I heard a rumor, (key word rumor) that UVU had put money aside to start football and build a stadium if they got a conference invite, and they have expressed interest in the Big Sky, and I honestly think if the Big Sky invited UVU, the Wolverines would create football. It may take a few years, and that would have to be the prerequisite for them to join that they must in say like 3-5 years create football.

Going back to Mvem's post, just how big are the largest high school fields in Montana?! PSU has 18,500 seating.

He was talking about basketball arenas not football stadiums.
UVU's basketball arena (the UCCU Center) Holds 8,500 which would be the 2nd largest arena if they were in the Sky
Re: Chances San Diego becomes 14th BSC member?
I am ALL in favor of San Diego joining the Big Sky, just based upon the strength of what their cheerleaders and volleyball team must look like.

After last Saturday I don't think UC Davis would want Humboldt in the Big Sky.Green Cookie Monster wrote:Humboldt currently only has 11 scholarships, adding the required mens schollies to reach 63 and appropriate womens would not be financially feasible for Humboldt.EWURanger wrote:The Big Sky would only consider a school like USD if they were willing to go to the full 63 scholarships, which would also mean adding other women's sports. Don't see it happening. Also zero chance that CWU makes a move anytime soon. They'd need to invest millions in facilities in addition to football scholarships and women's sports.
Humboldt State might be the best bet if they are looking at a D-II school to move up.

USD would be a decent member of the Sky...Great?? No way. Yes, I'd love to travel to road games in San Diego. No offense to Montana or State fans, but October/November in Montana, or now North Dakota, isn't my idea of a "quality" vacation destination, but San Diego. Hmmm...I could get behind that idea.
Right now, I think it would be prudent to sit back and wait. There isn't any need to make anymore rash decisions. We all know that Fullerton wants to go to 14, but which school would be the best possible option? UVU is, at least, 5 or 6 years away from getting a football program, if in fact they are planning on one. Dixie is a decent DII, but would the former Rebels be the best choice for the Sky? Personally, I'm with Wildcat on this one, I think that last spot is being reserved for the a FBS drop down (Idahlol). In my opinion, USU, SJSU, LA Tech, and even NMSU have options, even if they are slim to being added to other conferences, Idahlol doesn't. We should start a campaing, to put our Vandal brothern at ease, to welcome them back to the Sky. "Road back to the Kibbie" perhaps?

Just to play devils advocate...if USD is being mentioned (another USD??), why isn't Drake a possibility. Could be a bridge between UNC and UND?

I was just being a smart ass, Mvenjsunpx. No offense intended. I poke fun at Griz fans being caught up with the noise and cold in Missoula as if it is the only loud and chilly sports town on the planet.
Yes, NAU is playing in Rolle Activity Center this year. Yes, Rolle is way too small of a venue. But if you've ever been to a basketball game in the Skydome you should be able to see why it's not a good venue for college hoops. Much too expansive. Limited noise generated no matter how many people show up. Rolle is far from optimal but at least it feels like a "basketball" arena...allbeit a high school or NAIA one.

I'd be OK with USDiego in the Sky as a football only, but then there would be an odd number of Olympic sports at 11. I agree that Fullerton is hoping for a WAC leftover. I also believe it would be Idalol if there ever was a shot at landing an FBS drop down. SJSU would be a good addition but a depleted MWC would probably pick them up if they needed a member due to a raid.
Bottom line is the UND add screwed everything up. How Fullerton didn't make the invites conditional on both Dakotas accepting an invite is just bad planning.

Don't be mad at the Big Sky be mad at the MVFC for giving USD an invite. USD was right behind UND until Douple and Patty tried to figure a way to f-ck the Big Sky and try to save the Summit League. Currently there was 10 teams in 2010, this season there is 10 with the addition of USD and the loss to Centenary. Next year there is 11 with the addition of Nebraska-Omaha and the loss to Southern Utah. Now if USD would have joined the BSC there would be 10 and now with Oral Roberts talking of leaving that would bring the number down to 9. I think the MVFC/Summit was doing what they could to boost the number of Summit teams (since that conference is just a revolving door anyway), in case their number got too low for a bid to The Dance.SDHornet wrote:This.Darell1976 wrote:After last Saturday I don't think UC Davis would want Humboldt in the Big Sky.

This is all correct. The only problem with adding the Toreros as an associate would be where the other sports go. The most logical thing would be to move everything to the Big West as Sac would like to do. Unfortunately, Dumb-Dumb Dennis has officially closed the Big West to expansion for the foreseeable future.SDHornet wrote:This.Darell1976 wrote:After last Saturday I don't think UC Davis would want Humboldt in the Big Sky.

I have a hard time believing ANY FBS school would drop, but I agree that Idaho and SJSU make the most sense, particularly if SJSU ALSO gets the Davis treatment. Idaho MAY want to do the same, but the Sky really makes more sense for them for all sports, especially if they can rekindle a rivalry with the Bungles.
Overall, you are 1000% correct with your last paragraph. Fullerton ought to be fired for that error.

How can you be mad at the MVFC? USD chose to accept that invite. Fullerton never made the invite as a package deal like the MVFC/Summit did with NDSU/SDSU. Now UND is on there own island and the Big Sky is left with the mistake.Darell1976 wrote:Don't be mad at the Big Sky be mad at the MVFC for giving USD an invite. Re: Chances San Diego becomes 14th BSC member?
The UND addition was definitely interesting, and really should have been conditional on USD joining the Sky, but it wasn't. Another Fullerton gaffe??? As fans of the Big Sky we all should be use to those. No matter, UND is now part of the Conference, and other than the extreme travel conditions, will end up, in the long run, as being a positive addition to the Sky.
Anyway, as for 14, I'm thinking Idahlol is an automatic. It is almost painful trying to watch them make FBS work for them.

That's why adding Drake (a school Iowa) would be a silly idea. Re: Chances San Diego becomes 14th BSC member?
Why is UND a mistake? Would it have been a mistake to have SDSU and NDSU in the Big Sky....remember when UNC joined how pissed the Rabbit and Bison fans were. Travel is the only downfall for the Big Sky..the ONLY downfall. At least UND doesn't have to travel far anymore than in the Great West (Texas, New Jersey). This way its just west of the plains, home to our recruiting area and alumni.Strommer10 wrote:How can you be mad at the MVFC? USD chose to accept that invite. Idaho - second to last in FBS attendance - 13,300 average. Only Kent state and EMU are worse.WSUWaldo wrote: Anyway, as for 14, I'm thinking Idahlol is an automatic. It is almost painful trying to watch them make FBS work for them.
That average would put them 25th in FCS for attendance
