You really can't compare records between division winners because of the unbalanced schedule.
Then how can you even compare records of teams within the same division since, with interleague play, every schedule is essentially unbalanced?
I agree that inter-league play can have that impact, although I think that impact is smaller than the impact of the unbalanced intra-league schedule.

The Giants are the Super Bowl Champions and the winner of the '07 Lombardi Trophy. I wouldn't call them World Champions.

On the other hand, there is a huge difference between a 16-game schedule in the NFL and the 162-game baseball schedule, too. With so many teams and so few games, the NFL regular season has been, certainly since the merger, really just an entry competition to the post-season tournament. It's not like the NFL of the olden era.
you can discount all you want a second place team winning the World Series, but the fact of the matter is, the Red Sox in 2004 beat the only teams with a better regular season record to win the World Series.

Both teams that had better records (Yankees and Cardinals) had their chance on the field against them, and both failed.

As for your bit about the Giants being rightfully the Super Bowl Champions but not World Champions... how is that any different... just because the NFL doesnt use World Champions in their championship name?

Truth be told, no World Series Champion is truly a World Champion are they? How many have gone on to beat a team from another major league from overseas?

The Red Sox of 2004 and any other wildcard team are LEGITIMATE WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS.

I said you could call them "World Series Champions."

Of course, whether they were LEGITIMATE (steroids, cough, cough) WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS* is another issue entirely.

no team in the steroid era was clean, so any champion in the era is as legitimate as any other...

I agree. Every title starting in 2001 through 2007 was tainted.

Nice try dingbat.
Unlike other MLB "eras," there is no defined start or end time to "the steroids era," though it is generally considered to have run from the late '80s through the late 2000s.

He did get more WS rings than anyone else in his division during that time. Just saying.
Which means he's theoretically better than Cashman, right?

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

Its easy to be a decent GM when you have the deepest wallet in professional sports to build a roster with. But have you noticed Cashman is in no apparent hurry to go elsewhere... he knows the success in New York has little to do with him and moving along will only prove it.
