Re: Last teams in
Nobody knows how the Committee will play it this year. I feel safe in saying the MEAC will not get 2 bids.
I can't see any justification (i.e., 'signature wins') for the OVC to get 2 bids. I'm having a hard time getting 3 out of the MVC even though InSU beat WK - beating NDSU would make me feel a lot better about them. If they 'lose bad' they will have gone 1-3 over the past month and the shine will be off that bloom. Youngstown has to win at either UNI or NDSU to get in so the playoffs are really starting for them over the next 2 weeks.
So a team with fewer than seven wins in Division I play “MAY place themselves in jeopardy of being selected.”
I think UD with an FBS game and wins against ODU, W&M & Towson looks good against a 7-4 MVC at this point (even though some UD guys are being douche-nozzles in another thread). I don't think it hurts them against ODU (even at 8-3 without a win against W&M) - one non-D1 game versus Campbell, GaSt and Hampton in SoS? Fuggitaboudit - LOL.
Where it really hurts them is if the final slot comes down between the Hens and JMU each at 7-4 and each with 3 significant wins. They'll lose that every time.

Even at 16 teams, when was the last time an 8 D1 win team from the CAA was left out?

Wait....What? Throw out the Navy game. You think West Chester and Delaware St is not a much weaker schedule than Campbell, GaSt and Hampton?Aho Old Guy wrote: I don't think it hurts them against ODU (even at 8-3 without a win against W&M) - one non-D1 game versus Campbell, GaSt and Hampton in SoS? ODU is a mortal lock at 8-3.

Read it again. It took me a few times to figure out what he was saying. The "non-D1" reference is towards WC.89Hen wrote:BTW, isn't Campbell DI?
Re: Last teams in
Okay, what happens in the Southland if UCA wins their last two games and finishes at 8-3 with a loss to Sam Houston and two losses to FBS teams (and one of those an overtime loss to La. Tech)?
Or if Northwestern St. would win out and finish at 8-3 beating Sam Houston (possible but not probable) and getting the auto-bid?

Re: Last teams in
Either would result in two Southland teams getting in IMO. But I don't think NSU will beat SHSU so the best chance for a second Soutland team lies in UCA beating NSU.McNeese72 wrote:Okay, what happens in the Southland if UCA wins their last two games and finishes at 8-3 with a loss to Sam Houston and two losses to FBS teams (and one of those an overtime loss to La. And therein lies the problem. I'm not propping up West Chester as anything but a mediocre D2 team, but they'd probably give Campbell a run for their money. They were certainly better than DelSt this year. Fortunately for UD we won't have this issue in a couple years, but other teams will continue to have the same issue (especially out your way where D1 teams are more scarce).AZGrizFan wrote:The're a DINO. Nope. NCAA will NOT take a third place team from a conference that won't send it's champ. Period, end of story.bluehenbillk wrote:OK I read through the entire thread & see an omission. I think a SWAC team could make it.

Re: Last teams in
Yea but that's the problem 89. I understand what you're saying - but the way the committee has observed it in the past is the D-1 vs the D-2 label. A FCS school could play Grand Valley St, which would probably be a Top 20 FCS school and not get credit b/c they're D-2 versus another FCS school could schedule a PFL non-scholly team and they do get credit for the D-1 win.89Hen wrote:And therein lies the problem. It doesn't make sense but all the schools know the rules coming in.

OK. Let's go back. Why did you ask about Campbell? Was it because of Aho Old Guy's post?89Hen wrote:Not following.CAA Flagship wrote: Read it again. It took me a few times to figure out what he was saying. The "non-D1" reference is towards WC.

Well, as I said earlier, we all knew the "rule" against a conference having more than three teams in the field prior to 2003. And if ever there was a "rule" to be broken...bluehenbillk wrote:Yea but that's the problem 89. The NCAA even bolds the word MAY in their book.The won-lost record of a team will be scrutinized to determine a team’s strength of schedule; however, less than seven Division I wins may place a team in jeopardy of not being selected;

Substitute "West Chester" for "one non-D1" and you will see what he meant. Then read my Wait.....What? comment.

If Furman beats App. State there's a 95% chance they will finish 7-4 which means they will get in.

7.009%. Which, when multiplied by the 95% means they have a 6.93% chance of getting in.89Hen wrote:What is the chance they will beat AppSt?Pwns wrote:If Furman beats App. State there's a 95% chance they will finish 7-4 which means they will get in.
