Standing Rock has voted NO 6 times, Great Plains Indian Chairman's voted 11-0 against the name. if UND and their followers are that dam stupid to blatently ignore the Native Americans that say no, then they deserve to goto the NAIA and just die.

The idea of just being The University of North Dakota is a good one. You know damn well that a majority of the fans will continue to wear Sioux gear to games, no matter what the ND legislature or NCAA say. In the fans' minds they will always be the Sioux, so why even try to attach a different name to the university? Leave it a blank slate and let the fans refer to them as they wish.

Seriously, just put "UND" on the helmets and jerseys and call it a day until all the legal crap gets sorted out. No reason why the politicians need to continue dragging this out while UND's athletics programs are the ones who are going to suffer the most. Seems highly suspect to me that this Carlson clown continues to support this law when it is clear that it's only going to hurt UND in the long run. Suspect to the point where it could almost be construed as an ulterior motive.

They already do! Only the hockey team will see a major jersey difference, football has UND on the helmet, basketball has just North Dakota on them so its just hockey that will have Sioux and the logo off, and I think the NCAA will work with UND on the no nickname thing during the cooling off period. If not I think UND and the media will be hearing from the NCAA.

The NCAA policy was created in 2005, the NCAA/UND legal settlement was in 2007, UND needed tribal support from two tribes in 2010, and UND was required to have a new nickname in place on Aug.15th 2011.

The state Senate voted 39-7 to approve the legislation, sending it to the House, which has been more hostile to dumping the nickname. Rep. RaeAnn Kelsch, R-Mandan, the chairwoman of the House Education Committee, said she believed the measure would win House approval.
