No reason to have the vote around 10 PM. Should have held the vote hours earlier, or adjourned hours earlier and held the vote the next morning with the press conference to follow. They still were bafoons.

I have no idea when the meeting started or how long it lasted... If it was possible to start it earlier they should have, but in no way should a vote have been delayed to prevent a news conference from happening when it did... The issue needed to be settled not delayed because some people dislike the time of the news conference.

For me its more of a public safety issue than a "dislike for the timing of the press conference", it was still handled terribly

Doesnt matter what time of day it happened. As I said earlier, the school needed to notify police what was happening so they could be in place. But wether it was 9am, 3pm or 10pm... it would have been the same.

A possible reason given by legal experts for the late-night firing is because the JoePa statement "In hindsight, I could have done more" is really damning and could bite him in civil court and the BOT realized that.

They also probably were chapped by him saying he was retiring and to back off him. One of the worst times to try a power play on the university, even if that wasn't the intended effect.

Being a resident of the state of PA disgusts me right now.

Some of the public reaction to all this disgusts me.

Watching the students on TV last night disgusted me. It's all on camera - there better be some arrests today as a consequence for last night - flipping the TV truck & then vandalizing it further all in front of cameras - the State Police should take charge of that - because I have no faith in either the State College or PSU Police Dept's.

Some of the comments on this thread actually disgust me:

Griz 37 - you'd have us believe there were no "solid reasons" for JoePa's firing? What friggin planet do you live on? There are more than 20 cases (as of now) of child molestation that took place. That's at minimum 20 kids & 20 families who have had their lives DESTROYED. Obviously you don't have kids. Paterno friggin knew about it & he did the absolute minimum 9 years ago - 9 years ago and absolutely zero since. That's like watching the door for Sandusky as he had his way with these kids since 2002 or earlier because there is no way Joe didn't know what was going on in 1998 when this first came out.

BKDJMU - You wanted more than a phone call? Cmon, that's weak. What would you have suggested, telling Joe to get off his ass and to come sit in front of the BOT - tell him you just voted UNANIMOUSLY that he's gone and tell him to leave. Then you & the pathetic rioting students from last night would be just bitching about that. Go to his house? Who in this world has an employer come to your house to fire you?

Ugly times for Penn State right now, I'm glad I didn't go there. Hopefully McQueary isn't there on Saturday, hopefully nothing stuoid happens at Saturday's game and most of all - even though it can NEVER be taken back - hopefully the real victims in this case, which JoePa is NOT one of, but the kids, who are now anywhere from 10 to 27 years old that were molested by this monster get retribution for the heinous crimes that were committed against them. Crimes that were covered up and allowed to take place over more than a decade by the just plain wrong environment that was built at State College.

Why is everyone making such a big deal? A terrific program all about helping kids find older friends who want to help them and it gets shut down by a bunch of uptight puritans who just don't understand. The fun shower is something every program should have. Its all healthy and natural.

The only times we should be seeing press conferences carried on state and/or national TV is when there is a:
-state of emergency being declared by the governor or POTUS due to some natural disaster..
-something to do with national security or armed conflict
-some disaster that just happened like a plane crash, murder rampage, etc.
-someone famous was just killed within the previous few hrs.

This wasn't an event that necessatated a 10 PM press conference.

Again I'm AGREE that Joe PA had to go, probably before this Sat's last home game.

I totally agree Paterno should have turned Sandusky in after hearing about it from his assistant who saw Sandusky in the shower with an 11 yr old child.And no one knows the name of the child that was molested.I personally want to know how far does this go back and if Sandusky is a pedophile who in turn raped him as a child?
