oh come on now, it is sort of funny that a children's cartoon show ratings were better than a baseball playoff game.

Reminds me of an old joke i heard about the 2006 World Series.

If a team wins the World Series

And no one watched...

Did it really happen?

Honestly, I don't think the people who are watching care if people aren't watching it. I don't anyways :thumb:

Thing is, 2006 out-drew 2008 with Philly and TB, 2 eastern teams.

Kind of goes to show how "America's past time" is no longer baseball. Clearly Football IMO ratings would probably reflect that, whether it be College, NFL, or even both.

Fantasy Football to be specific. Without the fantasy football leagues, many people wouldn't watch the NFL

Makes sense, Spongebob is more entertaining than baseball. I watch the Phils, I don't like the sport enough to watch any other teams.

People shouldn't worry about ratings - this story is funny - but the ratings will never be so bad that the games aren't televised anymore. When I do watch a game, I don't worry about who else is watching.

Now, if Spongebob outdrew the NLCS in the Milwaukee and St. Louis markets, that would be news! ;)

Football was kicking baseball's ass even before fantasy became huge. Fantasy football didn't seriously take off until the internet. Football has been the national pastime, in my estimation, since the Steelers and Cowboys of the 70s.

You're all right. Football would be king with or without fantasy football. But Gil is right in that more people watch football because of fantasy football.

No doubt, I agree with what you say, though I've been playing Fantasy football since 1983. There are many, many people that watch a football game just to see their fantasy players play, that otherwise would care less. I'm old school, I enjoy a good baseball game.

Don't disagree with anything you said. Was just emphasizing that football overtook baseball (again in my estimation only) over three decades ago, if not earlier. I'd have to say the torch was passed somewhere between the 60s Yankees and the 70s Steelers/Cowboys showdowns along with MNF with Cosell, Dandy Don, etc.

Dallas pumping the America's team stuff, during that era, along with their cheerleaders didn't hurt.
