If I can bash the man for a bad decision (the 51 yard FG) I can give him full credit for good decisions!

Pulling the redshirts off of Heineke and Lee was a BALLSY decision but it has really saved ODU in this game.

Wilder loves to gamble and boy has that gamble paid off!!

Yeah....that is what leads me to believe it is a serious injury. If it was minor, I think Ong would be in the game.

The fact that they pulled the redshirt off of Heineke means he probably will be playing more than 1 game.

TD true freshman Tyree Lee!!!!!!

The two true freshman, Lee and Heineke, have saved ODU's bacon in this game!

48-26 ODU!

The future is bright at ODU!!!! :thumb:
I saw the one injury to Goodwin...where's Harper? Did I miss that?

And Heinicke having his redshirt pulled may mean Ong looks elsewhere next season...

EDIT: And Angus Harper has a mild concussion.

ODU went up 25-0. Our QB and both running backs got injured. UMass took the lead 26-25. Coach Wilder took the redshirts off. Our freshmen back took their first snaps ever. And now it's 48-26 ODU!

But UMass just scored a touchdown. 48-33 ODU.

String together a few CAA wins and I will be impressed. With that said Id like to see Towson do it as well. Should be an interesting match up down in Norfolk in a few weeks. CAA>UMASS

ODU wins!!! 48-33!

Impressive win especially after we lost our starting running back and starting QB, gave up a 25-0 lead and manage to rally and win behind 2 freshman in the backfield!

Hope Demarco is ok but Heineke looks like the real deal!

What you just saw was a superior ODU coaching staff pulling our coaching staff's pants down and having them run laps around Foreman Field for 3 hours bare-ass naked. Nice that the players fought their way back to a lead, but as coaches you just can't fail any worse in a greater variety of areas than this. If this ends in the entire group getting canned (as it should), I'll thank ODU for finally putting an end to this fiasco hiring that every UMass fan hated immediately. Small price to pay for ending any more long term damage.

Look at the bright side, in the not too distant future you will be able to play Akron, Miami OH, and Eastern Michigan.

I have to agree with you.

The converted onside kick in the first quarter, the fake extra point that was converted for 2, the decision to pull the redshirts off our young guns and have them come in and save our ass*s.....the double reverse for 46 yards......Wilder made some impressive coaching decisions today.

The only one he got wrong all day in my opinion was the 51 yard field goal attempt in the cold and rain that came up woefully short.

Speaking of which, do you guys really not have a field goal kicker? How is that possible? Going for it on 4th and 17 from our 22 yard line is just complete insanity! Can you explain how that happens?

Words can't describe how ecstatic I am that ODU got its first conference win, especially against an opponent that is jumping to the FBS next year :D :notworthy: but it came at the expense of our starting QB and top 2 RB's getting injured. :wall:

Can someone please inform me on what happened to TD, Goodwyn, and Harper? TD with an ankle injury? Harper with a concussion? I did a major facepalm and almost fell out of my chair when I saw both Lee and Heineke in the game....was REALLY REALLY hoping we would have gotten 4 years of Heineke after Demarco graduates but I guess this is another "Welcome to the CAA" moment....unfortunately sh*t like this will probably continue to happen...we saw it happen to WM last year and then 'Nova this year.

TD and Goodwyn have ankle injuries. Harper had a "slight headache" after getting hit and I'm guessing they didn't want to take any risks, especially since it was a possible concussion and you don't wanna mess around when it involves the head/brain. I'm sure we'll find out more later tomorrow.

Does Goodwyn's injury look serious? I also thought I saw TD stay in the game after he hurt his ankle? Makes me want to believe that it can't be that serious. I also thought I heard Wilder say at halftime that TD was fine. :? Oh well, we'll have to listen to the press conference on Monday.

Amazing that in our wins so far this year we have scored 41, 40, 45, and 48 points.

We scored more points on umass than we did on Campbell, Hampton or ga state lol.

I think we will be competiting for a playoff bid by the end of this year if our offense can keep up this pace and our D can keep getting crucial stops.

We were only a few plays away from being 5-0 right now.

Congrats to ODU on their first CAA win

On a side note, Razor - I hope for everyone's sake that you watch these games alone and not with others. Your ups and downs while commenting on these games are like wild mood swings. My brother is very similar with his favorite pro teams and it's tough watch a game with him where his favorite team is playing.

My ups and downs coincided with a team going up 25-0 and giving up 26 straight points lol.

Who wouldn't be mad about that? Seriously???

I'm glad we rallied and got the win though, we were definitely the better team all game long as opposed to the Delaware game where we had the lead late but didn't play well at all to deserve it.

Our current kicker was supposed to be the backup this season, but in previous games he's looked like an adequate FCS kicker. Nothing special, but 2 for 2 from that range I think. Certainly the odds were much better than converting a 4th & 17 with a backup QB who looked petrified to find himself out on the field. The only explanation I can think of is that the clumsy PAT attempts caused flashbacks to the end of last season, when we abruptly lost all ability to complete the snap-hold-kick transaction after having a solid kicking game in the first 8 games.

I forget what the score was when the 51 yard FG was attempted. Not the call I would have made, but it didn't strike me as insane assuming your kicker has that range. I wish that was the worst special teams play we made. Let's see, we missed a PAT, got faked out on a PAT, had a punt blocked in our endzone, misplayed an onside kick, were offsides on our own onside kick, interfered with a fair catch, kicked off out of bounds, needed to call timeout to get into punt formation, and had the the usual flags on our returns. I think the only thing we forgot to do was fumble a return.

Am I correct that ODU runs the hurry up offense all the time, and anyone who spent even a few minutes reviewing film of ODU would have known to be prepared for that? All the previous times I've watched ODU, they've done that. "We don't know much about Old Dominion, so we're going to spend the week working on fundamentals" sounds like something our coaches would say. Wilder had every aspect of UMass prepared. He even knew our backup QB was a pee pants and switched to blitzing from the first snap he took. Taking risks to score early takes Hernandez out of the game. He had a plan and executed it. The only mistakes I saw were by individual ODU players, especially that INT near the end of the first half.

Sort of an interesting question, will ODU be ranked in the top 25 this week? Regardless of last week's loss to UDel on the road ODU was still getting a pretty good amount of votes and was just sitting outside the top 25 if I remember correctly. Will tonight's win against UMass push ODU into the top 25 for the first time in their program's short history?

Does this count as a conference W for ODU?

I'm actually not trolling for once on this. I know UMASS will have a conference record of 0-0 no matter how they do, and they aren't eligible for the playoffs....so do wins and losses count for the other team as conference games?

From CAAsports.com...
JMU 2-0 4-1
Maine 1-0 3-1
New Hampshire 1-0 3-1
Towson 1-0 3-1
Old Dominion 1-1 4-1
Delaware 1-1 3-2
William & Mary 1-1 3-2
Massachusetts 1-1 2-2
Rhode Island 0-1 1-3
Richmond 0-2 3-2
Villanova 0-2 1-4
I guess the CAA is still keeping track of UMass conference record but to answer your question, yes this does count as a conference win.
