Shortlist for Head Coach @ UMass
Shortlist for Head Coach @ UMass
Okay guys & gals..
Who is our new head coach next year? It's obvious that Morris is not the guy. I'm not a hater, but i don't see UMass winning the next 6 of 7 for him to keep his job. He's had too many chances with way too much talent...
My shortlist....discuss.
1. Sean McDonnell, UNH. What he has done with that program with the limited budget they have. I'm surprised he is still there.
2. Don Brown, second coming. Will he leave UConn as a dc and come back to UMass as a FBS head man?
3. Mark Whipple, second coming. Would he want it? Hasn't landed a FBS head coach job yet. Been close a few times.
4. Bobby Wilder, ODU. As much as that ass whipping hurt that ODU gave us, the guy has done a great job in a limited time there. Has ties to New England.
Also, get Liam Coen as our qb coach from URI. Would think Coen would love to be back at Umass coaching.

I don't pretend to know who it might be...but I'm 99.9% certain it won't be Morris...

What kind of salary are we talking about? That's a good place to start narrowing candidates from.

A dark horse for any DI job this year: Pete Rossomondo - New Haven
Of the Bob Ford pedigree and has done a great job at New Haven getting that squad back up (see the close game at William and Mary).
I am hoping he will replace Coach Ford at Albany in a few years, but I'm not sure someone else won't scoop him up in the meantime.

You can have Steve Mooshagian.
SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

Ill do it for $500,000 and a $750,000 early termination agreement.

UMass can absolutely not have Bobby Wilder. ....he's off limits. Also, I feel like he will not leave ODU's program until he is finished building that program.

Coach Mac would coach a start up Oyster River High program before he would coach at UMass

4 to 5 hundred K per year possibly and at the 1-A level?
He is at the top of my list. As an ex player who didn't even play for Mac, I would follow that guy into combat..

Re: Shortlist for Head Coach
Like our basketball coach, Wilder will not leave for a more compromising position. While a I-A job would be considered a step up, he is currently at a program where he has all the tools to be successful. Laycock has been at W&M forever, and while very successful, doesn't have half of the tools that Wilder does (credit to Laycock). If you are in a good situation, you have to evaluate everything to make a move. Can't just look at salary because that may not last long enough to make a difference. I just don't see the "advantage" that UMass might have over other teams in the MAC to make that jump. Salary comes into play when you are nearing the end of you coaching career. (Similar to Oliver Purnell leaving the basketball post at Clemson to take a high salary job at DePaul. He saw double the salary so now his finish line just got a lot closer).ODUalum11 wrote:UMass can absolutely not have Bobby Wilder. ....he's off limits. Kramer would probably jump at the chance to get out of Pokey...
