Joe Paterno
Enough's enough. He can barely climb the stairs to the press box. When does Penn State implement an exit strategy?

Re: Joe Paterno
That's your opinion. In the minds of many, he's earned the right to stick around as long as he wants. Plus, Penn State is generally winning. You don't kick out a coach while he's winning.DuckDuckGriz wrote:Enough's enough. He can barely climb the stairs to the press box. When does Penn State implement an exit strategy?
SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

I meant no disrespect to Paterno.

If you ask me, it seems like Joe Pa is just an icon, a figure head for the program and school right now. I'd be surprised if he's actually doing any coaching and/or recruiting.

As a Penn State alum and fan, I believe Joe should step down after this year. Really, he should have stepped down years ago.

he's having trouble with stairs, that's why it's taking so long for him to step down.....CitadelGrad wrote:As a Penn State alum and fan, I believe Joe should step down after this year. Really, he should have stepped down years ago.

Re: Joe Paterno
Paterno is no longer relevant. He is holding the Penn State program hostage and everyone around here knows it. This is a huge recruiting year for the Nits as there are a ton of 3-, 4- and some 5-star prospects in PA. Honestly, they're a hard team to watch nowadays.

except for what, 1 BCS year, they've been painful to watch since their last national championship.bluehenbillk wrote:Paterno is no longer relevant. Since their last national championship they've had an undefeated season and three Big Ten championships. '94 was the last team that was chock full of skill players and pretty exciting. I attended the Rose Bowl where they crushed Oregon and it was fun to watch.
Echoing BHBK, Paterno is no longer relevant. He gotta go. If I'm a recruit, I'm not impressed by a coach that asks to use the restroom as soon as he comes in my house.

Paterno no longer goes on the road to recruit. He meets with them on their official visits and Skypes in lieu of home visits. I shit you not.93henfan wrote:'94 was the last team that was chock full of skill players and pretty exciting. I attended the Rose Bowl where they crushed Oregon and it was fun to watch.

Re: Joe Paterno
I thought Coach Rob was gonna die on the sidelines at Gram, then I thought Bobby was gonna die on the sideline at Doak. I'm getting that feeling about JoePa now.
But I'll say this much about him, at least he's in the booth and not roaming the sidelines without headphones. Only to grab them in crucial situations like Bobby did.

He's the face of Penn State. Let's be honest, without him right now they would be just another university. Yes I know that he does very little coaching and actual recruiting, but he brings an aura to the program that no one else could come in and replace.

Still, it has to end at some point. What are they going to do once he croaks on the job, wheel him around with sunglasses Weekend at Bernie's style?Strommer10 wrote:He's the face of Penn State. This plus, if memory serves me right, they have never had a major infraction from the NCAA for their football team ever. They run it clean. Not saying I'm a fan because I really don't have much of an opinion on it other than he seems like a stand up guy and has worked his ass off for them.

Plus if he leaves than they have to hire someone they would actually have to pay.
They only pay him $1 million a year and he donates almost all of it back.
