Definitely pulling for G-Town in that game, mostly to see that TheFan douche on AGS go into a full-blown meltdown.∞∞∞ wrote:Don't really talk about 'em much, but I'm also a Georgetown fan...so it's really exciting to entertain the prospect that both the teams I love might be in the playoffs this season (of course that pesky Lehigh team still stands in the way).

If the past is any indication, Georgetown will get snubbed, as I really don't see two PL teams getting in.

Oh I know. There's absolutely no chance Georgetown gets an at-large, but the auto-bid...well there's a chance...EWURanger wrote:If the past is any indication, Georgetown will get snubbed, as I really don't see two PL teams getting in.

True. The Big Sky bubble teams didn't do themselves any favors this year, though by beating up on each other. Unfortunately for the Big Sky, we are top heavy with UM and MSU this season just like we were with EWU and MSU in 2010. But instead of Montana being the guys left out last season with only 6 Division I wins, I think we will win our last two games and be in the same position as the Griz were last year.AZGrizFan wrote:The day the PL gets as many teams in as the BSC is the day I switch to FBS football.EWURanger wrote:If the past is any indication, Georgetown will get snubbed, as I really don't see two PL teams getting in.

If it comes down to Georgetown or 7 win teams from MEAC or Northeast or a 6 win team, Georgetown should get in and it very well could come to that.EWURanger wrote:If the past is any indication, Georgetown will get snubbed, as I really don't see two PL teams getting in.

Its likely to come down to Georgetown versus a 9-win Duquesne team.UNHWildCats wrote:If it comes down to Georgetown or 7 win teams from MEAC or Northeast or a 6 win team, Georgetown should get in and it very well could come to that.EWURanger wrote:If the past is any indication, Georgetown will get snubbed, as I really don't see two PL teams getting in.
Duquesne would get in before Georgetown in that case.

Sagarin ranks Georgetown 42 and Duquesne 64
Sagarin ranks Duquesne's best win as Bryant who is ranked #75. Georgetown has its best win against Holy Cross ranked #41.
Duquesne's second best win is against #88 Monmouth while Georgetown has 3 additional wins better than that with #s 67, 84, 87.
Duquesne has 6 wins against teams ranked between 105 and 125 while Georgetown has 3 wins against teams ranked worse that 105.
An 8-3 Georgetown gets in before a 9-2 Duquesne in my opinion.

No they shouldn't. Georgetown absolutely does not belong in the playoffs without an autobid. I mean seriously. There will be several six win teams from real conferences that will be more deserving, and the six win rule is a rule of thumb, not an actual rule. It was written before they decided to expand the field. A 7-4 Montana team got waxed by the rule of thumb last year, but that was also a stronger year of FCS football. This year is way down.UNHWildCats wrote:And what a 2nd team from the MEAC or Northeast is more deserving? Or a Pioneer team?93henfan wrote:

Seriously. Look at Georgetown's schedule. It's some of the weakest shit you'll ever see. If a coach didn't get eight wins with that schedule, he should be fired immediately.

if the committee finally looks beyong the 7 win guideline then Georgetown doesnt get in, but if the committee holds steady with the guideline, Georgetown gets in if JMU or Indiana State fails to get 7 wins.93henfan wrote:There will be several six win teams from real conferences that will be more deserving, and the six win rule is a rule of thumb, not an actual rule. Re: My Playoff Field 11-7-11
There are several teams from the power conferences that could potentially finish with 6 Division I wins. Portland State and Eastern Washington from the Big Sky + Cal-Poly.....Indiana State from the MVFC, Delaware and JMU from the CAA, etc.
Realistically, any one of those teams would probably destroy any number 2 team from the Patriot, MEAC, Pioneer, etc........but the thing is, you have to draw the line somewhere. I'd be highly surprised if the committee went away from the 7 Division I win criteria.

Re: My Playoff Field 11-7-11
If the committee looks past the seven win guideline, I think Portland State will have the strongest chance of making it, losing only to two top ten teams (MSU, UM) and TCU. They just effed themselves with two non-qualifiers. If they had played another FCS team, they would be in guaranteed. To bad. Nigel Burton has a real good thing going down here (Montana transplant in Portland) and if he can just get fans to the games they may become a Big Sky Power. I still think they have a shot this year though, if the committee ignores the 7 D1 win minimum.UNHWildCats wrote:if the committee finally looks beyong the 7 win guideline then Georgetown doesnt get in, but if the committee holds steady with the guideline, Georgetown gets in if JMU or Indiana State fails to get 7 wins.93henfan wrote:

Re: My Playoff Field 11-7-11
I don't think there is any way EWU makes it this year, I wish they had a better season. If you guys win out, you will have the same record as PSU, but you will have lost to them, and you will have started 0-4. Eastern Washington just isn't good this year. After an insane 2010 everyone figured you out.EWURanger wrote:There are several teams from the power conferences that could potentially finish with 6 Division I wins. My Playoff Field 11-7-11
We're not good this year, but is doesn't really have anything to do with anyone figuring us out. We have lost 7 players on offense and 6 on defense. 8 players out for the season, 3 of them All-Americans. Our offensive line was decimated by week 3. At one point we had lost our 1st, 2nd, and 3rd string centers and were using a converted TE to play that position. I don't care who you are, any team that loses that many key players is going to struggle.GrizMonster wrote:I don't think there is any way EWU makes it this year, I wish they had a better season. Despite all that, we still won 4 straight games before losing to PSU and still lead the FCS in passing.

I heard from a friend of a friend, that there was a time when the top 2 FBS teams played against each other on prime time TV, and the game went into overtime to decide the victor. The only problem was that no touchdowns were scored. Only field goals. And the team that lost missed something like 4 field goals. But if you had watched SportsCenter the next day, you would have thought that was the game of the century.
I strongly suggest switching to one of the following instead of FBS football:

Middle School Football
Youth Football
Austrailian Rules Football
Men's Collegiate Volleyball

Any reason you guys are choosing to ignore Central Arkansas?
If they beat Texas St. this weekend, they will have an 8-3 record with 7 Div I wins. They will have a 7 game winning streak and would not have lost since the fourth game of the season.
Their losses will have been an overtime loss to FBS La. Tech. A loss to FCS Top 5 Sam Houton in a game where they lost Qb Nathan Dick to a concussion for about a half. And a loss to Ark St, a team who is 7-2 and on top of the Sunbelt (for whatever that is worth) right now. A game which QB Nathan Dick had to sit out due to his concussion in the Sam Houston game.
If they beat Texas St., that would be a pretty good resume'.
