It is 1345 miles from Sacramento to Norman, OK (Sac St @ OU), and it is 1381 from Sacramento to Grand Forks, ND. So whats the problem? The extra 36 miles? If travel was a problem why did Terry Wannless (former UND AD), schedule a game almost the same distance as Grand Forks??Green Laser wrote:The full schedule BSC schools on the West Coast are hurt the most by Fullerton's decision to accept North Dakota. I am sure the media is going to drill Fullerton after the first season of Big Sky play next season when the travel costs come in. Some schools (Montana, MSU, UNC) not that big a deal but UC Davis, Cal Poly, PSU and teams on the western edge of the conference it may become a little spendy. We need one of those super trains like China has that goes 500 mph. You can go across Montana in an hour.
Considering it's location North Dakota should be made to subsidize travel like Hawaii does.

- 1. We are getting probably at least $30k to play at Oklahoma for men’s hoops. Our games in UND will net no such cash amount.
2. I’m not happy with our men’s hoops scheduling philosophy as I feel there are plenty of regional programs we should be at least attempting to play before seeking a home and home with a UND or other far off places.
3. I know Wanless was the AD @ UND and his soft sport for UND has cost us plenty. I seriously question his alliance whenever conference or Sac State issues related to UND come up.
4. Travel, especially for Olympic sports are going to go through the roof. The BSC will now sponsor softball, so Sac State gets to move its program from a geographic friendly PCSC conference to a spread out, BSC footprint which is sure to have a large increase in travel. Plus other matchups in ND that require ridiculous travel. Given the budget situation in the state, incurring more costs due to travel is going to handcuff the AD budget.

Are you referring to the basketball game at OU? Simple we got paid to play there. Your remote location and lack of a major airport within a reasonable distance make it a major problem for the west coast teams.Darell1976 wrote:It is 1345 miles from Sacramento to Norman, OK (Sac St @ OU), and it is 1381 from Sacramento to Grand Forks, ND. Sacramento has no direct flight to OKC (20 miles north of Norman), so i see Sac-Salt Lake City-OKC, then drive to Norman. For Grand Forks you could go Sac to Minneapolis then fly Minneapolis to Grand Forks. Grand Forks is not remote. Sorry we don't have a clusterf-ck of planes in and out of this area like California, but its not like we are in the 1800's here. No covered wagon required. GF has flights to Minneapolis and MSP is a major hub in this area. Fargo which flies out west...even to Los Angeles is only a 1 hour drive up I-29. As for no money for going to GF...the experience is money enough.Green Laser wrote:Are you referring to the basketball game at OU? Simple we got paid to play there. Yes but the difference here is our trip to Oklahoma is a onetime only trip with a cash payment received for the game. The regular trips to UND require these multiple layovers and flight changes with no cash payment received on the other end. Stop comparing a money game travel situation with a travel situation for a distant and remote future conference member. It’s apples to coconuts.

UND will give Sac St some wheat and potatoes for their trip.SDHornet wrote:Yes but the difference here is our trip to Oklahoma is a onetime only trip with a cash payment received for the game. Well they won't have to since UND will be a BSC member, and that is the issue at hand. I wouldn't care about a trip to UND if it was a one time only money game agreement.Darell1976 wrote:UND will give Sac St some wheat and potatoes for their trip.SDHornet wrote:Yes but the difference here is our trip to Oklahoma is a onetime only trip with a cash payment received for the game. I am Fullerton will get an earfull from BSC presidents on travel expenses at the end of next season. As for UND fans it will be exciting to travel to more places out west especially to beat the cold here and enjoy sunny California!!SDHornet wrote:Well they won't have to since UND will be a BSC member, and that is the issue at hand. CP's probably screwed no matter what, but were I in SLO, I'd rather have the 5.5 hr drive to SD (with great weather) over the 9 hr drive to Humboldt (with crappy weather).CPAlum wrote:Humboldt State ! Screw San Diego

Back on topic,
I know you might enjoy the trips darell, but constant trips to CA, WA, ID, AZ, & UT will hurt the checkbook. This has already been said, but you don't get paid for these games like you trips to Idaho and Fresno St. The Big Sky is a great conference, but it's currently in a bad situation...Darell1976 wrote:I am Fullerton will get an earfull from BSC presidents on travel expenses at the end of next season. Re: Chances San Diego becomes 14th BSC member?
Since UND had no choice, it falls 100% on Fullerton telling UND its either all sports or no sports with the BSC, and UND and the Big Sky had no clue that the MVFC was going to counter UND joining with snagging USD. UND was about to join the Summit they had a visit all lined up which means invite but when the Big Sky said all sports (UND would have had NO home for football) they said NO to the Summit. So yeah travel is going to suck for some teams but others will enjoy the new scenery except in -30 weather in January.Strommer10 wrote:There are quite a few of us. We just get overshadowed by lakes. In no way am I saying it was UND's fault. If my school was in that situation, I would be glad to get into any stable/power conference. It all falls on Fullerton and the higher-ups of the BSC.Darell1976 wrote:Since UND had no choice, it falls 100% on Fullerton telling UND its either all sports or no sports with the BSC, and UND and the Big Sky had no clue that the MVFC was going to counter UND joining with snagging USD.
