Why UNI fans, with UNI's playoff track record, do anything other than hide under a rock at playoff time and just pray that UNI doesn't do something truly inimaginably embarassing, say, like lose to a Patriot League team, at home, especially a Patriot League team that gets blown out the following weekend, is beyond me. With all their playoff agony and lack of a title, you'd think they would just lay low and hope no one notices however they crash and burn in the playoffs, which is ultimately coming.AZGrizFan wrote:Sansy a fan of the team that lost to **** LEHIGH last year. Hey guys did you hear how many titles NDSU won 5 years ago in DII?
Last year well was embarrassing, but it is just that LAST YEAR!
BTW I heard that Sacramento State is going to field stomp the playoffs this year to.
Gannonfan-I do hope that we don't do anything stupid this year and every year, and our track record isn't great but why should we stay low, we have consistent good teams just can't get over the hump, and I don't pretend to know what it is that is keeping us from getting there, I just support my alma mater like alot of folks on here.

Don't worry - we're no more than two weeks before we're in the same boat. Someone else other than UD will have to dismiss UNI from the playoffs this year. It's fun to spread that task around.panther-state wrote:Who is Delaware playing this week? Oh oops....

This thread is about the Ohio Valley Conference. Mark Farley may have a frown as wide as the Ohio Valley, but the two are not synonymous.
Back to the discussion of what we can do to alleviate the ineptitude of the OVC and MEOW.

Can't speak for the OVC, but for the MEOW our problems are a lack of financial, coaching and the fact that our footprint is shared with the CAA and the SoCon. I been saying it for years...we need to have FULLY STAFFED coaching staffs instead of having some pulling double duty. Which is why our line play is TERRIBLE across the board and we have discipline issues offensively. Too many times we are relying on an individual's raw talent instead of putting them in a position to succeed on (nearly) every down and play, that falls on coaching. NSU had multiple offensive penalties in their game that were self inflicted and stalled out plenty of drives. That falls on coaching. Zero halftime adjustments...THAT FALLS ON COACHING. Our coaches do not properly perpare our squads to be successful in a playoff format and have not been for years now.State Line Liquors wrote:This thread is about the Ohio Valley Conference. Re: Re: Ohio Valley Conference football
And how do you think any of that changes? I don't see a financial windfall coming to the MEAC that will then be invested into the football programs to make the changes you point out need to happen. If anything, the MEAC is just falling farther and farther behind the CAA and the SoCon as those conferences pump money into their programs and facilities. Where Hampton played some close games 5-7 years ago in the playoffs, the MEAC has just been thumped repeatedly these past few years. The trend is going the wrong way for the MEAC and I don't see what turns it around.DSUrocks07 wrote:Can't speak for the OVC, but for the MEOW our problems are a lack of financial, coaching and the fact that our footprint is shared with the CAA and the SoCon. Our coaches are still the problem, how we choose to address it individually is going to be important...or we get matched up with a Big South or an OVC squad in the first round for a chance to break the snide.

Re: Ohio Valley Conference football
what we need is one of our presidents come of and explicitly state his/her commitment to a strong athletic department as the face of the university. Generate excitement amongst the Alumni and bring in an AD who has a vision of success and who can bring in a head coach who shares that vision of success...no more re-tread HBCU coaches who bounce from job to job with a career .500 record like what DSU did
The potential is there. The classics are a windfall opportunity. The SWAC and MEAC are near the top of the most profitable conferences on a year in, year out basis. But we constantly drop the ball with out "build it and they will come" mentality. If I had a degree in business management, I could walk right into the DSU prez office, and tell him that if he gave me five years I would turn their entire athletic department around and make it something to be proud of. Vision.

What is the deal with Tennessee St and its run-first mentality they haven't been a power in the OVC since '00 when they were #1 in the 1-aa playoffs with a undefeated record and they did it with a pass happy mentality from ex-coach LC Coles.

Just remember that the program with more national titles than any other won all of those national titles with a run first, run second, run almost always philosophy. And the program with the second most national championships also won those championships with a run first offense. Heck, I think that also applies to the team with the third most national championships.dal4018 wrote:What is the deal with Tennessee St and its run-first mentality they haven't been a power in the OVC since '00 when they were #1 in the 1-aa playoffs with a undefeated record and they did it with a pass happy mentality from ex-coach LC Coles.
Well, I believe that I must tell the truth

But if I told the truth and nothing but the truth

Well they haven't done anything since applying this new run-oriented philosophy as stated before if it aint broke don't fix it.And when it comes to run defense the Tigers aren't exactly world beaters especially when your ranked 92nd IN THE COUNTRY ALLOWING 179.3 yds per contest !!!!!!!!!!!!And not every team that won a 1-AA title won it on the ground plenty have won threw the friendly skies ask Delaware that is how somebody named Joe Flacco introduced himself to the NFL.Montana won threw the air as wellJohnStOnge wrote:Just remember that the program with more national titles than any other won all of those national titles with a run first, run second, run almost always philosophy. And the program with the second most national championships also won those championships with a run first offense.
