Lets see here:

Liberty had VMI AT home, beat them by 6. SB went TO VMI, beat them by 28.
Liberty had Presbyterian at home, and needed OT to beat them 27-20. SB took Presby to the woodshed, 42-24.
Liberty gave up 27 to Coastal Carolina...SB tossed a shutout against them.
Liberty managed 35 against Gardner-Webb...SB put up 76 against them.

Need I go on?

It's not about "hating" Liberty. It's about being objective. Stony Brook, AT HOME, should be able to handle Liberty.
Good, I'm glad SB can put 40+ against PC, St Anselm (who?), VMI, CCU, CSU, GW. Great. Congrats. SB won't score 40 (in regulation) on Saturday. You can take that to the bank.

And comparing scores doesn't tell the whole story. The VMI and PC games for LU were kind of like who cares, get the W and move on.
The CCU game was 42-7 at halftime (42-0 with a minute left in the half), and the 2nd half we rotated a lot of 2nd/3rd teamers on D. And SB tossing a shutout against them was primarily due to the fact that the game was played in nor'easter. The Beach Chickens don't like that type of weather.
The GW game was 14-0 before GW ran an offensive play. It was 21-0 early in the 2nd quarter. The last 2 1/2 quarters we were on cruise control.

I heard they brought them but they chose not to wear them in the first half because they were trying to tough it out but some decided to wear them in the 2nd half but by that time it didn't make much of a difference.

What is this supposed to mean? The combined record of every team Liberty's beaten is 16-44. I'm not saying the game won't be close, or that Liberty isn't a good team. I don't understand why you guys are acting like Stony Brook's had such an easy road compared to Liberty.

I'm just saying, don't assume SB will score 40+ against Liberty. It has nothing to do with "SB having such an easy road compared to LU."

You guys played 5 common opponents. SBU looked better in almost every instance.

I'll take SBU at home, thank you very much.

A nice day is a plus for a pass happy team! AZ, after all of the comparisons are done, the game will still be played on the field. I think you are wrong, but I seem to be in a small minority right now. We are as close to healthy as we have been all year. We will have all of our offensive weapons healthy at the same time for the first time since the spring game. Mike Brown has a tendancy to play very well agains SBU (and pretty much everyone else). Our Run Defense WILL step up. Think what you want and so will I, but don't forget I said LU 42-28.

Im sure Liberty's resident scribe (and a poster on this fine discussion community) could further elaborate but here is what he said in his first article about this week's game:
1. I’ve said this before, and it bears repeating. Reading into results between common opponents is a dicey proposition. It’s easy to look at Stony Brook’s 76-28 win at Gardner-Webb and say, ‘well, Liberty only won 35-3, so Stony Brook is a much better team.’ Each game is played under its own set of circumstances. If you’ll recall, Liberty went up 14-0 at GWU before the Bulldogs could run an offensive play, and the Bulldogs never even threatened in the red zone until deep into the second half. The Flames were on cruise control for about two and a half quarters. Stony Brook ran all over GWU and racked up 500-plus yards of total offense, but the Seawolves benefited from six GWU turnovers to turn the game into a total rout...Piggybacking off the first point, Stony Brook dominated Coastal Carolina on the road last season, and Liberty lost at Coastal Carolina. So the natural inclination was to believe SBU would beat Liberty in Lynchburg. The Flames won 54-28. Again, read into common results at your own peril.

And yet isn't that EXACTLY what ya'll are doing when you give your logic about why Liberty will win? You're using season stats, comparative numbers, etc., etc. All it really does is give one an educated guess, as opposed to just pulling things out of your ass.

Simply responding in a common language my friend. Ive said often on FlameFans (and reiterate here) the point our scribe is making, and that is that you really dont learn anything by comparing scores because the games were not played under identical circumstances.

I get that. But one time is a dot, twice is a line, and three times is a trend. You CAN learn something from trends....and I've learned that SBU is probably a better team than Liberty. Especially at home.

The great part is we get to find out on Saturday. I am so pumped for this game and to be up there. Go Flames! Take care of business and prove the doubters wrong. AZ will still hate us, but that's OK.

I am hopeful that SB will get the job done. Its been doing it all season long against Conference rivals. A team from the northeast gets the auto bid of the Big South. It already sounds great...

Hate might be a strong word. I think you and many others Look down your noses at the Big South and Liberty Specifically. It's like the BCS the power teams can't stand the smaller up and coming teams and conferences. And yea someone calling LU Libertard might be close to hate.

a) I would be careful using the phrase "up and coming" when referencing the Big South. :coffee:
2) I look down my nose at ANYTHING east of the Mississippi. :tothehand:
iii) The fact that I cared enough to carry this thread for as long as I have should speak volumes to you regarding my love for Libertard. :kisswink:
