If Towson and ODU get into the Playoffs...

Post by LastMinuteman »

If Towson and Old Dominion get to the FCS Playoffs, every single remaining CAA team will have made the playoffs at least once in the last 4 years.

Last Playoff Appearance
(departing/departed teams in parens)

2010: Delaware, New Hampshire, Villanova and William & Mary
2009: Richmond
2008: Maine and James Madison
2007: (Massachusetts)
2002: (Northeastern)
2001: (Hofstra)
1998: (UConn)
1994: (Boston University)
1985: (Rhode Island)
Never: Towson and Old Dominion

If Maine and JMU follow through on their strong starts and also make the playoffs, the longest dry spell in the CAA would be only two years.

Of course, even if this achievement happened, Georgia State would immediately ruin it.

That's quite the balance in a conference. No other conference can say this
For the strength of the Herd is the Bison and the strength of the Bison is the HERD
GO BISON!

Not as impressive but every MVFC team has made the playoffs, that said it has been a long time for both ISU Blue(1983) and MSU(1990). Things are looking promising for ISUB this year though.

2010: NDSU, UNI and WIU
2009: SDSU and SIU
2006: YSU and ISU Red

As of right now the MVFC is the only conference where every league member has reached the playoffs, of course USD joining next year will put an end to that.

Meh, we'll talk playoffs when and if we get there. This season has been outstanding so far and I'm just enjoyin' the ride. If we're in the post-season, awesome. If not, I think we're still on track to become a future FCS contender.

This.
"Elaine, you're from Baltimore, right?"
"Yes, well, Towson actually."

If they both make the playoffs it means that the Mayan calendar was off by a year.

ODU making the playoffs just got a whole lot harder since we choked against Towson this past weekend. It's the one game in the very short history that I was absolutely fed up after a loss. ODU needed to win to increase their chances because obviously they would have been 6-1 through their first 7 games and probably would have only needed 2 more wins in their final 4 games to make the playoffs. I realize 7 puts them on the bubble pretty solidly but with the CAA somewhat down this year I'm not sure if that will be enough. I think its gonna have to be 8. I think 7 wins is possible...Villanova is way down this year and Richmond is questionable, I just don't know if ODU will be able to defeat either JMU or WM.

You forgot to solidify that with the fact that Indiana State looks like a solid playoff team as well :o

8-3 and ODU is in. 7-4 and they are in trouble. They might make it, but a 2-3 finish and potentially no wins against any playoff teams might make put them behind some other 7-4 teams.

Exactly, I firmly believe 8 is the magic number. 7 is possible but then again ODU doesn't have a chance to play either Maine or UNH this year (probably the two best teams this year in the CAA) and ODU has a loss @ UDel...a win at UDel and I would have felt a lot more comfortable with ODU's chances if they are to finish with 7 wins.

I'm not sure a win over this years UD team would qualify as a quality win. I don't think the Hens are that good.

Something else about ODU's resume...

The cumulative record of ODU's past opponents is 16-17
The cumulative record of ODU's future opponents is 12-14

They are the only CAA team with cumulative losing records both behind them and ahead of them. (ODU's only win against a team with a winning record is UMass).

Towson, by contrast, is 18-16 past and 16-14 future

By the way...Villanova's past schedule is 22-14 and their future schedule is 17-8!!

which is exactly why I firmly believe that ODU needs to get to 8 wins to make the playoffs. Whereas with a team like Maine I believe could get in with 7 wins but they'll probably finish with more than that.
