RNC Chairman Steele: Gay Civil Unions NEVER

When Asked Whether He Would ‘Consider’ Gay Civil Unions, Steele Replies, ‘What Are You, Crazy?’
When Asked Whether He Would ‘Consider’ Gay Civil Unions, Steele Replies, ‘What Are You, Crazy?’
Last night, actor Sean Penn and screenwriter Dustin Lance Black both won Oscars for their work on “Milk,” which told the story of Harvey Milk, the first openly gay elected official. Today, the right wing expressed its disgust that the movie received such acclamation. On his radio show, Mike Gallagher slammed Penn for ignoring “the majority of Americans” by supporting gay marriage rights, saying it went against America’s “fundamental values.”

Gallagher asked guest Michael Steele, chairman of the Republican Party, if he thought the party “ought to consider” something like civil unions. Steele replied immediately, “No, no, no,” adding, “What are you, crazy?” He made it clear that the party would not budge on gay rights:

GALLAGHER: Is this a time when Republicans ought to consider some sort of alternative to redefining marriage and maybe in the road, down the road to civil unions. Do you favor civil unions?

STEELE: No, no no. What would we do that for? What are you, crazy? No. Why would we backslide on a core, founding value of this country? I mean this isn’t something that you just kind of like, “Oh well, today I feel, you know, loosey-goosey on marriage.” […]

GALLAGHER: So no room even for a conversation about civil unions in your mind?

STEELE: What’s the difference?

Machismo is a prominently exhibited or excessive masculinity. As an attitude, machismo ranges from a personal sense of virility to a more extreme male chauvinism. In many cultures, machismo is acceptable and even expected.

Black men, with some exception are complete fukcs. They hate women and their children and gays and are proud of it.
"Sarah Palin absolutely blew AWAY the audience tonight. If there was any doubt as to whether she was savvy enough, tough enough or smart enough to carry the mantle of Vice President, she put those fears to rest tonight. She took on Barack Obama DIRECTLY on every issue and exposed... She did it with warmth and humor, and came across as the every-person....it's becoming mroe and more clear that she was a genius pick for McCain."

Very true. But you would think a person that has achieved his status and has probably overcome some discrimination in his life might be a little more enlightened.

On the bright side, this continued belief system just marginalizes the Republican party that much more and will hopefully open the door to a party that is fiscally conservative yet, while not openly endorsing all things progressive, doesn't believe in legislating or restricting those same ideas....Republican Party is dying a slow death....

White men are fukced too. They just happen to be better providers for their children and don't generally treat women like shit.

White men don't have an exuse either. Black men have been emasculated for hundreds of years. Machismo is a natural, but wrong reaction to their plight. They are dragging down their culture with them.

This is why I am no longer a Republican. I used to be against it, but as I have grown I have come to realize that if two dudes or two chicks want to be together, hell why not? I'm still rather conservative on some issues, but I have become more moderate on some.

That's actually a very "conservative" attitude....live and let live.....it's the "Conservatives" that have hijacked that description to mean regulation of lifestyle....welcome back to our side....

When I first gave the issue thought I asked myself, "How would I going to explain to my wife's best friend, who was Maid of Honor in my wedding and is a dear friend of mine as well, how I could oppose dower rights for her and her life partner of 27 years when everything they own is joint and they desire to spend the rest of their lives and even be buried together?"

It wouldn't be the right thing to do and neither is Steele's stance. This may very well come back to bite him in the ass.

When most people put a personal connection to it, they come to the conclusion that you did.

Most gay people I've discussed the issue agree that the government shouldn't be involved in anyone's marriage. It's big government keeping gays from marrying...Steele is just another leftist "conservative."
