What is the Mariners' parade route this year, GATW? The one right down the middle of Puget Sound?

Except they won't be opening with the Astros and Mets. Like I said, I hope you're right.

Note the title I gave this thread way back before the season started.

There isn't a team in baseball that wouldn't want to switch places with the Phils.

The Phils are the overwhelming favorite to win the WS.

Amaro built this team to win in October. 6 out of 7 games in a series would be pitched by guys name Halladay, Lee & Hamels. All guys that have had success in October.

Guys that need the rest right now are getting the rest.

This isn't a team that is new to October, this is the 5th year in a row, they're good & they'll dominate. Dominate. :tothehand:

Yup. The games are meaningless, the Phils already have home field through out the playoffs wrapped up.

Smacking about yesterday's losses would be like smacking about spring training games.

The Phils may also control the destiny of who their 1st round opponent will be. If there is a team playing worse than the Phils lately - it's the Braves. One game lead in the loss column over the Cards. Those games in ATL will be desperation time.

Still think the Phils' offense will be a post-season concern, especially against the good pitching staffs that they will see.

Also, the lineups of any of the AL contenders that the Phils may see in the World Series are deeper than any lineup the Phils have seen all season. Doubtful that their starters will breeze through the AL lineup the way they do routinely facing NL competition. Phils will need more innings from the bullpen in the World Series. At least the bullpen has performed at a higher level this season than might have been expected in April. Some young talent stepped up in the pen.

The offense definitely struggled down the stretch, with injuries at various times to Utley, Rollins, Howard, Polanco, Pence, etc.

But those guys should all be healthy come October and with the staff we have, how many runs does it take to win, really?

That being said, if Halladay or Lee were to get rocked early in a series, I'm not so certain that a tired-armed Hamels or a back-held-together with cortizone and crossed fingers Oswalt would make me start whistling Dixie.

No argument that the AL has some better lineups than the NL. The Phils didn't skip a beat though this year when they took a series from the RedSox though this year. Halladay & Lee are workhorses, the expectation is for them to go 8 or 9 every game, Hamels & Oswalt not as much.

That's why they play the games though.

It's not like guys like Halladay and Lee have had trouble with AL lineups to date. Both have AL Cy Young awards to their credits and Lee has been unittable against the AL in the playoffs. And all Hamels did was win the World Series MVP pitching against the AL. Sure, Oswalt may give up some runs, but if the worst I have to worry about is how many runs the 4th starter is going to give up, well then, that's a pretty good problem to have.

As for the offense, eh, nobody in the NL has a pitching staff that worries me, and from the AL Texas does worry me, as would having to face Verlander, but the other staffs are hittable.

The pitching staffs in the AL are way down this year too. Detroit - Verlander and nobody...New York - CC and pray for rain or Anova to carry you....Boston - are their starters allowed to see the 7th?

If the Phils don't right this ship soon, it will be three- and -out in the playoffs. Manuel's lineups are brain- numbing. They could finish with fewer than 100 wins. Unbelievable. :ohno:

Well, we're off the schneid with a 9-4 win over the Mutts. Halladay looked great, and the bats had some life. On to Atlanta for that 100th win!

I only want win #100 if it doesn't let the friggin' smokin' hot redbirds into the playoffs.

The Braves probably have a better shot starting the rookie Delgado that they do if they start Derek "Rob" Lowe. Phils have had trouble with rookies lately. But I sense that Bill Lee will get #100 tonight.

If he does and the Cards win, the Phils absolutely have to tank the last two.

Ivy - don't lose the faith, use your head, not your heart. This team is too good & when they all play (see yesterday) the results match the expectations.

All is fine, move along, nothing to see here.

It'd be fun to watch the Braves gag this week.

Thanks, Bill. I've reconsidered my fear of St. Louis. Their bullpen is horrendous, and I don't see Chris Carpenter or Kyle Lohse shutting out our #1 lineup.

Halladay and Lee are great pitchers, but it is just a fact that they will face deeper lineups, and work harder, if they make the series. The AL contenders pretty much have no easy outs in the lower spots in the lineup.

It's actually shaping up pretty good for the Phils. But if they don't make the series, it will be because some hot pitching shuts down their lineup, which is pretty average for a post-season contender.

Well, the couple of times they have fielded their regular lineup in September (which you can count on one hand) they've scored runs. They've looked good tonight against a desperate team.

Another thing is that they are shorting the regular starting pitchers a tad for rest. Lee was just pulled after six innings and 92 pitches.

Phils up 7-0 in the 9th. Cards just scored 5 in the 4th to tie their game at 5-5
