TV deal. By adding Houston and SMU the Big East will have schools in two big Texas markets: Houston and Dallas.

Yea....SMU is invisible in Dallas. I wouldn't say the Big East will "be in that market". That's the heart of Big 12 country still.

I don't doubt that there are teams who would give a kidney to join the Big East - the problem is, those teams that are really excited about the chance would be teams that wouldn't help the Big East hold onto the BCS bid and would be teams that don't bring much of a marketplace impact. In short, they would get more from the Big East than the Big East would get from them.
That's going to be true of any team that the Big East brings in, unless tney convince Notre Dame to join, which isn't going to happen.

I don't think we can judge how interested any school is to join the Big East right now. I think most of what we are hearing and reading is just rumors.
And hence why the Big East is doomed. This is basically just the part of the flush where the water circles around the drain in the toilet. Eventually, it will start spinning lower and lower in the bowl until it all goes down the drain. There's nothing that can save the Big East right now. And oddly, increasing the exit fee and trying to play hardball with when Syracuse and Pitt can leave will probably just hasten the demise - who will want to sign up for a league that's clearly in its death throes that will try to fleece you when you leave? It was great while it lasted, and I'll miss Big East basketball, but the lights are being turned off and the doors are being locked - it's over.

It's only doomed if:
A) - they lose their BCS AQ
or
B) - the ACC, Big 10, Pac-12 and SEC expand to 16 and absorb many of the remaining Big East schools.

There is no guarantee that either A or B will happen.
