Lakes..shut up. The state of ND is meeting in 3 weeks (Nov. 7th) for a special session to repeal the bill that started this mess by Fargo resident and NDSU alumn Al Carlson. There is a bill that is going to be introduced by Grand Forks Senator Lonnie Laffen to repeal the law and allow UND to retire the name without interference especially from people who cheer for NDSU. You have a NDSU fan trying to keep the name and to knock UND out of athletics...and you have a GF Senator and Sioux fan trying to repeal the name. What a crazy world we live in.

There is/was a retirement comitee on how to handle the new name and when to select it. That law that passed to save the name set everything back so they will have to restart the process when the law is repealed. UND will just be UND for a while but IMO I can see a new name when we are official members of the Big Sky in July.

Why in the heck would Foolerton accept a football startup program, particularly one which is a glorified juco? A D-II callup in the right spot would make more sense. And that means San Diego, Humboldt, Central Washington, or the one in CO I've been forbidden from mentioning.

Of those four, Humboldt, Central Washington, and Colorado Mines have half the annual athletics budget of UVU, while San Diego has twice that budget (and one that is larger than all Big Sky schools).

Sen. Tim Mathern, D-Fargo, said today that he has a bill ready for the November special session of the Legislature that would repeal the UND Fighting Sioux nickname law adopted earlier this year.

Repeal would take effect on Dec. 1, according to the bill draft filed with the Legislative Council.

Mathern said he expects a repeal bill will pass.

“I think the general sentiment is yes, this will be repealed,” he said. “I think it will pass at a higher level in the Senate. It probably is going to be more difficult in the House, but I believe it will pass there as well.

Gotta make up money for building a huge-ass house for the president that went a million over budget plus the free tuition waivers to up enrollment. Begging the state to cover the cost didn't work out so they went to plan B..more student fees and a 8.8% tuition increase.
