Same here. What would be the odds that should Georgia lose the SECCG to LSU that South Carolina will go to a "higher tier" bowl game than the Dawgs?
It doesn't really matter.....Arkansas/LSU/Alabama have first dibs on the BCS in the event that Georgia loses in the SECCG. Unless of course you would consider the Capital one bowl over the outback bowl or something like that

There are two things you need to keep in mind with the BSU win over UGA.

1) The SEC east is horrendous this year. UGA also got a lucky draw by not having to play LSU or Alabama in the regular season.

2) UGA is better than they were when they played South Carolina and Boise State. That's because UGA's OC is now allowing Aaron Murray to do more throwing the ball.

I honestly think UGA would crush Boise if they played again. But Boise will certainly be out of the discussion after LSU makes quick work of UGA, so it doesn't really matter.

They also didn't play Arkansas. I think that, as bad as Arkansas got whacked by LSU and Alabama. the Hogs are better than anybody Georgia played during their SEC schedule.

I don't know about them killing Boise State if they played now, though. If they played like they did against Kentucky they sure wouldn't.

I was at that game... ugly... and we had Kentucky super fan sitting next to us, over clapping at every mediocre play those dingleberries made. :ohno:

I don't think anyone here is denying that UGA had an optimal schedule fall in their laps this year (and won't be much more difficult next year either, IMO).

As for Boise, USC or LSU, it all depends on what Georgia team shows up that weekend. If the team that played top 25 Auburn/GT shows up that weekend, UGA could stand up against most teams. My personal feeling, UGA will get worked by LSU (Which is why I will be sitting in a bar in Athens instead of ATL next Saturday).

UGA offense is definitely hitting it's stride now... it's not so vanilla and one dimensional as it was in the years past... Bobo seems to have gotten his shit together. Though, when UGA loses it's 3 Sr. O.Lineman next year, we'll see how they recoup.

... and Superhornet. Yes, BSU had a cupcake schedule. 1-2 games against decent teams doesn't put you in the NC game when the rest of your games were against teams of the JMU/Sac St caliber. Tell Boise to get in a decent division and schedule games against decent opponents. Playing ONE game a year against ONE decent opponent won't ever cut it IMO (Unless there is a playoff, in that case I will give Montana/EWU/Boise credit for beating a team from the CAA/SEC after playing a "fluff" schedule all year). Also, noticed you chickened out and ignored that thread that you said "libs" would ignore. You face painting coward. I went ahead and bumped it for you. :kisswink:

While I think Georgia had great efforts in those games I don't think either Auburn or Georgia Tech are top 25 caliber teams. I don't think either will end up in the final top 25.

I realize how it goes. Georgia beating them is part of that. But, to me, when one talks about beating top 25 teams, I think one needs to wait and see who ends up in the final top 25.

Like the 1995/1996 Nebraska team beat 4 teams that FINISHED in the top 10 by 38, 23, 24, and 38 points. Now THAT'S impressive. And it really says something. But talking about where some team was ranked when you played them is virtuallyl meaningless.

Getting off track here - but that 1995/1996 Nebraska team had one of the best seasons I've even seen a college football team have. I don't think they had a single game all year where the opposition had the ball in the second half with a chance to tie or go ahead. Usually an undeafeated team will have at least 1 close call, but that Nebraska team rolled everyone.

Getting back on track - I agree regarding rankings. It's where the team ends up ranked that matters.

86, WHY did you have to bring up '95 Nebraska? I'm STILL trying to live down the 70-21 trashing they gave UOP. (Not to mention the 49-7 drubbing they gave UOP in '94 while I was still in the Navy.

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

I'm the one that brought them up. Honestly, I did because that is the most dominant college football team of my football watching lifetime. Whenever someone starts talking about some team being the best college football team of all time, that's the team I use as my standard for comparison. And, so far, no team has measured up.

I realize that athletes get better over time so maybe if yuo put the current LSU or Alabama team in a time machine and sent them back they might beat that Nebraska team. But in terms of how good a team was relative to its time, there's no comparison.

And that team was so good that I'm not sure this year's LSU or Alabama teams would beat them even though 16 years have elapsed. In fact I'm not sure that 95 Nebraska team wouldn't blow this year's LSU or Alabama team out.

Again I agree. Penn St also went undefeated that year, I used to argue with Penn St fans about the final rankings. Nebraska was more dominant and deserved the number 1 ranking.

Oh yeah. It's like you said: It's the only team I know of in the modern era such that nobody ever even threatened to beat them. Even when teams have great seasons, such as Miami in 2001/2002, they have at least one game in which there's a chance in the 4th quarter that they could lose. That Miami team was loaded but Boston College was driving deep late in the 4th quarter with a chance to take the lead before there was a turnover and Miami ran it all the way back for a score. And they just got by Virginia Tech by 2 points.

Nothing like that happened with that Nebraska team. Their smallest margin of victory was 14 points and that game was never in doubt. Other than that their smallest margin was 23 points and that was over a Colorado team that finished in the top 5. They won 9 of their 12 games by 37 or more points. And that Florida team they smoked by 38 was a very good team. It had waltzed through the SEC; winning its SEC games by an average of 45-17. It's closest win was by 11 and it beat Arkansas 34-3 in the SEC championship game.

Anyway, there may be one but I have not been able to find another I-A/FBS team going back to at least 1970 that went through an undefeated season like that without being challenged even once. Like you said they just blew through everybody they played. They were at a totally different level than the rest of college football that year.
