Chances San Diego becomes 14th BSC member?
What are the chances San Diego becomes the 14th member of the Big Sky conf?
I was on Sac State's site and they have this topic
http://www.bigskyfans.com/hornets/viewt ... f=4&t=1474
Talking about an interview with Doug Fullerton, and a preview saying the Sky wants 14 members and something about a new media deal coming soon.

There's a much better chance of a D-II that already gives scholarships moving up than USD ponying up for scholarships.JayJ79 wrote:does San Diego want to pony up for scholarships?

I think the Big Sky will see NDSU before we see San Diego.

So you are saying there is no chance of San Diego becoming the 14th member, because there is not a chance in H E double hockey sticks NDSU would become a Big Sky member. Not since UND became the 13th member.Darell1976 wrote:I think the Big Sky will see NDSU before we see San Diego.

utah valley and san diego going big sky is the equal to the chances of weber state going fbs. all are possible. none will happen.
Re: Chances San Diego becomes 14th BSC member?
Doubt USD will spring for the cash to make the move
NDSU in the sky
Just get Idaho to move down and you're all set, they can't compete where they are at anyways

They've been talking about it for a bit, but I'm not sure it's advanced past talk.BelgradeBobcat wrote:What are the chances of Utah Valley University adding football?
They'd be ideal if they added football. I'd also support adding them as a non-football member (they have a sizable arena, unlike some Big Sky schools).

Re: Chances San Diego becomes 14th BSC member?
uvu is good location but i dont think the state will let them have football is the rumor in the state of utah. their bball arena would be 2nd or 3rd best in basketball if they were big sky. utah cant even produce 3 good fbs or 2 good fcs regularly. there are no recruits in utah. not enough talent to even field the teams we have.Mvemjsunpx wrote:They've been talking about it for a bit, but I'm not sure it's advanced past talk.BelgradeBobcat wrote:What are the chances of Utah Valley University adding football?

i would guess weber and suu would block uvu football just like utah st blocked uvu from going wac over the summer.

Huh? I wasn't talking about NAU (unless they keep playing in Rolle). I was thinking PSU & Sac; their arenas are smaller than the main Missoula high schools'.mtjack wrote:Tell me how loud and cold it is in Missoula, again. Please!Mvemjsunpx wrote:

Re: Chances San Diego becomes 14th BSC member?
I would LOVE for USD to join, as they'd make a great travel partner for either NAU or Cow Poly.
There's just one problem with that scenario:
(Yes, I have another pet D-II I'd love to see us get. But you've all heard that one before, and I've been banned from mentioning their name. )
There's just one problem with that scenario:
If we don't go for USD, though, about all that's left within our footprint are a COUPLE of potential D-II callups, and that's probably not in the cards. The best one out there is likely Central Washington, but I've heard a few calling for Humboldt on the strength of their win over the Manure Pile. That said, I'm not sure EITHER is strong enough to warrant a call. The only D-IIs I'd truly consider are outside our footprint, which in and of it self is a big argument against: Grand Valley State and TX A&I. Of course, there's nothing to say that they're even interested, so the point is moot.AZGrizFan wrote:There's a much better chance of a D-II that already gives scholarships moving up than USD ponying up for scholarships.JayJ79 wrote:does San Diego want to pony up for scholarships?

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.
Re: Chances San Diego becomes 14th BSC member?
The Big Sky would only consider a school like USD if they were willing to go to the full 63 scholarships, which would also mean adding other women's sports. Don't see it happening. Also zero chance that CWU makes a move anytime soon. They'd need to invest millions in facilities in addition to football scholarships and women's sports.
Humboldt State might be the best bet if they are looking at a D-II school to move up.

Humboldt currently only has 11 scholarships, adding the required mens schollies to reach 63 and appropriate womens would not be financially feasible for Humboldt.EWURanger wrote:The Big Sky would only consider a school like USD if they were willing to go to the full 63 scholarships, which would also mean adding other women's sports. I wonder if Fullerton is waiting to see how WAC and Mtn West expansion unfolds, he might literally be looking at Idaho Maybe San Jose State

Actually, you want to know who I think will be joining soon?
Maybe as basketball only members first, but they have stated they have interest in creating football.

Re: Chances San Diego becomes 14th BSC member?
the big sky isnt going to expand beyond 13 if they have to go to DII, DIII or NAIA. they might already be regretting the expansion as it is. we really needed the other dakota to make the expansion a little more cost effective. san diego would be a good addition and automatic addition if they wanted to join our league.

According to that Hornet fan's post, Fullerton has said the Big Sky wants 14 members..........UVU is coming
Re: Chances San Diego becomes 14th BSC member?
Not if they don't add football. They need the 14th member to create two 7-team Divisions, and bring the total number of schools that participate in all sports to an even 12. I really don't see UVU adding football, as they have no suitable outdoor stadium, and I'm not sure Utah could support another Division I football team.Wildcat Ryan wrote:weberwildcat wrote:the big sky isnt going to expand beyond 13 if they have to go to DII, DIII or NAIA. they might already be regretting the expansion as it is. we really needed the other dakota to make the expansion a little more cost effective. san diego would be a good addition and automatic addition if they wanted to join our league.

If there are no suitable Division II prospects, then the best bet may indeed be to wait and see what happens in the WAC/MWC. Utah State will most likely get a MWC invite if anyone bolts that conference. NMSU I could see going Sun Belt, but not sure what San Jose and Idaho would do. They would not survive as an independent, as the only teams they can really afford to bring into the Kibbie Dome are FCS teams. Idaho belongs in the FCS anyway; their enrollment is now smaller than every Big Sky school and they reside in a small market. Even in a great season, the best they can hope for is to play in the Humanitarian Bowl. They could compete in the FCS and would resume all the old rivalries with Montana, EWU, ISU, etc. All that said, their BSU-envy seems to know no bounds and I could see them dropping football if they found themselves without a home.

Probably right. I suppose UVU could rent BYU's stadium or play at Rio Tinto Stadium where MLS's Real Salt Lake plays (it would'nt be the first groundshare between a Big Sky school and MLS).EWURanger wrote:Not if they don't add football. If Boise somehow gets into a BCS league (Big East or Big 12) I could see Idaho finally giving up the ghost and stop chasing them. But the Vandals would probably have to drop football for a few years before they could ever swallow their pride and come back to the Big Sky.

Re: Chances San Diego becomes 14th BSC member?
is fullerton in a hurry to get #14 or the big sky just wants that number eventually?
uvu sharing at byu will not happen. rio tinto is an idea but its about a 30-45 min drive from UVU. uvu campus isnt the best design for future expansion im not even sure if they have enough room. it is sort of set up like a big high school because it was a community college orginially from what i have heard. i have only been there for d league games so i cant confirm anything.
they have a nice baseball and basketball facility though. which are both shared with minor leagues - d league and single A baseball. they could pull a PSU i guess.
ive never heard any rumors in utah ever about uvu wanting or trying to get football so im clueless but dont think uvu is a real prospect. anyone utah people know anything? mike? wildcat? aj? wsuwaldo?
im not totally against uvu joining but i dont think utah can support 3 fcs programs unless being any good isnt a factor than the more the merrier. byu is against uvu being anything and utah st blocked them as a non football school in the wac which was pretty wack.
dixie st could be a more realistic school since they have football.
