Because true gopher sports fans laugh at und and hockey, wisconsin is their rivals, michigan. give it up.
Plus you resurrect a thread from 3 months ago on the 1st day of FCS playoffs. HAHA. EPIC FAIL TROLL
and you're comparing beating BCS teams on the road vs a D2 win, buy a clue and go smoke some arsenic with darrel.

Re: The UND-NDSU Rivalry
The plain and simple fact of the matter is this- these teams have not played in a long time. Therefore, it is not a rivalry. When the two opposing sides are not in direct conflict for a long time, there is no opportunity for competition and this lack of any true competitiveness kills what chance there was for fans of either side to call this a "rivalry" in the purest sense of the term.
Additionally, UND simply cannot claim to be on par with NDSU football as a FCS team right now. You can stick your head in the sand all you want, but you can't hide from the truth:
When one team is splitting conference titles of mediocre-at-best conferences and barely keeping above .500 as a FCS program while the other team has spent most of its brief FCS existence in the Top 25 and won an AQ conference title, there is no fair comparison. To suggest otherwise is simply nonsensical and unrealistic.

As this is a football thread, my comments were directed towards the football rivalry, which is dead. (at least to me) If we take the dictionary's definition of "Competition for the same objective or for superiority in the same field" as the meaning of a rivalry, then NDSU-UND is a dead football rivalry. The two teams no longer compete directly with each other.Darell1976 wrote:#1 Football is the only sport these teams have not played in a long time. Not dead just in a coma, both UND and NDSU are fighting it out on the recruiting trail. UND picking up players recruited by NDSU and vice versa. Talks about playing each other are just about complete. As UND's AD Brian Faison said they will play each other but not every year. If the "football" rivalry is so dead why did Fargo Forum's Jeff Kolpack write an article about UND getting votes in the polls, and NDSU fans slamming UND about who they play, and where they rank. Trust me this rivalry is still alive.rkwittem wrote:As this is a football thread, my comments were directed towards the football rivalry, which is dead. If it were alive, they'd be playing every year. I.E. Duke-UNC or Ohio State-Michigan or Alabama-Auburn. NDSU-UND has shifted into OU-Nebraska territory now, where both teams were big rivals for a long time, but won't meet again for a long time on the gridiron.

becuase both of those things are LAUGHABLE
you dont compete with shit on recruits, who would want to goto und over ndsu? 19,000 fans vs 7200 fans.
dont say mollberg, he didnt want to compete and COULDNT beat out the 4 QBs ndsu has lined up when he cant even beat PERHAM minn in a football game, give me a break.
votes in a poll for a 5-3 team with wins over drake, 0-11 unc and lost to a 1-10 idaho proves how stupid that is.
its NOT a rivalry, we have done more in the last 7 years without them then the past 100 years with them

Re: The UND-NDSU Rivalry
Darell is absolutely right on this and you would have to be half brain dead to think that the NDSU-UND rivalry is dead. Get over your pride fellas. The first game back in this rivalry would fill a 30k seat stadium and everyone knows it. It IS a big deal to the state, something some of you may have forgotten. I truly believe that UND needs to have this game back to get some life back into their program. No trash talk intended, but 7k at UND when you are D1 now? that's very sad for the following you have. It should be a lot closer to the 18k on average that NDSU draws. The rivalry renewal would help spark that. The game would not help NDSU as much as it would UND, that's why I'm on the fence on the issue. I want to play UND just for rivalries sake, but there are no advantages for my school. I guess we will see how it plays out. Go Bison!Darell1976 wrote:Not dead just in a coma, both UND and NDSU are fighting it out on the recruiting trail. Just shut up and play each other already! I can't believe the citizenry of that state hasn't stormed the offices of the AD's of both teams to get this game back on. I've always known North Dakotans to be really nice people-perhaps in this case they're too nice. Get it done!
Rivals from different conferences play all the time. Sac State and UC Davis kept it going even when they were in different divisions.
And don't start up with all the excuses as to why you're not playing-I've know what they are. I don't care. The rest of the football playing world doesn't care. Get some people in both schools to get this done-or kick their ass out and get some new people who aren't bogged down by all the pettiness to get it done. And play it annually. This every-other year idea is complete B.S.

Re: The UND-NDSU Rivalry
NDSU doesn't want to give up a home game by playing at UND every other year. Now with the Big Sky more and more Sioux fans don't mind not playing NDSU every year. I would rather they play all the Dakota teams..once per year. 2013 vs SDSU (already scheduled), 2014 at NDSU, 2015 at USD. Then rotate..2016 at SDSU, 2017 vs NDSU, 2018 vs USD.Strommer10 wrote:I wish it were that easy. Re: The UND-NDSU Rivalry
The Sioux fans want to hang on to everything, the Nickel, the Nickename, the Rivalry. Time to let go and get on with the new world of UND in the Big Sky, a great conference with possible great rivalries with the Montana schools or who ever. The schools will play again, but they haven't for 8 years and that's a huge void, the longest since the Gil Dobie coached NDSU team made UND run scared for several years. It's just not the same anymore, and it won't be the same.

UND has only won their conference in Volleyball, Men's Basketball, and shared the title in football...oh did I forget to mention get into the Big Sky. Which reminds me does NDSU still send Christmas gifts to SDSU to show their appreciation for getting them into the MVFC/Summit League.
