Oh, and in case you hadn't noticed, the loud and cold thing has been tongue-in-cheek for quite a while now. Hell, I bet it was colder in Norfolk than Missoula on Saturday, anyway.

It was cold to me, I've been living in Florida the last twelve years. About midway through the 2nd quarter I had visions of hot coffee and chilli floating in front of me.Grizalltheway wrote:Oh, and in case you hadn't noticed, the loud and cold thing has been tongue-in-cheek for quite a while now. Somebody on the 'zone claimed that somebody threw a streamer at the ODU fans. They may have, but I dispute that it got there. If it did, we need to recruit that person to pitch.

Or maybe it's because the game was televised locally and it's and it's easier to discuss a game that you watched.ODUfanRazor wrote:You know why Delaware fans are on here talking about us? Because their own team is currently irrelevant in the CAA. They won't be making the playoffs and they will be watching first year CAA team ODU in the playoffs.
It hurts them quite a bit. Football is literally all they have at Delaware. Without that, they are nothing, and ODU has already passed them in football in only our first freaking year in the CAA.

That's funny you said that. I saw a yellow streamer go from around the 10 yard line to the 25 yard line in the stands. It traveled at about the same level of the seat it was thrown (straight across). All of the others just seemed to blow up and over the stands. Several collected near my tailgate spot which is right behind the visitor section.mcveyrl wrote:Yep. Re: James Madison at Old Dominion
This was the only game I got to watch on Saturday. We lost power shorlty after the game ended.
Anyway, it was clear that the injuries affected JMU in the second half, but injuries are no excuse. ODU won because they made plays in the second half and JMU didn't.
I've seen ODU on TV twice now and they are a solid team, definitely better than I expected pre season. At 7-2, with 7 D-I wins they are already playoff eligible and have a good chance to win their last two and finish 9-2. They might open the playoffs at home.

Re: James Madison at Old Dominion
Wins and losses aside, I believe it is now clear that the ODU fans were not full of crap when we were saying that we should be able to compete in year 1 of CAA play. We know we played weak competition those first two years, but the things we did on the field were that of a quality team despite the competition. I always claimed that the experience that our juniors and sophomores gained over the last two years would offset the more talented juniors and seniors we would face that did not have a lot of game experience. Yes, the CAA does not seem to have three or four very dominant teams as in recent years. That is helping our success this year. But it's good to see people recognizing what we have been seeing the last couple of years. We have decent talent and coaching and can compete in this league. With 11 true freshman playing this year combined with the redshirt freshmen and the success we have had, I think it is safe to say we should have a decent recruiting class and will remain competitive in the near future.BlueHen86 wrote:This was the only game I got to watch on Saturday. Re: James Madison at Old Dominion
I expected ODU to finish around 5-6, 2-6 in conference, which wouldn't have been terrible. I'm not shocked by 7-2 though, it didn't take Andy Talley that long to make Villanova a winner. The learning curve isn't as steep as some people think, certainly not like starting an NFL expansion team. ODU players probably have as much football experience as their opponents, and they seem to have good coaching. There is no reason that ODU can't be one of the top CAA teams and a playoff contender every year. It's no guarantee at this point either, but ODU look to be on the right path.CAA Flagship wrote:Wins and losses aside, I believe it is now clear that the ODU fans were not full of crap when we were saying that we should be able to compete in year 1 of CAA play. I think the CAA in a down year is a significant reason for ODU's success as well...all of ODU's wins so far are against very average or mediocre teams...Villanova and Rhode Island are mediocre, UMass is average and really not playing for anything this year...JMU might be the one team out of the 4 that is on the line of being a GREAT team.BlueHen86 wrote:I expected ODU to finish around 5-6, 2-6 in conference, which wouldn't have been terrible. The CAA may be upside down (who'd have thought that UD's biggest wins this year would be Towson and ODU ), but I don't know if it's down. We won't find that out until December.ODUalum11 wrote:I think the CAA in a down year is a significant reason for ODU's success as well...all of ODU's wins so far are against very average or mediocre teams...Villanova and Rhode Island are mediocre, UMass is average and really not playing for anything this year...JMU might be the one team out of the 4 that is on the line of being a GREAT team.BlueHen86 wrote:

well yeah, this could all change if Maine, Towson, and UNH all make long runs in the playoffs. FWIW, I also believe as whole the FCS is down this year as well.BlueHen86 wrote:The CAA may be upside down (who'd have thought that UD's biggest wins this year would be Towson and ODU ), but I don't know if it's down. So ODU was missing 5 starters you listed. JMU was missing 7 by the end of the 3rd qtr:ODUalum11 wrote: injuries are part of the game, ODU today was without 2 starters in their secondary (Cowart and Lewis), 1 starting defensive linemen (Turner), starting QB (Demarco, although I think its been proven our back-up is actually better), starting running back (Crawford). Also I think at one point in the game ODU had three defensive walk-ons on one side of the field. I'm not saying ODU would have or would not have won the game because of the injuries to those JMU starters today but thats not to say ODU hasn't been hit with the injury bug as well.
-Thorpe at QB
-Scott at RB
-3 OL
-both DTs lost for season games 2 and 5.
That is to the 1st week. Go back to the summer make it 9 starters:
-a 4th OL, Scott Jones, returning starter, missed all of Spring-early Oct. Had been back practicing 3 weeks prior to ODU game, didn't dress last Sat. Hope he can play vs UNH.
-returning starting WR Quintin Hunter, 4 star transfer from UVA, played as a true FR there 09', started last yr JMU, torn achilles Spring, redshirt.

Last time I checked, a team is made of the starters and backups. ODU won. JMU lost. Time to move on...

Re: James Madison at Old Dominion
JMU was the better team the first half. Just like ODU was the better team against Towson for 56-1/2 minutes. I do think JMU gets a gift by playing this game as the last game of the season from here on. Although, lately JMU does seem to start hot and fizzle towards the end of the season.
I was working on my excuses during the 1st half, when we were down 6 points.
JMU had a bye week to prepare and get the team ready to play
The bad weather always hurts passing teams
We been saddled with injuries this year on the DL, in the back field, in the secondary and playing with our 3rd string QB
The Bookies were right
They have a National Championship Coach
We are who they thought we were
They been playing football for 40 years
The CAA is tougher than we ever dreamed and we'll need ten years to get there
Good defense wins games
If football was easy, VCU could do it
We are just a 3rd year team and we're just too young
It was a moral victory and we had the lead in the 1st Qtr
I'm still very proud of the team, the coaches and how they handled themselves

Um, it's actually usually the opposite. I don't have the exact stats in front of me, but we're pretty good in November the last few years...DaBigBlue wrote:JMU was the better team the first half. Odu will qualify for and make the NCAA playoffs in 3 of it's 4 fall sports (mens soccer, field hockey, football).
How many will Delaware make? 1? 0?
Ok then.

Not a single Delaware poster i've come across has been interesting, intelligent, funny or informed.

You've now denegrated odu's success on three different boards. Odu fans are really quite sick of reading your garbage posts. You've said you think we are going to lose to Richmond and possibly miss the playoffs several times and then you said the only reason we are succeeding is because the caa is down.
Maybe you should consider switching your allegiance to Delaware since you seem to like their fans so much and dislike odu as much as they do.

ODUAlum is one of the best ODU fans I know. Rarely missed a basketball game, made the basketball trip to VCU and the CAA Tournament every year while in school (along with many other road trips), went to all the football games, saw him countless times at soccer/field hockey/baseball (more than most students went) cheered like crazy, and was a Monarch Maniac captain...
