk-ons into elite FCS players. Our 4th string QB beat UNH at their place last season. I don't think it'll come down to Thorpe or Graham...the LBs will make the game (and, RBs by default). Last season, W&M's All-CAA MLB was out. He's a tackling machine so I'm hoping he'll help the Tribe defense hold Scott to under 100 yards. That won't be easy unless Scott can't cut on the wet surface.

Last years starter Mike Callahan was also a walk-on. Graham was a two-star prospect out of high school who was Central VA Off. POY by the Daily Progress, and a second team all-state pick behind Logan Thomas. Threw for 4600 yds and 47 TDs in high school. Originally from Florida, he comes from an athletic family. Dad played basketball at NC State, and older brother played hoops at Stony Brook.

JMU 24
WM 10

We are hoping that the QB change alters the offense so we are not so one dimensional. Will have to see over the next few weeks if that is the case.

Last yr JMU vs W&M:
0 of 1 passing, 0 yards.
48 rushes, 266 yds

Last night JMU vs W&M:
3 of 4 passing, 69 yds, 1 TD, 0 INT
56 rushes, 271 yds

Looks like W&M has the same problem as last yr- can't stop the run.

3 straight game for Dae'quan Scott over 100 yds- 26 carries, 112 yds. Thorpe had 14 for 89.

JMU held W&M to 37 net yds rushing on 34 carries. JMU came into the game minus both starting DTs:
-Nick Emmons- missed 1st 4 games
-Sean O'neil- season ending knee injury vs CCSU

At one point in the 3rd qtr both DTs who started vs W&M, Lamar Middleton & Jordan Stanton, were down. Middleton actually went down twice, once in the 3rd with a stinger, and once in the 4th, cramping, but came back each time the following series. Stanton hyper extended his elbow, did not return. So JMU played most of the 2nd half minus 3 of the 4 2 deep DTs, and played #3, #5, #6, and #7. Given this, I thought the defense did as well as they could vs the run. Also got 4 sacks, 2 by Middleton, who I thought had a great game, as he also led the team in tackles for the game with 8.

Hopefully between Emmons and Stanton at least one of them is back for UR.

JMU pass defense was stout the 1st half (W&M only had 64 total yds I think 1st half), but gave up a lot the 2nd half. Most of W&M's 215 yds passing came the 2nd half. JMU has got to tighten that up or Corp & company will have a huge game.
