Gametime is at 1 pm Saturday and will obviously be the Monarchs first visit to Meade Stadium. Starting Quarterback Thomas Demarco will be 'available' on saturday.

Can anyone tell me about the Rams? They play Syracuse tough on the road and barely lose but then lose to Fordham if I remember correctly.

Re: Old Dominion @ Rhode Island
The common opponent is UMass, who defeated URI 36-27 at home on 9/17. You might glean a little from the stats. On paper UMASS was dominant. It appears that URI is a passing team, which may bode well for them vs ODU.

If it was at Foreman Field, I would give the edge to ODU. However, since the game is at Rhode Island, I think it is going to be real close.

I think Wilder will be a strong asset for ODU in preparing for this game (obvious, I know, but for other reasons). It's hard to really describe to players the dichotomy of venues in the CAA. If the players are thinking they're going to show up and get fired up by a rowdy/hostile crowd, they will be looking at a big letdown. It seems like this happens at least once a year to JMU. Last year at Maine we were coming off a big win over W&M and then almost completely pooed the bed going up to Maine. I think Wilder's northeast roots will help prepare them for this, but it's hard telling if it will be enough.
Rhode Island averaged 4,613 last year. ODU almost has as many people at one game as they had all of last year. It's hard to get fired up when you get out there and the free safety can hear the right tackle fart...I'll be interested to see how ODU responds.

Re: Old Dominion @ Rhode Island
Point taken. But that may be overcome by the fact that we played games at Campbell, Monmouth, Fordham, Jacksonville and Georgia St (Games at VMI and Hampton had decent crowds, although many were ODU fans). We are playing a lot of RS Freshman and True Freshmen who may perform better in a less hostile envionment. We have only Villanova and W&M left on the road after this. W&M will likely have the toughest road environment for us in 2011 if the Tribe are still alive then (last game of the season). Delaware will easily be the largest road crowd but I don't get the idea that the crowd was hostile, except for 93henfan. At that time, and understandably, I don't think Delaware fans took us seriously. If we win the next three, or even 2 of 3, we will have the attention of the W&M, JMU and UofR fans.mcveyrl wrote:I think Wilder will be a strong asset for ODU in preparing for this game (obvious, I know, but for other reasons). Games like this are like the stock market - past performance is not an indicator of future success. I was aware of those games when I posted, but I'm here to tell you there's something about the mental fight between the fact that it's a CAA game and you're looking at a Norview Middle School crowd...CAA Flagship wrote:Point taken. Trust me, the Delaware crowd is nasty to opposing teams. Especially behind their bench and the place where you come on and off the field.CAA Flagship wrote:Point taken. And too bad Northeastern dropped their programs. That place was quite the unique experience to have.

What do we know about Probst? He is big and plays with a knee brace yet reeled off two long TD runs last week. Highlights from the UMass game shows him throwing off of his back foot alot. Nervy in the pocket? Who has seen enough of him to break his game down?

Guess DeMarco may not be that healthy, just saw a tweet that said Heinecke is the starter this week. From what I saw on the UMass highlights that may be a good thing for ODU though - kid looked good on the highlights anyway.

Re: Old Dominion @ Rhode Island
The last I saw was that DeMarco may continue to be the placeholder for the kicks (I believe we had a bad hold on a missed 51 yarder last Saturday and Wilder will not want to take a chance). Little time for Heinicke to practice that while going through the 1st team reps. Heinicke looked good but that was just one game. He has above average footwork. I wish we were at full strength at the RB's. Any misfire in the running game will put a lot of pressure on the passing game.bluehenbillk wrote:Guess DeMarco may not be that healthy, just saw a tweet that said Heinecke is the starter this week.
