Phillies Parade - 2012
Well, after watching all the football games this weekend, apparently the past baseball season has come to an end, so we can finally get around to planning the Phillies parade for next year that was delayed from this past season - and a good thing too, having the parade in the snow and the freezing temperatures would've been unfortunate - it was almost like a blessing in disguise that we had to postpone it a year.
So, getting down to business then, can the Phils handle their top priority and get Hamels signed to a long term deal before the season gets underway? Do the Nats sign Madson and keep him in the division? Does Rollins stay? What will Amaro pull off this year that no one will see coming? Should be a fun off-season as we get closer and closer to next year's parade. Should be a fun trip.

If the Phils let Madson walk, can Bastardo step into the closer role? Most didn't think Madson could do it until he did (see his frequent stints as the closer before last year and failing miserably) so it will be interesting to watch how that develops.

Basically, it says that a closer will be found through FA if Madson is not re-signed. We need to keep Bastardo to take care of those pesky lefty hitters in the 7th and 8th innings.
And I think it's safe to assume Hamels will be signed long term. We need to keep the top 3 together as long as possible!
Along with SS, the other question mark is 3B. If Amaro can somehow sign Aramis Ramirez, then that would solve the power needed to replace Ibanez and can be the 4 while Howard is out. Then Polanco could be used as a utility guy to give Utley and Ramirez a couple of days off during the year.
Just some thoughts.

Not all of us. I don't like the thread title. Bad karma. It's like putting a jersey on the statue of Billy Penn, looks cool, but then the team loses.JoltinJoe wrote:Phillies fans are so arrogant.

I just got back from the Phillies parade. The floats looked like snow plows and there weren't that many people there. Last years parade was better.CitadelGrad wrote:You forgot about delusional.JoltinJoe wrote:Phillies fans are so arrogant.

Re: Phillies Parade - 2012
I agree that some fans are arrogant and delusional, but all teams have them. The team is not going to be as strong as last year's, but it still has a great shot at the playoffs. Predicting the Phillies to win the whole thing next year is dangerous, especially seeing how this past season turned out. Let's all take a moment and remember what happened to the all star ESPN-named champion Red Sox.

Well, we had it for like 3 years in row, so it's not like it was foolproof.JoltinJoe wrote:BlueHen86 wrote:

Re: Phillies Parade - 2012
Of course it's dangerous - if you were actually betting and had the chance to pick the field or pick one particular team, even a very good one, you'd be silly not to pick the field. But if all you do is pick the easy odds then you might as well buy a jersey of every team out there (save the Orioles and the Pirates - neither have a prayer) and then put on the one that wins at the end. Not a very fulfilling way to be a fan and expensive when it gets down to the wardrobe costs.Seahawks08 wrote:I agree that some fans are arrogant and delusional, but all teams have them. Maybe it's a good omen, or maybe it's a curse:
Vegas installs Phillies as WS favorite for 2012 at 4-1 odds. Yankees next at 13-2.

Phils interested in signing Joe Nathan?
I know they need a closer... the Mets have been sniffing around him - but he's on the market.

I hope the Phils go after Madson. Not sure Bastardo is up to the closer role.

Re: Phillies Parade - 2012
People didn't think Madson was up for the closer role after being the closer off and on for two years before that (when Lidge was hurt) and blowing up in the 9th inning after being such a great 8th inning guy. Pitchers can change.Ivytalk wrote:I hope the Phils go after Madson. Not sure Bastardo is up to the closer role.

Re: Phillies Parade - 2012
But why would you want Bastardo as the closer? I would rather have him face tough left handed batters in the 7th and 8th innings unless there's another tough southpaw somewhere to scoop up.

Re: Phillies Parade - 2012
Nathan would be a good option. I don't think they'll be able to sign Madson. If Madson wanted to stay in Philly he wouldn't have retained Scott Boras as his agent, Madson wants top dollar and someone will offer him more than the Phils.TwinTownBisonFan wrote:Phils interested in signing Joe Nathan?

They can probably sign Nathan for 1 year, if so, he's a good risk.

Re: Phillies Parade - 2012
Welcome back Big Jim!
Jim Thome signed a one year deal with the Phils worth $1.25 million pending a physical.
I expect this is a bench move and maybe, highly doubt it, he can play some 1B this year while Howard is out.
Thank God he's back, I need to get his autograph lol.

I was just going to post this myself. This is a pleasant surprise for me, I didn't see it coming. I'm not sure how much Thome will help, but the price was right and it can't hurt to have a good guy in the locker room.Seahawks08 wrote:Welcome back Big Jim!

Now it's being rumored that Amaro is going after Michael Cuddyer. I would imagine he would play LF and some 3B to help keep Polanco healthy. If it happens, looks like Brown will either be stuck in AAA or traded.

Re: Phillies Parade - 2012
Philly will LOVE Cuddy. He's everything Phils fans love - gritty, clutch, willing to play anywhere, (white), good with fans and kids... Twins fans will be very unhappy to lose him, he's been an institution here for most of a decade (was one of the most hyped prospects in Twins history)Seahawks08 wrote:Now it's being rumored that Amaro is going after Michael Cuddyer. Cuddy looks up to Thome, and the chance to play with him again will be appealing - the chance to play for a WS ring would also be a very big deal... with the two of them there, it would be easy to bring in their buddy Joe Nathan to close - and as a guy who likes the Phils as my NL team... it would be equal parts sad and exciting to see three of my favorite Twins playing in Philly.
