I may be going out on a limb here but I'm guessing ODUalum11 is a little scared about this game.

what made me so nervous about the Richmond game is that they had a great quarterback and premier reciever plus a couple talented others as well while we have a very weak secondary...I think I had a reason to be nervous. I also thought if ODU were to lose that game it would have significantly damaged ODU's playoff chances and put even more pressure on ODU to beat the Tribe this week. I'm not sure "scared" was the right word, I believed "concerned" is the more appropriate word.

While I believe WM is a much better team, I'm not as concerned about this game because I believe the premier match-up to watch will be ODU's rush defense vs. the Tribe's rush offense, in particular Grimes. ODU has shut down some pretty good runningbacks this season (Hernandez from UMass, Pierce from WM). But again that might open up the Tribe's pass offense like it did for Delaware earlier in the season.

Some rankings...

Scoring offense - WM 11th, ODU 2nd
Rush offense - WM 4th, ODU 5th
Scoring defense - WM 2nd, ODU 7th
Rush defense - WM 8th, ODU 3rd
Pass offense - WM 9th, ODU 2nd
Total offense - WM 9th, ODU 3rd
Pass defense - WM 2nd, ODU 11th
Total defense - WM 2nd, ODU 5th

Turnover margin - WM t-6th, ODU 1st
Penalties - WM 1st, ODU 8th

Individual Rankings...

WM's Grimes, 127.3 rushing yards/game - 2nd in CAA, 5th in kick return average (23.3), 1st in all purpose (243.2)
ODU's Heinicke - 4th in passing yards/game (249.5), 1st in efficiency (158.9), 2nd in total offense (283.7)
WM's Mangas - 10th in recieving yards/game (57.5)
ODU's Plisco - 1st in punting (46.3 average), WM's Kuhn - 4th in punting (40.6)

Defensive Individual Rankings....

WM LB Mines - tied 6th with 9.7 tackles/game, ODU's Wilkins (LB) - 9th with 8.7
WM DL Hyde - 1st in sacks with 6, ODU's Cameron - 9th with 4.

ODU's Camron and Wilkins tied for 2nd in TFL's with 10.5, WM's Hyde with 8

...should be another GREAT match-up, where it again appears with no surprise it being the CAA that both teams appear to be evenly balanced.

I'm not sure if its the way I write my posts but you seem to read things out of context, I'm still very much concerned about WM I just think Richmond last week had the match-ups to possibly pull of an upset. I also believe you didn't read my full post. IF ODU shuts down Grimes I like ODU's chances to win just like for the Richmond game, IF ODU limits Corp and his recievers I like ODU to win. IF ODU lets Grimes run all over the defense then it could be a long day.

Also to add to my last post, while I said this game doesn't concern me as much what I meant is that the Richmond game I believe was a "win and your in" scenario. IF ODU were to have lost that game, this game this Saturday against WM would have been the same scenario, "win and your in" but I believed WM would have been a much more difficult team to get a win against. Whereas now with 8 wins, this game is just for playoff positioning.

Let's hope Jimmye Laycock remembers to wear his MedAlert bracelet for this game. Would hate the see the legendary coach fall down and not be able to get up, particularly when he will surely want to complain about ODU's rough play to any reporter that will listen.

OKAY. I would just like to know how ODU drops one spot in the CS Poll, when we won our game against UR handily. Strange world we live in.
The big thing this week with W&M is that they will certainly be playing like it's their whole season now that they are out of the playoffs. But knowing Bobby Wilder, he has a plan :notworthy:

W&M isn't going to pass for 290 yards this game and the Tribe D will have a hard time holding ODU to under 200 again. If ODU can stack the box, it will be a long day for Grimes. Last game, Grimes had 127 rushing yards and 41 receiving yards. Big ? for W&M at the QB position but the 4 top receivers from last game are back.

3rd down killed ODU last time (3 of 16 for ODU and 6 of 14 for W&M). Tribe punter was the PK last time and he missed all 3 attempts. W&M has a good PK this year but settling for 3 won't get it done.

I expect ODU to have 5 sacks and I have to guess that one of them will lead to a fumble. I'm hoping Webb gets 2 picks again.

Webb will have to work a little harder for his picks. Heinicke is a better QB than DeMarco. So far he has had only one pick.

Heinecke has thrown 1 interception the entire year and it was a last gasp heave ho on the last play of the Towson game.

During normal game situations, he has been absolutely perfect. He takes what the defense gives him and then takes his shots deep when he sees the opportunity. He plays like a seasoned FBS QB, nevermind a true freshman playing in FCS. He is so much better than DeMarco it isn't even funny.

Should be interesting to see how or if W&M can attempt to slow down our offense, because they certainly won't be able to stop it all together.

DeMarco was one of the Top 10 worst QB's I've ever seen at the FCS/I-AA level... and I've seen some real stinkers at UD and elsewhere.

Heinecke appears to be a very special player. He could end up with all kinds of records when all is said and done, assuming he can stay healthy.

Come on....I mean, he wasn't a world-beater by any stretch, but one of the 10 worst you ever saw? I know he played an easy schedule, but plenty of FCS QBs played easy schedules and didn't put up his numbers.

:tothehand: What you meant to say was that he had one of the Top 10 worst QB performances you have ever seen (Although I have to wonder about that too). I think it was pretty clear that he could run better than Donnelly and had a stronger arm than Donnelly. He certainly had a bad day with accuracy and wasn't helped with all of the dropped passes. But you can't judge anyone, in any sport, on just one game.

Granted, I've only seen DeMarco play once live but I've seen him at least 4 other times on the tube. There's no disguising that the kid simply is not a D-I QB. He's not close to being as complete a QB as UD junior Tim Donnelly (and that's saying a whole heck of a lot). He wasn't this season and sure as shxt wasn't on 9/24/11.

Now, all of that said, Tom DeMarco plays with a lot of heart and is a clearly a leader; he just doesn't have much in the way of QB skills. No harm in that. He did what he was asked to do and gave ODU a lot of great moments in your first couple of seasons and he's cemented his place in Monarch history. I have a lot of respect for what DeMarco did but let's be honest.

He remains in my Top 10 list.

There is no question that DeMarco was not the most talented QB but he provided the leadership that a new team needed, which somehow got the job done just through the force of his personality. There is also no question that Heinike is the far more talented player whose records will far surpass those of DeMarco barring injury. But Monarch fans will always remember DeMarco and value his contributions highly. DeMarco was just what we needed. He was a guy who wanted very desperately to play and who was willing to throw his smallish body into the game with reckless abandon.

You're comparisons are a little skewed because W&M has had a much tougher OOC schedule. Better comparison would be to use the stats from CAA games only.
